Taking a Moment to be Grateful

Comment Published at 13:5213:522 comments2 comments86 Visits86 VisitsReport

At the beginning of 2006, I decided my theme for the year would be gratefulness.

Ten months later, I have a small box full of scraps of paper where I've scribbled what I am thankful for. I confess, I haven't done this every day. Sometimes a week or more went by before I took time to write down what I was grateful for.

That said, I decided that Fridays will be my "Grateful Days" on this blog.

Today I am grateful for:

My daughter's delight in simple things like ice cream cones and knock-knock jokes

Homemade chocolate chip cookies

The comfortableness of old friends and the pleasure of new friends

Warm, sunshiny weather before tomorrow's predicted snow storm

A stay-at-home Friday night where I can relax and do nothing

Old movies like The Cat from Outerspace or The Horse in the Gray Flannel Suit--corny but oh, so harmless!

May your day be anchored in gratefulness.

Sounds like a great Idea...
I should do this, but along the lines of Izzy's idea and do it about the kids.. When they upset me, pull out a bit of paper and let it remind me why I love them so much.... :)  Mind you they don't upset me that much. Just at 2am in the morning when Francis wants to play instead of sleep... And with Camille when I try to explain that her blue baseball cap with does not match her pretty red dress, and sneakers do match as well... SHe was totally convinced they matched so I took a photo to show her down the track. I wonder if I can find it....

Taking a Moment to be Grateful

This is such a great idea to take stock of our life and see that we really have more than we need and be thankful for them...especially those that aren't materials.

I used to do something similar a few years ago before my son was born. I made my husband and I write on tiny pieces of paper funny moments during our marriage and then put them in a small bowl. Some days when we really need to a laugh and need to be reminded how much we appreciate each other, we pull one paper out and have a laugh and reminisce about happy happy times.

I really need to do this again now that we have a son. Thanks for a great post!
