Yellow sticker

Comment Published at 22:1022:1039 comments39 comments76 Visits76 VisitsReport

Just got a phone call from my son. I am so mad at him right now cause he was picked up for speeding and then they slapped a yellow sticker on too for good measure. 3 points and $300 and that is his whole pay check for the week. His excuse is he didn't know, he thought it was 80km zone, plus he was going down hill. BLAH BLAH BLAH. As you can imagine I just want to strangle him. Had enough bad in my life for a while now. PLEASE send me some good news! BLOODY KIDS!!!!

Re: Yellow sticker

Hi honey,

I agree  . . Bloody kids!!! . . . Especially the older ones that should no better . .  Really our teens seem to come out with some pathetic excuses when all they really need to do is to own up and take responsibility . . . If our teens did this then I think we would die of shock, hehehe.

I hope your son doesn't expect you to carry him 'til the next pay check!!! . . .  I guess he will just have to learn to obey the road rules just like everyone else!! . . .

Wish I could give you some good news . . HANG ON  - I CAN, well good new for me anyway!!  . I went out today for a meal with one of my gf's. First time I've done this in 12 months - it was GREAT . .  Perhaps you should do it just to get your mind of your son . ..

Hugs Alana xoxoxoxo

Re: Yellow sticker

it's a notice that you have to stick to your car..
because it's basically "unsafe" to drive on the road...
so you are given a date until which you have to fix the problem :)

then once you fix the problem, you take the car to the 'pits' where they determine whether your car is once again, safe to drive :)

Re: Yellow sticker

It's better he gets caught and hopefully will learn from it. Too many people think that speeding is all about them, when in fact by being pulled over, they are just being reminded that it's about everyone!!!!

Re: Yellow sticker

hugs sweety. the police pick on the P platers here in perth. a mate of our got a yellow for bald tires he was smart enought not to say something but they were brand new. he had bought them a month before hand. sadly when he went to take it over the pits the cops realised that the engine number was different and then they wanted to try andd get him for illegal mods but we found the paper work for him saying the engine that is in his car was in that car ( it had been changed) but u could import it for that car.

but there is no excuse for speeding i am always on at chris for speeding. he is always doing 5km + over. i get so mad at him.

Re: Yellow sticker

Police tend to "pick" on P platers because statistically they are the ones that have the most crashes that end in death or serious injury. At the end of the day I would prefer the police 'pick' on P platers then let them all drive around thinking they are king d*** because they just got their licenses...

Also my ex could easily go through a set of tires in a night so just because they were a month old doesn't mean they weren't bald... despite the negative image the police have been given they don't tend to just waltz around slapping yellow stickers on cars for the hell of it. My ex used to get pulled over all the time and whinge about it but it is only because every 2nd time the cops would pull him over it was because he was being a hoon!

I have the highest respect for police. They put their lives on the line to keep me safe. Nothing makes me more mad than people who take that for granted and abuse them.

Re: Yellow sticker

not to be rude but do u know any police officers???? here in perth even???? i do... my SIL's hubby is one and they HAVE to pull the P platers over. so YES they do pick on them here in perth and my MATES tyres wernt bald as he dont like to waste money doing burn outs. also he is doing up his car so wasting money on tires is not an option for him.

I DO have respect for the police and i love my BIL to bits. he has been in some of the worst cases over here in perth and he also graduated at the top of his class and he is in the army reserve too.

I know alot of what goes behind the police door as my BIL tells us. he has also told us what to do to our cars and helped us get the right info for our mate to get his car put back on the road.

Instead of pulling the P platers over they should change the car laws where P platers can only have a small un modded car that is under a sertian horsepower. I have lost a few friends to illegal drag racing and i also live right next to a bad strectch where ppl always drag race. in the 5 years i have been here 10 ppl have died there. 5 was in 1 car.

Re: Yellow sticker

Hey Libby calm down LOL I was saying that they DO pick on them but I am glad they do. I have had 3 friends pass away from accidents caused by dangerous driving and yes my uncle is a police officer and I am on quite friendly terms with a few here in Hobart,

I wasn't saying YOU didn't have respect for them, I was just saying it p***es me off when people DON'T.

I agree a few changes could be made. Yes only allow people to have smaller un modded cars would be a fantastic one! I also am all for the no V8's rule as a P plater needs to learn how to keep control of a car and peer pressure is bad enough without sticking them behind the wheel of a even more powerful car. I also think that there should be a zero limit when driving no matter how long you have had your license for as sometimes it is just too hard to judge if you will blow over, and also a couple of wines may effect 2 people very differently.

So smile!

Re: Yellow sticker

well i dont agree with the no v8 rule. Not every p plater is going too hoon.So its ok for full licensed to drive a v8 and act like dumbasses??

Like i said, i have a v8 and because of this stereotyping i cant drive it!! and thats what it is stereotyping, not all p platers hoon so why do you think they should all be punished?? If you drove and wwas on your p's and had a v8 and was being punished when your a responsible driver you would be angry too.

Re: Yellow sticker

Come on Dannii... where did I say it was ok for full licensed people to drive V8's like dumb a**es??

My ex and I had a Rambler Rebel V8... couldn't drive it so got a Meteor. No big deal.

I am not for ANYONE driving like idiots. I just stated a fact that STATISTICALLY P Plate drivers have more accidents causing death and serious injury than any other driver group. This includes full licensed people and even old folks. I would prefer that everyone be penalised than no-one and let the stats get higher.

Argh I can't spell and I am too tired for this... i'm off to bed...

Re: Yellow sticker

1st ly i didnt say taht you were for full licensed ppl driving v8s like dumbasses i asked do you think its ok??

Well i love my car and do think its a big deal that i have to sell my pride and joy becasue of others mistakes and the sterotyping.

Not all p platers that have accidents are in v8s, also thats just what we hear.We always here about the bad p platers but what about the bad full licensed or learners?? I dont want to argue about this especially in someone elses blog.

I think when the hoons are caught once there cars get impounded not everyone get punished for some stupid ones mistakes. Also thanks for the low stars, Luv em!!

Re: Yellow sticker

have to agree with dannii here, i drive a turbo 180sx myself and ive only had my full license for 2 years but i see fully licensed drivers flying past me in their camrys and 4wds all the time. You don't see cops pulling over every single one of them...hell half the time im wishin theres a cop next to me so i can see one of those dumbas*es get pulled over.

to be honest i dont think limiting the power of the car that a p plater is driving is going to stop anything. the main factors in accidents when it involves young people is experience, and the state of the car. I've managed to nearly kill myself more than once in a crappy old ford laser that has no power at all. The fact that the car has no power does not stop the fact that physics will act on the car. and if there is rain or oil on the road, the car will keep going straight no matter how hard ur tryin to turn it. Keeping in mind, i was turning a corner at 20 ks in my folks ford laser and the car nearly ran into a wall because of weather conditions.

Another time i was turning a corner in my old crappy toyota corona and the back tyres lost grip because of the rain and i lost control. Neither of those 2 incidents were in high powered cars but i could have easily crashed into someone else due to my inexperience or the cars and conditions. Unfortunately my luck didnt last and i did have an accident later in my 200sx. However that just highlighted my inexperience in that particular car...which means that even if i had been off my P Plates the same thing would have happened due to my inexperience.

In my opinion, once they've put the whole power limitation in place, the so called 'danger years' when it comes to motor vehicle accidents will just move up one level as the people who would be driving the cars younger would now just be crashing them at an older age...

Instead of having their car and experience at an earlier age, they just do the same stupid sh1t later on instead of earlier on. The fact that they couldn't get the car until they were off the Ps just means that they will find out how to crash them a few years later rather than earlier. The reason for that ? experience. no matter what, they wont have the experience they would have had if they had the car for longer. That's not saying that the road toll won't go down, but in my opinion it will probably stay the same. 2-3 years doesn't mature most people much nowadays.

The government should really give P platers an incentive to drive safe by giving all L platers / P Platers free driving courses. That would address the whole safety concern in a better way than stupid limits like those that have been imposed in the eastern states. Even with low power cars, someone doing something stupid is still going to kill someone no matter what car it is. The simple fact is that teenagers will always be teenagers, and I'd rather have some stupid teenager who knew how to control a car than one who didnt.

This is all just my opinion though, as skewered as it may be...

Re: Yellow sticker

Hey Lawrence.

Glad to see someone on the same page as me  I just think its stupid that all p platers get looked down on. Cos if i drove my car with no p plates i wouldnt get picked up but with them on i will. Yes my car is high powered but like any car you have to put your foot down, which is something i wont do especially when ill have a baby in the car..

Ive driven my car a few times and its the most best car and i dont want to sell it cos of these laws which are unfair. Why should i be punished for other peoples stupid actions? Ive driven my bfs car which is alot more powerful than mine cos it has diff gears ect, i didnt like the feel of it and was scared so i wouldnt drive his car again knowing im not ready for that much power and dont have control over the car. Yet with mine i feel very confident and even tho its a v8 i feel i have control over the car and im not scared of it.

Your answer isnt screwed at all!! Everyone has a right to put in there opinion but i dont agree when people argue about somethng when there not wrong and i dont like being told i shouldnt have my car cos of other people.

Great Answer, hopefully someone here can understand.

Dannii

Re: Yellow sticker

i think a p plater sshould only be able to drive a v8 if they have sucessfully completed the advance training as it is not to punish them but a v8 is very powerful and 99% of P platers dont understand the road conditions. ie they gun it at first rain. water on the road oil on the road. slip and slide all over the road and end up in a tree.

its to make them safe not to punish. in my opinion v8's unless u know how to drive properly are unsafe. i have been in one and i shat myself with the power

Re: Yellow sticker

Also not all tyres wear down because of doing burnouts. My bf doesnt do them anymore and his are bald and only 2months old, so had to change them again

Reason his are bald are because when people have big rims on there cars it wears the insides out, also having irs wears the insides.

And some police do pick on p platers, ive been in the car with plenty of people when it happened to them.Ive seen people who drive around in rust buckets and there let go, yet they pick on ppl like my bf for his car being too low. He isnt harming anybody with his car low, if anything he damages his car when it scrapes over speed bumps.

Re: Yellow sticker

my car scraps over speedhumps too as i have my corolla hatch lowered too. i am doing mine up and cause i have my kids in the car i never get pulled over.

there is a limit that the car can be lowered to and that is a coke can height. :)

but alot of the time and my BIL told me this is they need the money to employ more officers so thats what the speed camera's are for and the pulling over for fun.

a few years ago before my BIL went counrty they were told to pull anyone over that had a mobile phone in their hand. its illegal to even send an sms here or look at one ( which i totally agree with and thats what blue tooth is 4) all they want it the writen info on their books they have to make it look like they have done thheir job and not driven around all day (this is what my BIL said to us)

Re: Yellow sticker

hey libby, i've heard about the cop money thing too...

my friend told me how there's a certain "minimum revenue limit" that they have to reach in a day, so that's why they're in such a hurry to pull people over for speeding...

i also heard that in some of those 'red light' camera boxes, there arent even cameras, but i dont know if thats true... or people just hope it is. haha

Re: Yellow sticker

yeah they have a certian number of camera's and they change them about here. and we have 2 backward facing speed camera's now so watch them......

yeah they have to get so many ppl and sadly after all the P plater crashes of late they are the ones getting picked on.... but there has been a few times i have wanted to be a police officer as we have a few BAD cars that do 100 down our street and it is a 50 zone with a daycare centre and 3 round abouts......

Re: Yellow sticker

now thats what pisses me off...

i'm not going to lie and say "ive never once sped in my life"
but i have NEVER sped in a low speed zone like that..
i have NEVER sped in a school zone....

i think the problem is that people think they CAN handle it...
when they can't...

it just hurts me to think that my child might walk down that road one day :(

Re: Yellow sticker

Hey yep ive heard it all before too.My step dad was a leading constable for 25yrs..

My bfs car is lowered with king springs, but we are putting these air bag type ones (i dont know what they are he dees tho lol) in for when the baby comes, so the car will still be low but can b ajusted still. I just think its crap that ill have a car thats a standard v8 and i wont hoon but i cant drive it cos police say its only the p platers that hoon!! I really dont care, im not going to sell my car,, i will drive it.

Re: Yellow sticker

Sorry but ill have to disagree that the police should pick on the p platers.Yes some are hoons but not all, My bf has been full lisenced for 2yrs and has just stopped being a  hoon. All his mates still are hoons and they are full licensed. So its not always the p platers.

In a way i think these new laws were unfair about p platers not being able to drive v8s but learners can. My bf owns a v8 and can drive it cos his full licensed but heres me with a v8 that i wont be able to drive thanks to "some" heros..Ill have to say ive seen more spastic drivers who are full licensed then p platers.

Re: Yellow sticker

actually, me and Lawrence have said the same about full licensed drivers...
and we're from Perth, just like Libby24 :)

i only just got off my P plates at the end of February this year...
but i've seen full licensed people do some horrendous things...

most of them couldn't merge and wouldn't even indicate..
they would tailgate me because i, a p-plater, was going too slow ...
when i didnt see anything wrong with going the speed limit ....

by the way, i'm not on anybody's side here, just noting that P platers AND full licensed drivers have their dodgy and good drivers :)

when i was a P plater, i thought i drove A LOT better than some full licensed drivers...

and as for the cops picking on P platers, i've seen it happen...
My partner had a yellow sticker for almost 4 or 5 months (he had to go to the pits about 3 or 4 times) because of things he TRIED to change, but kept getting told it wasn't good enough...

in the end, the only reason he got it taken off was because they felt BAD that he had the yellow sticker for so long...

oh, and my brother even told me that the cops would only target him if he had his P plates up...
if he didn't have them up, no problems...

just wanted to share my experiences, thats all :)

and they know exactly how much the police target imports...

i was planning to buy an import a while back, but that doesn't make me a hoon...
