Howdy

by MarglrComment Published at 04:3704:3742 comments42 comments55 Visits55 VisitsReport

Here's a weather report from Canada!  We got our first snow last night.  Not much, just a white fuzzy covering on everything.  I know it will go as the sun rises and hits it but it looks so pretty!   I hear parts of Australia are getting tons of rain!  Hope every one is looking forward to their weekend!

Re: Howdy

At the risk of sounding like an idiot.... does snow feel soft when there is a lot of it? I always imagined that snow would feel fluffy but when I went to Victoria to see snow for the first time in Aussie land it was hard as a rock!!!

Re: Howdy

You could never be an idiot Sweety!  LOL  you should see some of the questions I have asked heeeheee! But yet I do keep asking!

Snow, soft as a whisper when it is falling, or driven by high winds with a sting on the skin!  Fluffy and soft when the humidity is low but if it is high then you get "packing" snow!  Excellent for snowballs and building forts!!  Love doing both. As it stays on the ground and has the sun hit it then freezes again you can get hard pack which means it has compressed and can be like stone through the winter. Great base for skiing if you get fresh fall on top.  I love winter!!!  Taking about snow and out playing in it is soooo exciting!! Love snow  and  when winter at the cottage allows you can lake walk, travel on the frozen lakes to places that you can't reach.   But usually here anyway, the top layers are soft, loads of fun to flop in and make snow angels!

oooohhh boy! Coping with the heat!  Yuck, really dislike oppressive sticky heat!  You need a large frig to get out of that heat!  Hope it gets more reasonable soon.

I should parcel Soph up and post her to you - she's dying to get some more snow! But she wants to build a snowman, so can you arrange for a bit more by the time she arrives ?

but Emma might build another of THOSE snowmen, and how would your DH cope ?

Enjoy your sunshine! Sure you wont have another green Christmas! My aunt was most disgruntled to get her first green Christmas in Canada a year or two back as she had just unwrapped some new snowshoes. Me, I've only ever had ONE white Christmas - and I was 10 months old so there are only photos to prove I was there!

You all will think this is funny. I"m in the US near the East coast in Virginia. If we get 1 inch of snow, all he!!! breaks loose. Noone knows how to drive in it and schools shut down

Re: Howdy

Haaahaaa!!!  Well that must be interesting!  We do have snow days were travel is too much but the schools are always open and the kiddies expected to get there, just the buses don't run!  It takes a huge amount of snowfall, which all the kiddies wait for each year or a large amount of freezing rain, really don't care for that stuff!

Re: Howdy

Margir, I'm not sure i will ever get over how vast our beautiful country is, or how spoiled you guys out east are... lol! nah, i'm just kidding- your first snow is now, we've been below zero and dealing ith white stuff since about thanksgiving. Actually, it's supposed to get up to +8 today... if the snow melts and i'm feeling up to it, i may actually do so yard work... but then it will be muddy... hmmm... it might jsut get left till spring.

I do tend to think we get the hard end of weather up here in Northern saskatchewan, but it really isn't that bad, i know. We don't get the humidity you guys do, so our temperatures are much easier to cope with than it would be if you guys went down to the temperatures we get.  And we're glad we don't normally get 2-4 feet of snow at time, like they do in the maritimes. i forget where you said you are, but i'm thinking Ontario somewhere... forgive me if i'm wrong...

I feel like i've had attitude here, and i want to appologise up front. I've just gotten back to work after intense pain for 3-4 days. Gall stone attacks. I'll be blogging on it later. I'm feeling good, but then to hear this attitude coming out of me... sorry guys.

btw, i like this group- it is very cheerful. sorry to rain on it! Iamschild.

Re: Howdy

Oh iamschild, I am so sorry to hear you have been ill! Those gall stones are suppose to be painful, I hope it settles out for you.

My dear daughter has moved to Alberta( Neighbour, eh? ) and has reported snow, hail, and ice storms!  Then you look and see how far north she is and we are further south than some of the states in the U.S. of A.!  I am against the lake in Ontario, part of the Golden Horseshoe.  So we are moderated by the Great Lakes but also get the snow effect sometimes.

And your attitude is fine, think we Canadians like to tease each other about the weather.  Well that's what we usually talk about!  Our weekend is to be mild, hope I get out to enjoy it before the minus 30's come!!!  I know, you get far worse than that!

Yah, ours has gone too Pauline.  I think I am starting to get a wee excited about winter coming, easier to do that after you get all battened down for winter and I am still working on that!

Re: Howdy

We are suppose to be getting our first snow over the next 24 hours...anywhere from 5-30 cms....depends on the way the wind blows.  Its starting to look pretty gray out there now...

If we have snow this time of year here we can bet there will be rain in the not too distant future...

Hope everyone has a great week-end!

Re: Howdy

We have had the craziest black skies, rain, hail and snow, then 10 minutes later, sun and nice!!! The kiddies will be so excited , wonder what B will think of it all!  How are you feeling dear Lady?  Hope a lot better and you got the mild type!

Re: Howdy

We didn't get much snow here at all, mostly slush we are left with and let's not forget the high winds...sounded like a good winter storm but it wasn't...Yay!

B. isn't too interested in being outside when its windy, if he is anything like his sister though, he will love the snow...

This evening I am feeling a little better...best I have felt since Sunday past...unfortunately I didn't get the mild type...

Our trip to the maritimes is still a go though, as long as I am no longer contagious that is....

I was talking to my sister (the one in Toronto) and she was telling me about the strange day there...

Re: Howdy

It was indeed strange!  The clouds were so very black! I am glad you are on the mend.  This flu seems very tough and the losses very heart breaking so I am so thankful you are getting better.   I am sure you can wait for your first large snow in!!!  LOL!!  But the first snow still is rather exciting!!

My sister will be pleased to hear this is snow in Canada.  She was hoping to see some before coming home for Christmas.  I hope there is plenty more in the next few weeks so she can get the pics she wants.

Yes, rain is definitely around.  So much more is needed though as it is set to be a real scorcher of a summer

Your Sis is here?  Oh!!  Where abouts?  Hope she experienced some snow, the stuff is so neat!!!   I hope you get some good rains without floods and crazy stuff going on.  The land needs a good soak to make it through your summer.

Re: Howdy

Humph!

We've been under snow for almost a month now! Please Arna, don't wish more snow on all of us! Where is she going to? If it was cheaper, I'd load a semi full and send it to where ever she is! we don't have much right now, but by the end of the month, we'll be under 3-4 feet.... and now that i have a house of my own, i have to shovel... oooh, and i'm having surgery soon- that's not going to be fun!

Oh, when is your surgery?  We will have to send good vibes. I do hope that ends all your pain, so not good to deal with. And no shoveling for you after surgery... we will have to keep an eye on you.
