What is with people giving their kids ghetto names?

I was reading something on Yahoo Answers about why do people give their kids ghetto names. The author was actually African American, and she was wondering why parents keep giving their children these names. Some of the weird and wonderful names include Anfernee and Tanique (a cross between Tesha and Monique apparently). Also, some people want to mix all their names into one single first name. So for example, if Minti's lovely owners, Rachel and Clay Cook were to go all ghetto on a future kids name, their kid's name could be Rachay Cook or Clachel Cook.

I guess some people just like naming their kids with names that sound like names from their roots, or some people (not necessarily African American) just like these names cos it sounds pretty.

This reminded me of the NZ couple who wanted to name their child 4Real and Superman. There was also a couple in China who wanted to name their child @ to honour technology and the internet. Yes, the symbol @. I'm guessing that's pronounced "at". I guess these people are tech nerds or something.

But seriously, when people name their children with these weird and wonderful names, do they ever take consideration of their child such as their child being taunted at school for having weird names like 4Real, @, or Superman?

I was talking to a friend last night (yes, the infamous dr friend of mine I have mentioned a few times in these blog posts) about what I read about the ghetto names in Yahoo Answers, and she told me a few shockers that we Australians have named our children. Some people can't spell, so instead of John, it ends up as Jonh because they know they are supposed to have a h in there somewhere.

But the highlight of all the Australian names has to be Honeybunn. For a male baby.
