Apologies to anyone who tried to read my previous blog post, but couldn't get through to my site. My webhost moved my site to a new server, but kind of forget to notify my control panel of the fact, so for 12 hours, my site didn't exist.
My first reaction to discovering it was that my site had been hacked, as it was an error code I have never seen before. Thankfully, that isn't the case, I just didn't have permission to view my own site! Yep, I own it and all and still didn't have permission!
The good news is, they responded to my complaint asap, fixed it and explained they were moving me to the bigger server, where I shouldn't experience as much down time. We will see on that score though, because they promised that last time, and I was down for 3 days!!! Oh the joys of trying to run your own site!
That isn't where my computer woes end either. Oh no, I have a barage of problems going on here at the moment, and it is all because of the latest version of Firefox! Yep, webpages load quicker, minti now being the quickest of the lot, but what good is it being quick if Firefox crashes without warning and for no reason? Hhhhmmm, wish I could remove it and have the old one back, but that isn't possible either!
The problem with Firefox has also affected other areas of my computer. I can no longer use msn, because apparently it doesn't exist on my computer, which is odd considering I was chatting away early this morning! Not now though, I have once again been locked out!
None of my games will run properly and self terminate without warning, very frustrating seeing as some don't have auto save (like the Sims). What else? My desktop keeps changing around so I can never find anything!
Apart from not being able to do much on my computer, I'm having a ball! I'm constantly sending error reports to Microsoft so they might be able to work on a patch to fix Firefox, which can be fun! I doubt very much they will understand anything I have said though, because I've written it all in Arnaish! lmao!
What do you know! I have managed to write this without being kicked out! Yippeeee! Now it better publish! |

Re: Now I Have Computer Woes!!!
You are right that it isn't Firefox causing the problem. Sheepish me realised I had a Windows Update pending, and it had been sitting there for 3 days! LOL.
I have Vista, and have noticed that whenever there are updates pending, espeically for more than a couple of days, my computer gets stroppy! Firefox will crash, my games won't even load and my email won't bother going online to retrieve my mail.
After writing this post, I rebooted and installed the updates. Not a problem since, and it found msn again. Now all I have to worry about is where the heck my creative writing folder went to, but I suspect our 2 year old deleted that one for me! LOL
I used to have Norton's on my desktop computer, but found that it just sat there and did nothing. I have the full version of AVG, which argues with Windows Defender over who is the better protector! lmao! I'm not kidding either, I have to give permission to both before I modify any of my computer settings!
So, being in IT would mean you would know how to teach Vista to behave, so what's the secret because if I lose one more thing I have slaved over, this computer will become an international flyer! LOL.
And the problem with msn was that with the pending updates, and all the other stuff open (especially the google side bar which i love), it was just way too much excitement! Either that, or a hint I'd already spent too much time chatting. After a reboot, it worked just fine.
With links, I always open a new window and manually type the link in. I use the AVG search bar, and it has not allowed me onto a malicious site yet. I like the warning level system which helps me decide if i want to take the risk or not, and it also warns of inappropriate content too. I've been caught before when using Norton's, so extra careful now. Thankfully, all I lost was games files, which was odd.
And here comes the next update. I'll install it in the morning, so I can finish my fun first. LOL.
Thanks for your time Brent, it is greatly appreciated. My dinosaur computer tech husband has kind of had to admit defeat when it comes to my computer! lmao!

Re: Now I Have Computer Woes!!!
Ok, what you can do is to go here:
www.malwarebytes.org/
Download the MalwareBytes program (download link on LHS ...big blue button). Install, update and run the scan, do the full scan this time around.
This program will look for ay malware/spyware that might be o your computer. If it finds anything, it will ask you if you want to fix the problem......you sure will want to.
Next, I gotta ask...do you have an internet security program...ie Antivirus and firewall? If you don't...the best program is Kasperski Internet security suite. You can get the trial version here:
www.kaspersky.com.au/content.aspx download the trial version, or opt to pay online for a full version. (paying online and downloading the full version is heaps cheaper than getting it in the shops. You will save around $130 for a years subscription.
Install this program (if you get the full version you will need to register it by adding the key code that will be emailed to you when you purchase it), and scan your computer.....Again do the complete scan and follow any directions the program offers if you find a virus... See how you go, and post back here to let me know how it all went!
