Hello

by CharComment Published at 19:4919:492 comments2 comments209 Visits209 VisitsReport

I just joined and want to first say Hello to everyone here .

I have a 15yr. old son and he likes to eat his boogers and he even does it at the dinner table and thinks that no one is watching him.  He also picks his scabs and toe jam and does the same thing. ( the last cpl. of things not at the dinner table thank god!).

I have talked to hom and so has my husband about his booger eating habit.

The more we mention it, the more he seems to do it.

He is not only embarassing me but, his self also.

He has Tourettes Syndrome and ADD and OCD.

How can I make him stop these things ?

What makes him want to do it?

High Alert in the Aviation Sector (U.S.)

by IzzyComment Published at 14:2714:272 comments2 comments220 Visits220 VisitsReport
The Homeland Security has raised the level of alert  and there are current restrictions put on both domestic and international flights. If you are travelling via plane, any liquids (drinks) and gels (shampoo, lotion, etc) are not currently allowed in carry-ons. Adults travelling with young children are allowed water/juice and milk, but I heard that airport security is being strict on those as well. Check ahead if you're travelling!

Shopping cart & Escalator safety

by IzzyComment Published at 07:4107:411 comments1 comments131 Visits131 VisitsReport

Here is an article with some stats & facts: http://today.reuters.com/news/ArticleNews.aspx?type=healthNews&storyID=2006-08-07T131317Z_01_N02278625_RTRUKOC_0_US-CARTS.xml

I've never thought of the escalator as being dangerous before, but I will definitely have to do some safety precautions. The article suggests taking baby off of the stroller when using the escalator.

body worlds 3

by lindterbeanComment Published at 09:0309:035 comments5 comments192 Visits192 VisitsReport
Saw a wonderful museum exibit this weekend called Body Worlds 3. If anyone has any interest in medicine or physionomy I thoroughly reccommend it. Other than the show-stopping main attractions (which admittedly were a little morbid) the cased displays were fantastic. Nothing makes an impact like seeing an actual smokers lung next to a healthy one right in front of you. Also various liver and kidney diseases, cancers, emphyzema and such. Not for the squeamish though, and I wouldn't take most school aged kids. Most of the very young kids there were interested, but many medium sized kids thought it was gross. We gave ours the option to come or not.

do any of you know how to go about finding home day care? I keep hearing about it and it sounds like anice option to professional day-care, but I don't know how much it usually costs or how to find people who take children into their homes.

national sex-offender registery

This is a great resource. Go to the link, then go to your state. Most states have a search by location so you can type in your address and pull up the registered sex offenders in that area including their offenses, names, addresses and photo. We check this out every time a single girl friend or friend with kids starts looking at a new house or apartment.

Programs located throughout the US. Go to the program locator for more specifics. Teaches women and kids to replace the fear, confusion and panic of dangerous situations with confidence, personal safety and self-esteem. How to recognize, avoid and escape a bad situation.

The four-day class shows women and kids how to protect themselves. It also prepares the mind for what the body might have to do to survive. It begins with your voice. By the last day, class participants undergo simulations with attackers.R.A.D. instructors Jim and Sandra Baylor said the class will save lives."They will learn how to take the opportunity away before it even happens and that is what saves them."

Also available through many universities and police departments.

LEGO SYSTEMS ASKS KIDS ACROSS AMERICA TO SEND THEIR LEGO® BRICKS TO NEW ORLEANS SCHOOLS

Dig into your toy chests and pull out your LEGO bricks to help children in New Orleans imagine and rebuild for the future! LEGO Systems has issued a nationwide call to children and parents in towns across America to share their LEGO bricks with the children of New Orleans. We will collect the LEGO bricks and make a LEGO brick for LEGO brick matching donation to New Orleans schools. Some of the LEGO bricks will be used to construct a model of New Orleans in the future, as envisioned by New Orleans children, that will be donated to the city as a public work of art.
