So shocked

Comment Published at 21:3121:3117 comments17 comments50 Visits50 VisitsReport

Well last night I burst into tears and told Shayne I quit and OMG, he was fine with it. He said good, I was pretty ****** of at them the other night if you couldn't tell. (talking about my Tuesday night). Then I put out the idea of the "child swap" thingy but he wasn't up for it, but instead would rather child care. His reason being They are trained to deal with emergency situations. And a parent would have no idea what to do? But in the meantime he would rather I took some time to sort myself out and think about what I really want to do. At the moment, I would rather go back to school then work and get some kind of a qualification in a career I would enjoy. I just figure it would be better off for me to return to the workforce in something I really want to do rather than what I "can do" because of lack of qualifications. I mean you are more likely to stick it out if you enjoy the work. Now I just need to figure out What I want to do. I thought about vetrenarian nurse, but I don't know how I would go with having to put animals down or not being able to save an animal. But I like the idea of working with animals. I need to do some research first too tho' being a highschool dropout I don't know weather I can get into the courses I need too. Hmmmm too many choices.Shayne thinks I would be good working with the elderly but they die too. And with my personality I wouldn't be able to stay carer/patient I always try to connect with ppl on a personnel level. I also don't like the idea of being cooped up in an office. I need the freedom to roam about. I like to be outdoors rather than in. I would also like to be able to have the oppurtuinty to show some creativity. I like photography but once again with Shaynes influence, he thinks it's not a "real career". Hmmm will be a long time in the thinking I think! Well thats about it for now. Just wanted to let everyone know how Shayne went with the news. Hope evryone is having a good weekend.

luv Karen. xx.

Re: So shocked

Oh hun, please don't think I don't trust you. I would rather a unqualified mum than a qualified teenie bopper looking after my son. There is stuff (no matter how many qualifications you have) That you will never really understand until you are a parent. And you are one rockin mum!

Re: So shocked

With some confidence and determination you can be whatever you want to be even if you didn't finish high school. There are tafe courses which can help you get into uni and there are uni preperation courses and refresher courses in things like math and english. Look on the Tafe and Uni websites to get an idea of what you want to do then look at what is required. As a mature aged student (over 25) you can go to uni without having to have completed the pre requsites. Good luck and I wish you all the best!

Re: So shocked

Hi Karen

Pleased all went well for you last night with Shayne, and he sounds like a great guy... Tafe run many courses or if u have a community centre close by they do as well..

You know when the time comes what makes you feel like you happy to wake every morning and head to your job desination for the day..

I agree with Shayne a little on the childcare side, but also there is pros and cons to child care centres as well, so dont fold on the idea of share care with your friend yet,...

Best of luck..

xx cazza

Re: So shocked

Oh Karen!  I am so thrilled!  That is very good news for you, and must make your world just a little bit brighter.

As for how you will go getting into the course you want, why not do a university preperation course?  I tried one, but having 4 little kids and a husband who at the time wouldn't supervise them for me for 2 hours 3 days a week, I gave up on it.  The course is just for women, and is done from home.  If you like, I can track down the info for you about it.  once you complete this course, the uni it is through practically guarantees you a spot in your chosen course.

It really sounds like life is finally giving you something good.  Take the time and find yourself!!!!!!

Re: So shocked

Arna, you have no idea of how much my posture has improved already with that weight lifeted off my shoulders.  I will be taking a little while for sure, get things at home organised again and a better routine for everyone. Just to find some balance. I am so looking forward to my last day. The course sounds great, and I will take any info anyone can give me on returning to school.

I think I deserve a break and a little bit of goodness coming my way. Thankyou. much love. xx.

Re: So shocked

That's great Karen..........Sometimes our guys can surprise us can't they! It's great you're both talking about it and coming to an agreement together. I hope you find your passion and I think it's important you love what you're doing, it makes life and work so much more enjoyable. TAFE do alot of introduction courses so you can find out what it is you like etc.  Good Luck!!!

Re: So shocked

I had a feeling he might be alright with it... as for study good on you. There are many ways to get back into it. Most Tafe's and Uni's offer Mature Age Entry. I know heaps of people that have got back into study this way. For me it was finding what I was most passionate about and going from there. You will find what you are looking for I just know it. Looks like a whole new start for you.... how exciting!!!!

All the best,

fi xoxo

Re: So shocked

Hey Fi Fi,  I don't know why I was freaking out about it so much. Just in my nature I guess. A real worry wart, I will eventually decide on what I want to do, but b4 that I really want to find me again, Not my title (mum, partner etc), but the real me, as an individual. And as scary as that is I am really looking forward to the journey of self discovery.

xx.
