Not so fun night last night.

Last night my son was rushed to hospital in an ambulance. It was quite a dramatic time for me and my 16 year old as I had left Nik home with his mate at about 5. He had helped me put the roast on and then I had gone to pick up his brother at work. When we got home we continued on with cooking and serving. I called out to the boys dinner was ready then Kiza and I went into the other room. There was some banging going on upstairs a few times and I called out for them to quit it or I would be up there. I thought they were wrestling or something. Anyway soon I realised that something more was going on. Note that noone has bothered to call out to me for help. Obviously his mate must have been scared to get in trouble. The final thud was the last straw. I stormed toward the steps and noticed food going down the stairs. The rest was like a scene from a bad movie I wish I was not in.

I run in looking for them and see his mate on the phone and scream what is going on? He is panicing. I go in the bathroom and see my son with his eyes rolling into the back of his head and he is not with me at all. There is spew everywhere and he can't even talk to me nothing. I scream to my son to come. This is serious. I am yelling, What have you taken? He is saying no nothing but he isn't registering what I am saying. My son runs in and slaps him and his head has no support so I yell at him. He says I am ringing the cops. I am trying to keep him awake. I ring James on mobile and tell him that Nik has taken something, I don't know what to do. He says he is on the way. Anyway to make a long story short it was very traumatic. The police had to calm me down over the phone just so I could function. I am shaking just writing this. I thought he was going to die. He was vomiting so I was trying to keep him on his side. The ambulance didn't take too long but it felt like forever.

I went in the ambulance to the hospital and find out that he has been drinking. I thought drugs. I have seen people drunk but nothing like this drunk. They had got some home made wine from some other friend. I was there til midnight and he was going to have to stay there to sleep it off. I took the day off and got him in the morning and we went home to clean up and talk. Well I could definately do without this stress.

Brings back memories of my trip to hospital for the same!  Not nice and I learned my lesson!  Hope he is ok now.  It is a difficult age and boys find it hard to ask for help.  Don't be too hard on his friend, he must have been just as frightened!  Maybe you could do an education session with your son and his mates about the dangers of alcohol and what to do if someone gets that sick again.  Drinking does cause more death and permanent damage than drugs and sadly is more readily available.!

Just be open and honest and get him to be the same.  We can't stop them from doing what teens do, all we can do is provide them with the info!

Take care, and have a glass of wine to calm down. lol.  You need it.

Hi
Welcome to the world of teenage drinking
So fun....teach them not to accept drinks from friends and other people unless they have not been opened.
Read a few of cookclans articles
The wine may have even been spiked.
It's scary and all we can do is talk to them and try get them drinking responsibly if they are going to do it.
The more you try stop them the more they do in secret.
Hugs
Luv Deb

oh you poor thing. Hope he will talk to you. If this was the first time then he doesn't know his limits but I truely hope it is the first time. There is danger too in consuming home brew as you don't know the alchol type or level and wether it's save or not. Good luck there. Hoping for the best!
