we went to my great nephew's christening and his first birthday. the party was at home. but what a party
they had caterers for the food a machine for cocktails non alcholic and alcoholic. the waitress was serving which was great because it meant no children could slip a drink by mistake.
they had a "pirate" for the kiddies entertainment who also did tricks beforehand wiith theadults before starting the fun for children.
they had a live bouzouki band playing under the marquee and a seperate dance area plenty of "greek dancing" including zorba.
they had lots of food that was served to us and we had "fish souvlakia or kebabs which were just delicious. the meatballs were also delicious
there was karioke near the end of the evening. i was tempted to give it a go but being one that cant sing a note i left it to the experts. including one guy that was great. but i was told he used to play in a band.
there were so many cakes and the coffee range was incredible!!
whilst the cost wasnt exactly cheap (i believe similar to having it at a reception or a tavern) the beauty of all this was that the baby was able to sleep in his surroundings. my sister the grandmother was there with the baby moniter in one of the living ares (away from the party) making sure baby was okay. while she also monitered another of her grandchild.
i enjoyed myself immensly. the views from the front of their house is incredible. they are high up and you can see melbourne all lit up at night. you can see the west gate bridge and the flemington race course it was spectacular.
my sister (grandmother ) was dissappointed by the rain but the setup of the house was "great" its a new house with indoor outdoor living as is the norm with the new houses now. the atmosphere was just great and the rain didnt dampen the night
my only regret is my sore feet from doing the "zorba" because having a live bouzouki band the tempo picked up quickly and linger than you would expect from a cd.
