The way It is............

Comment Published at 11:3611:365 comments5 comments26 Visits26 VisitsReport

i cant believe its december! wednesday the 9th of december will be 4 years since my dads passing. A strange feeling really, i know he is no longer and yet well its hard to describe the yet. Mums hands have healed. The infection has cleared. one finger has left scarring. One tough lady. and at 90 i admire her so. In so many ways.

Saturday the men replaced her fence. Us women went to church for a memorial service for dad.

an update on my friend. her son myself and my friend went to the hospital for the pre admission. Her operation takes place on the 9th of december. She is fairly optimistic which is good , but i think she might be at denial stage. She still believes the cough that she had back in june triggered her bleeding. Yet the curette biopsy results have shown the C word. She believes there isnt anything wrong with her because she is feeling fine. Lets hope that her belief helps her to fight all this because doctors do say a positive pschological mind can sometimes work wonders.

My other friend that has been battling C of the breast for the last ten years , tells me to give her all the courage i can muster.

well im trying but its not easy.Straight from the hospital pre admin i went to work and i was a mess! ive managed to pull myself together but its not easy. Especially when the doctor says that even if they were to remove all the womb there is still a chance that the C could have already spread to other regions. The biopsy wll tell after a week from the op. if it hasnt spread then she is cured but if its spread to other regions then the chemo and radiotherapy will start.

i did tell a little of this to our youngest son in germany, i was umming and urring about whether to tell him or not. I kept it a bare minimum as not to upset him. But after all its his godmother and i thought it was best that he wasnt left out in the dark

As for me, yesterday i had the panvax H1N1 vaccine to guard against the swine flu. Apparently it will protect me for at least one year. i will take it easy however because i feeel slight flu symptoms coming on. i was sneezing a couple of times yesterday, ive a slight sore throat and a little stuffy runny nose.

my cholesterol levels have shot up even further than they already were. no eggs and cheese for me. The rest of my diet is spot on! I have to step up the excercise , but at the same time my left knee is still giving me trouble. Its been roughly three months and it has only eased up a bit. I will be going for an mri. Ive had the ultra sound and xrays. arthritis did show up but apart from that the tests didnt show anything else. Thats not to say that all is well. The dotor believes that its more than arthritis.when im sitting for too long. and at work it cant be avoided , then im limping and hurting like anything.

but my knee is looking minor to what my friends around me are going through.

im taking Krill oil to help lower my cholestrol cod liver oil for my well being and glucosamine for my knee

life goes on and the day has broken into what appears to be a very promising one. the sun is out , the birds are singing and apart from a little far away traffic noise from the princes highway all is quiet.

Today i will sit and enjoy the sun in my face and back on my decking and dreaming away with music in the background. Next week i will be lazing around on the mornington peninsula for a month. Hubby will be on holidays, too. He only just found out all this as one of the jobs got cancelled til after the new year.

well thats all my news. good and bad My prayers and thoughts to all my friends that are going through some very hard health problems.

hugs kisses

miserable but loving it!!!

oh yes the clouds are grey , the ground is wet, the raindrops still appear on the window pane.

its cold but im not complaining!

our gardens are getting a well deserved soak and that little rain is filling up our much needed water dams that house all of the metroploiton area of melbourne.

the shortage of water is certainly a problem, we are still only allowed to water once a week between a certain day and only 6 am to 8am. the day in question  is saturday for even numbered houses and odds on another .

too bad if you arent around , because it has to have a spray gun attached and hand held. we arent allowed to wash our cars with a hose either.

such a relief though as last week we were getting temperatures in the high 30s . the cool change swept through friday afternoon.

i will be enjoying a lazy sunday .

i hope you all have a great sunday no matter where you are

From germany to holland !!!! yeah for my son!

Comment Published at 12:2712:2712 comments12 comments32 Visits32 VisitsReport

another update from my son in Cologne Germany

next sunday he will be going to Holland for five days as part of his uni course. for those that didnt know , my son is in Cologne Germany as a university exchange student for 6 months.

Certainly a long way away from Melbourne!!!

he just had winter in melbourne and basically flew into another winter!!  He is due back here in March which is autumn here so he will be heading for his 3 rd winter in a row!!! too bad that he will miss his summer!!! The end of summer was february 2009 for him! He will have to wait until December 2010 to see another summer!!!

The world certainly is complex and an amazing place.

he did mention austria in January but as he didnt go into detail im not sure if thats part of the course or not.

anyway they (his girlfriend and my son) are having a great time. Uni takes up 4 days and once he gets his studies out of the way they have their free time to sociolise and see the sites

its the most weird feeling for me. i miss him so, but its like he isnt so far away. Maybe its because i know that its only til march.

meanwhile my older son has taken 12 months off his work and he is planning on spending 6 months overseas. greece is definately on the agenda and he is looking at other countries with a work visa in mind

i  will keep you all posted with progress about both my boys.

hugs kisses

yesterday morning i rang my son in germany.

it was friday night there and they were in a bar enjoying two local german teams playing football (soccer for aussies )

All  is well and i rang a second cousin here in melbourne to find out whereabouts in Germany his brother lives. i met his brother who also is my second cousin of course , back in 2005 when we were both visiting my dads village.

apprently they live in Dusseldorf and they travel to Cologne every 3 months to do a major shop in Cologne as its much cheaper. I have their phone number but my cousin is in Greece at present (his wife stayed behind in germany) . they travel to greece very often because its not far at all.

they go at least every summer. anyway they have two sons. One actually came to Sydney as an exchange student and also went to sweden to study (they are both surgeons) The youngest is planning to come here in january with his long time girlfriend. When he studied in sydney he came down to melbourne to visit his dads brother and family . They keep in constant contact via the net

its about 43 ks from Dusseldorf to cologne and takes about 40 mins to travel .

my son also met his girlfriend's cousins over there. his going to send me his uni schedule so i can avoid those times and  keep in contact with him. His having trouble with his camera on his laptop, hopefully it will work or perhaps he might be able to buy one .

thats my news for the day. i hope you are all enjoying your weekend

what on earth !!!! kings way .......

Comment Published at 23:5423:540 comments0 comments18 Visits18 VisitsReport

detour is so chaotic and so roundabout. i know they have to do it in order to finish the road project.

But yesterday (saturday) going from south east suburbs to western suburbs via kings way west gate bridge wasnt too bad (although they could have done with better signage. left one to believe you could only exit from kings way to get to toll way. but they forgot to add that you can also get to the west gate bridge section toll free)

coming back from west gate bridge to enter the south east area via kings way told us that we had to exit at mortimer street  (that also not totally true! i found out later i could have gone further to pwer avenue and come out to kings way toll free) so i exited mortimer street and followed the signage for detour. At one stage neasr the crown casino car park you need to turn right! well good one what will one lane turning do for all the traffic.

i must have missed the lights 4 or 5 times as the cars were banked up! I had allowed about 5 cars through as a courtesy and i still had cars trying to merge in front of me!

the trip took me twice as long and this was a saturday evening. I hate to be there during peak hour on a week day.

I must admit though when everything will be finished the traffic should flow smoother. but we are looking like america. is it san franscisco that has all the roads crossing over left right and centre. well thats what melbourne is looking like!

i could takee the tollway but my son and i had travelled in seperate cars and i knew he would take the tollway.  However in future if i do get stuck in peak hour traffic i think the tollway is the way to go!

anyone living in melbourne will know what im talking about . these changes have just come about. its advised to get into your lanes early so i recall  on the radio about a week ago!

i might look into an alternate route . footscray road might be the go.

working bee mum family fun but just plain tired!!!

Comment Published at 05:0205:020 comments0 comments9 Visits9 VisitsReport

i started the day with coffee at the neighbours, then i caught up with another friend that cut me some beautiful flowers to take to the cemetary. this was to make up for the beautiful rose that was just about to bloom in my place that some person decided to cut from my garden.

no the rose wasnt hanging from my fence. The person would have walked close to my front door to cut it. Upsetting indeed as in my mind i had dedicated it to be taken for my father's graveside. Without having to ask , my friend cut some beautiful lillies and other various flowers for my dad.

Then as planned i went to mums where my sisters  brothers brother in laws and my son  had started the working bee. we had lunch and a few of us went to  the cemetary (the others had been yesterday)

the men worked on putting a new rangehood on in the kitchen as the old one had seen the last of its days. others poured concrete outside where there was  a little patch up job to be done.

my sisters set about washing curtains, basically spring cleaning.

It was a beautiful sunny day so i opted to do the weeding and general trimming of some flowers. My son helped with the more stubborn weeding that had grown on the outside of the fence. My sister painted the outside  toilet,  basically things that mum wanted fixed around the house.

A few minti members might know that mum had a nasty fall a couple of weeks ago and grazed her fingers. A couple of her fingers on the left hand were particularly in a a bad way. ahe had scraped the skin right down to the bone and it was infected. Antibiotics had to be taken for a course of time. bandages had to be changed every 2nd day and her right hand was also bandaged but not grazed to the extreme as the left.

the clinic luckily is diagonally opposite her place (very convenient) and mum had gone straight to the clinic. Apparently blood was pouring everywhere.  Mum was very lucky indeed as she did fall on the footpath and the pavement is concrete. she also suffered a swollen lip and hurt her chin. We thank God that she didnt hurt her head or hit and break her  nose.

You see mum didnt complain at all . She never does. She never wants to upset us and her faith always gets her through life.  Mum is a very remarkable person and in turn we wanted to give her something back. Over the years no matter how much we try to give mum has always been one step ahead of us and always seems to give that little bit more. A remarkable woman really as i know i have 2 children and although im always there for them i find at times that its very tiring.

Mum has 6 children!!! mums age you might ask, a grand age of 90 yes you heard right. so we are all grateful that mum's fall didnt leave her with any permanent injury.

until we found out about her fall mum went about her chores , but the next day when the doctor changed the bandages they placed a metal inside the outer bandages of each hand to stop mu from bending them! Now the healing days have been hard for my mum because she loves to be on the go and do chores. This is what gets her through the day!

My brother who lives in the same street as mum has been getting her breakfast, then he comes home from work at lunch time to prepare her lunch and then my sil prepares her evening meal and washes her dishes for her.

just over twoweeks have now past a couple of fingers on each hand have healed and they are exposed away from the bandages. the left hand will take at least another two weeks to heal. Mum also has a hole in her hand where gravel become embedded in there and the doctor had to remove it.

we all walked away tonight tired but happy that we were able to help mum out

so goodnight to all . These aching limbs are crying for a good nights sleep!

well i was anxious yesterday at 1.45pm australian eastern standard time my son messaged from dubai airport . he was leaving in a couple of hours for germany. talk soon really tired no sleep good flight though.

he had told me when he left at melb airport(tuesday night) that  he should be there on wed night around 9.30pm aust est. So why hadnt he called?

i waited . and waited and waited. At the end i went to bed expecting a message in the morning. As the morning become midmorning i knew i wouldnt hear from him because the time difference would put him in bed! jet lagged and no sleep since tuesday morning i knew he should be sleeping like a lamb!

Around 3.30pm today (thursday) my sis rang , to see if he got there safely. well i could only update the news up to Dubai. I did say i guess i could message him. So why dont you ? was her reply. so message i did! Tactful so i dont appear "the anxious mum" so i wrote "hows it going? hows your room? i got your sms from dubai any hassles?

his reply "ive had some hassles by tomorrow should be all organised i will sms new number love ya "

well i didnt panic  but no mention of his room so it turns out i needed to ask him about a letter in the mail so i ask again hows your room?

"the room is fine" he replies. Phew !!! at least i know that much! relief is an understatement! his a great son so i knew there were no problems as far as certain issues go. I will have to wait to find out what the hassles were. Although my mind goes to two things. The student visa was recommended to get on the other end (germany) as the embassy here in melbourne wouldnt have sufficient time to provide it. or problems with his course

anyway amazingly i did take advice and had a drink earlier. Maybe thats why i kept my cool! Maybe its because i realise he is a man ! not my baby (he is the youngest!)

with tullamarine airport or Tulla as its fondly called (melbourne airport).

Why do i torture myself? why dont i stay home? why oh why must i go to the airport for departures?

i promised myself i wouldnt cry. No tears !  Well i was okay until lunch time. Until my son mentioned  to me" now mum no crying". That was enough to make me cry.

But i plodded along, keeping myself busy. Cooking and making a hedgehog cake. I just had to make it , after all March is so far away. After i blogged here i went downstairs to play billiards with him. A rare thing for me because i either hit the ball too hard or too soft. But practise makes perfect. Its all about angles!

anyway after our game, he had already played a game with his bro and dad, we sat down to a quick meal.. Off to the airport we went. Quite a good run considering there was a concert in town (black eyed peas ) and we went through city link with the new turn off opend the sir henry bolte bridge. Our roads are starting to resemble american roads with crossovers everywhere

one wrong turn and bad luck!

i felt like i was daydreaming . everything felt surreal . we relaxed with coffees close to the departure gate and took some pics. my son 's camera. Then it was time . Needless to say hubby had tears in his eyes too! Very rare to see hubby cry .

As we were heading back  home and we had entered the freeway we got a call on the mobile from our son. His hand luggage was a little over but they allowed it. Amazing though how technology brings one closer. He was awaiting to board the plane.  There is a 3 hour stopover in Dubai (he is flying emirates )

this is what i just left on his fb sums up our feelings in summary

"Departures are never fun if your the one left behind, but life is full of experiences. Spread those wings while your young and broaden your knowledge.

For wisdom comes from those and never ever let go of the values  you have acquired in life

luv ya heaps mum dad and bro xxxooo"

God Bless

Annie
