Yesterday afternoon I drove my brother to Heathrow airport so he could fly to spend a week with my other brother and family in Iceland, as you can imagine I had very green eyes!!!!
The trip is a distance of just over 70 miles, we made the journey up in about an hour and 10 minutes which was pretty good, even better it was pretty uneventful too if you discount the times I had to shout over my shoulder as two "naughty" boys descended into the usual "I'm bored" sibling rivalry.........sigh .........
We parked up, got my brother booked on the flight and checked in his luggage before we decided to have a coffee, well I had a coffee I was in need of a healthy shot of caffeine, Thomas and Marc had fizzy, Daniel after a disagreement that this time fizzy would NOT make him silly, gave in and had a fruit juice
Soon after we finished our drinks we said our goodbyes, although Daniel went to the serving cart and started bundling things in his pockets
I called him over and got him to empty his pockets.........he had about half a dozen packets of sugar sachets
NO He did NOT need that !!!! Yes we were having a ritalin free day!!!!!! Which was a typical day of watching him like a hawk LOL After I dutifully explained the perils of him pouring sugar down his mouth......................
We said Goodbye and waved by brother through the departures.......
Leaving Heathrow gave us no real problems although I did spend at least 15 minutes politely.......through calm and deep breaths...... explaining to Daniel that the crackle of the radio was likely to do with the interference around the airport, so would he please wait until we are clear before I tried the radio again .........
The trip back was as straight forward as the trip up, just before the turn off to our home, I told the boys I was shattered, my eyes were hurting so for a treat we would go home through the town instead of bypassing the town and buy some fish and chips.............Great plan...........Bad timing...........
Within 10 metres of passing the home turn off but being that it was a busy dual carriageway, nowhere to turn around, I I saw the sight every driver hates............All the way as far as you could see.............traffic at a standstill, with no option but to sit it out........I figured it was only a mile so not really a problem.........!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
An hour and a half later we were still in the same queue, if the traffic moved, it was literally one car length at a time!!!!!!
I had completely forgotten it was the Summer Solstice at Stonehenge!!!!!
Finally arriving at the chip shop, we placed our order to be told, we would have to wait whilst they cooked it!!!!!! Argh, they had run out after non stop Solstice visitors!!!!!!
If I wasn't so hungry and so tired it was now 9.15pm and we hadn't eaten since lunch time I would have just gone home but no we waited, have to say the chips were definitely worth the wait
But the trip itself, after covering 70+ miles in an hour and 10 minutes, both ways..........
To walk in my front door 2 hours after passing the turn off which is 2 minutes from my home.........
I WAS NOT AMUSED!!!!!!!!!!!
