Unhappy About Members Being Reported For The Content Of Their Blogs

Comment Published at 03:2803:2814 comments14 comments79 Visits79 VisitsReport

I feel all I have managed to do on minti today is vote and comment in the reports section.  Because of that, I have not had a lot of time to do anything else, and I'm now getting ready to log out for the day because I have other things to be doing.

The members that are being reported have written blog posts that, while not entirely about parenting, aren't in breach of the ToS either.

These members are being reported as spammers, which normally I'd agree, except that the definition of spam is unsolicitored advertising, which means the means of delivery is on mass by email or in inappropriate areas of the internet eg:  In the advice and q&a section of minti.

I was under the impression that our blogs are for us to write about whatever we want to write about, and that as long as it isn't derogetory or explicit in nature, then it is ok to publish it.

Where is the line drawn between spam and someone wanting to share their experiences about a particular service, links included?  At the moment, I'm finding it hard to understand why my membership hasn't been reported, and yet others who only use their personal blogs are being reported.

Because of my feelings, I have cancelled my rss feeds, meaning minti will no longer receive my external blog, which is where I do most of my blogging.  I just think that my blogs are spam too, or at least some of the posts are.

I don't have time to be sitting down and writing a blog for every website I visit, so this will more than likely be my last blog.  I will keep the links to my site on my homepage but other than that, no more blogging here from me.

Re: Unhappy About Members Being Reported For The Content Of Their Blogs

I can see both sides of the issue here...I agree with a bit of both...If it is a blog then its a blog and its up to the individual members whether they read it or not.  If the blog contains something explicit then by all means report it but other than that why waste your time even reading it.  If you feel that after reading it that it should be reported, that is a personal choice also.

I like many others, enjoy your blogs Arna, please if you can, rethink the whole you are not going to blog here again thing...If someone wants to take the time to report all the members whose blogs don't jive with them that is their choice and their own time they are using up...your insights, intelligence and input are more than appreciated by many...just remember, you don't even have to look at the reported members and vote if you don't want to...again its all a matter of personal choice...I choose to say I would miss your input here, very much indeed....

Re: Unhappy About Members Being Reported For The Content Of Their Blogs

Just to update you & ensure that you are aware these reported members that you are unhappy about are all one & the same person/company signing up under various names to advertise acai berry, colon cleanse, teeth whitening & cellulite.  Therefore they are multiple accounts & since this/these persons also post in comments & advice about the same thing they are doubly in breach.  Don't vote if you find this hard to follow or time consuming, however I just thought you may not be aware that these precious members are not remotely innocent & they definitely do breach ToS by having multiple accounts at the very least.

Re: Unhappy About Members Being Reported For The Content Of Their Blogs

If in doubt don't vote Arna. There are hundreds and hundreds of members with admin to do that, though most don't bother, which is fine, admin priv is not obligatory and we choose to take part or not. If I have better thing to be doing I go do them and leave the voting and decisions to others.

Some of the "Spammers" had already had content reported and deleted earlier, hence the lack of evidence.

I agree that at least one of the blogs, in my oppinion was not in breech and I voted such.

This reporting has nothing to do with your blog or the content of your blogs and I am finding it difficult to see the parrallels that you seem to see !

If I were you I would take a deep breath, look at it again and re think your stance. But at the end of the day Arna it is your choice to get involved or not. Also your choice to blog or not. However it would seem more appropriate to open a debate on the issue and get the general feeling of the community on "Advertising Blogs" rather than just, up and de blog.

As everyone else has said, please Arna, dont stop blogging here! I certainly didnt notice your advert - must have missed that one. Yes, I get the sinking feeling when I see all the stuff to vote on, so on days like today I confess I vote until I've had enough and then I give up and leave the rest for someone else/tomorrow. But as you are so much more busy than me (Arna 5, Kathryn 2!) why dont you just turn a blind eye to the Reports section? And I agree that the Spammers are the ones who ONLY advertise - WAHMs and others who participate should definitely be allowed to advertise in their Blogs - perhaps the ToS should reflect this if it's not too complicated to legislate for? That's certainly the way I vote anyhow.

Please Arna do not stop your blogs. I for one love reading about your lovely girls, and I expect you know I am not a young mum but I 'm a grandma. I would miss you. Several of my friends have gone over to FB. I do look around there as so many of my nieces and nephews are there but I am not keen on it

Love to you all

Pauline

I for one am sick and tired of these people with there advert in there one off bloggs also the bloggs from 2006-7 reappearing i had to report a person who put up a male boy about 7 years of age in the nude , stakers full frontal and this is the only report I have done and if I thought that the one of would stop I would report them too

Re: Unhappy About Members Being Reported For The Content Of Their Blogs

I think I have reported about 13 or 14 in the last 24hrs... Most of them have joined & rejoined to post the same rubbish over & over.  You didn't have to vote on them, I'm sorry you feel you wasted your time, however if there were better filters when joining, then I wouldn't have had to report them for their blatant advertising in their blogs, stupid questions & pointless comments tacked all over the site.  I am sick of looking at them, if other people agree, then they can choose to vote them off or not.

Re: Unhappy About Members Being Reported For The Content Of Their Blogs

when I had a home business myself and another email admin and were told we can do so in our own blog and homepage but in small amounts. like 1 day Pia found that a product we were selling was great for oil stains and blogged about it. it was great. I am getting annoyed at the constant spam in the Q&A cause that is for parent Q's and site only Q's not about the internet.

please dont stop writing blogs here cause I love reading them.

Re: Unhappy About Members Being Reported For The Content Of Their Blogs

people who join only to advertise products are spammers, blog or not. Its NOT like you only contribute by advertising is it Arna? You offer advice and answers on parenting issues. Not all your blogs are short adverts. Its totally different.

If these people actually intended on offering more then acia berrys or russian dolls then they wouldn't be reported. If it upsets you so much why don't you just not vote? Just an idea?

xoxo

Most of these people are not sharing there experience either, just blatent advertising for their own personal gain. In your happy happy happy blog, did you gain anything finacially from posting that?....
