Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

Comment Published at 09:4909:4926 comments26 comments36 Visits36 VisitsReport

Coca Cola vs Pepsi Cola

Which major cola drink manufacturer hits the nail on the head?  Coca Cola who have classic red label or Pepsi with their blue label?  both have been around since the late 1800's, but which one has the better taste and products that meet your needs?

Rules

  1. This is persuasive writing, where you have to convince me which is the better Cola company, so please argue one side.  If you want to argue both sides, use 2 responses.
  2. You need to describe what you like about your chosen company
  3. No one is right or wrong in their opinions
  4. If you are not a cola drinker, then you can still respond stating why you stay away from the stuff.  Your opinions are just as valid.
  5. THIS IS JUST A LITTLE BIT OF FUN!

My Response:

By far for me, Coca Cola has been the better of the major cola companies.  The taste and bubble ratio is unbeatable.  It is also the one that I knew of first, so probably was biased from a young age.

Pepsi just seems to miss the satisfaction spot, and I even worked for KFC for a while where the only drink provided to us was Pepsi.  Needless to say, I brought my own water bottle to work everyday.

Coca Cola is much smoother and richer in taste.  There is no harsh pepperyness to it and it is not overly sweet.  I prefer it because it is more readily available, works with health organisations to improve on their products and is just so fine to drink.

While both companies are highly commercialised, I've yet to be offended by a Coca Cola advertisement, where as Pepsi has often, in my opinion, gone a little bit too far with their ads.  CC also supports other companies that support charities.  Here in Australia, McDonalds has a stake in Coca Cola, and they have the Ronald McDonald House Charities that help and support children and their families in their greatest time of need.  Not heard of Pepsi doing anything like this.

Well, I'm not really making sense tonight.  This debate response has been much harder to write, so I will leave it there and say 'Pass the Coca Cola please!'

Right, now it is your turn.  Enlighten me with your thoughts.

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

The taste of Coke beats Pepsi in my books too.  Funny how noone has come in to defend pepsi at all! lol.

Cokes advertising has been outrageous at times, but they have at least kept it to more acceptable and not socially immoral ideas.

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

Hi Arna

I was brought up on Coca Cola and I have tasted various brands but I think the best tasting coca cola was the one made in glass bottles don't know why but it always tasted better coming from a glass bottle rather than a plastic one.  But now I avoid cola at home as I know what's in the drink (water, sugar and battery acid I think, lol)  and I stick to fruit juice.  But I do on occasions still drink cola when I'm out at a restaurant it all depends on whether I'm in a cola mood or not.   My mum told me once that flat coca cola can be used to make your toilet shine, think that must have put me off it, lol.

Take care sweetie and enjoy your coke xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

I refuse to drink Pepsi.  Was like watered down pepper soup to me! lol.

coke is certainly the better one for me! lol.

Fruit juice is the healthier choice, but you gotta have your cola when you want it! lol.

Hi Arna, I am a consciencious objector to this one...

I refuse to enter a debate about products which are 99% sweetened water!

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

All objections are noted.  I did leave the option open for why don't drink cola drinks too.

You make a very good point about the 99% sweetened water, but I have to maximize my calorie intake at the moment! lol.  And Coke seems to be the only sweetened drink that I can actually stomach most of the time.  I don't drink a lot of it, more of a treat, and our girls aren't allowed it, they get lemonade instead.  Or a milkshake when we are out which is a healthier treat!

So, despite your objections to Cola products, you still partook in the exercise! lol.

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

I'm to sleep deprived, so if i start to ramble or not make sense, you know why LOL.

Anyway. I have always prefered Coke. From an early age, i remember having a coke yo-yo. Coke always had the best merchandise. This has probably swayed me somewhat although the taste of coke is by far superior. It has the bite that pepsi lacks. I've always thought that coke had the better ads as well. There ads are generally more fun and pepsi has disapointingly gone the celebrity route.

Coke has the taste, style and fun factor!!

As for the charity side, I haven't heard of pepsi doing anything like the amount that Coke has, as far as Maccas etc. Therefore, Coke wins yet again!

Coke wins on all fronts!!

I could of probably written this much better but like i said. Not enough sleep equals fuzzy brain!!

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

We live in a smallish country town, so can't get one unless I go to Macca's or our local donut shop.  The donut shop one is just a generic brand, but still good.  Tastes like someone mixed rum with it! lol.

Yep, Coke certainly has it all.  Just as well I got some in the fridge, I've got cravings now! lol.

Now go and get some sleep!

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

Yeah, I've been naughty.  Not tonight though, early shower and early bed.  Got to be up at 5am to catch the 7am train, leaving the house at 6:15am but I need that long to get going! lol.

Hopefully, I'll have enough energy left to blog about my day tomorrow, but if I don't, it won't mean bad news, just that I fell asleep on the train and ended up in Cairns. ROFL

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

I'm not qualified  to debate on this issue as I do not drink cola drinks. However, I thought I'd add something someone told me a few weeks ago. When he was at uni as a Marketing student, I think it was his one of his Marketing classes that decided to do the Pepsi vs Coke test. However, they also included another variable which was a no-brand Coke - not sure what it is, but it's probably something like LA Cola, etc. The participants in the study were random students from around campus. Most of them actually picked the home brand/no-name brand cola drink!

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

Of course you are qualified to enter the debate.  I left the option for non cola drinkers too.

Interesting stats that your friend got.  Just goes to show the big names aren't always the best.

Thanks for your input angieh, we will miss you when you go.

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

I'd love to participate in one of these, but last time I didn't know who David Attenborough was, and this time I don't drink pop! I have had people here in the States tell me that which one they drink depends on where they are? My sister lives in San Diego and drinks Coke there, but she says the water must make a difference in the mixing because when she goes back to Wyoming to visit, she prefers Pepsi! Go figure!

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

I did leave the link to David Attenborough's wikipedia entry on my last debate for those who haven't heard of him, but no matter.  He won my debate any way! lol.

Water quality does affect the taste of all drinks, so not surprised people switch when they travel.

I'm working on some more ideas for debates, so hopefully, I will get to one that you can dance all over! lol.

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

i would have to agree with you on the water quality affecting the flavour of the drinks because when my hubby and i went to bali on our honeymoon the coke tasted like the pepsi in australia and i was quite upset at that one as I am a coca cola drinker.

Water quality affects a lot of things, including home cooking.  We got a water filter a few months ago and everything tastes to much better now.

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

Actually, now that you mention it, I did take a look at the Wiki page, but since the debate was about which presentation style on their show was better, and I hadn't seen his, I didn't really think I could take a side.

Is there a writers group on minti? I wouldn't mind exchanging ideas and things, and I actually had a couple of ideas for some writing practice myself the other day that would be more fun if other people tried it too.

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

Not sure if there is a writers group.  You could always start one of your own.

And I should have put Steve Irwin's link up too just so people wouldn't think I was playing favourites.  Ok, so I was! lol.  Just Mr Irwin was a bit more 'modern' and didn't really need to be looked up!  he was soooo big your way!

Re: Debate Time #2: Better Cola Company:

Yeah, I didn't need to look up Steve Irwin. That's true! I do remember though, the first time I ever saw him I don't think I cared much for his style. He grew on me in time though.
