We're moving!

Comment Published at 17:5817:5818 comments18 comments51 Visits51 VisitsReport

Just as I am adjusting lo life in the US hubby's work is forcing a move to Korea! We thought at first it would be just him going, but we just found out that JB and myself are authorised to accompany him! It is great news that we can stay together as a family, just hoping we can all adjust well!

We still have just over two months before we move, but breaking it down I am sure it will not be enough time! We know at this stage we will be there for at least 2 years.

I guess I better start learning the language!!!

OMG!  Korea!  What a beautiful part of the world you will be going to, so I am told.  Hope the move goes smoothly and that you can pick the language up quickly, but I'm sure you will!

Re: We're moving!

Wow.. that's a real sea change isn't it - moving from the USA to Korea! Fortunately for you, the Korean language is made up of an alphabet, which will hopefully make it easier for you to learn.

Are you going to be based in Seoul? Have you ever visited Korea before?

There are probably a lot of ex-pats in Korea, so hopefully you can mingle with them so the culture shock is less.

Good luck with the move! Hope everyone adjusts well!

Re: We're moving!

Thanks Angie

This is my first time in Korea, and so far we are going to be living in the centre of Seoul. There is a large ex-pat and international area with English speaking schools and, from what I understand, a lot of stay home parents and things to do with children so here's hoping we will be able to get out and socialise!

A friend of mine is Korean and has told me the alphabet has 13 letters.. in theory that should be easy ?!? I am just not very good at languages, especially those that use characers so it will be kinda hard going at first!

Lorna, that sounds so exciting Korea, we will have to start a countdown for you also. I have never been to Korea but lived in Singapore for 12 months and love it so much and have been back a few times since leaving there.....I think all asia is beautiful, different culture, beautiful food, friendly people and stunning scenery.

That wish of your's  to go to Bora Bora, might come true now, i so hope so.

Love Janice xxxxx

Re: We're moving!

Oh Lorna!  Korea...wow.  But at least you get to go.  I am happy for you on that note.  And from what I know, living overseas with the US military is not too bad.  You can live on base and be surrounded by what you know, or even if you choose, live in the community.  What a great experience!  And you are much closer to Australia if you choose to come for a holiday.

Oh, thanks for the gift, but I accientally hit reject (new laptop buttons very sensitive) and i don't know how to fix it.  And, my minti mail isn't working so I couldn't email you to let you know.  So sorry I am putting it in here.

Bon Voyage!

Ooooh Lorna, how exciting, JB will be a well travelled little man before he even starts school. I wish you all the best, and just a little envy here, though not the packing up and moving bit,LOL. Two months is not long, wow ,a blink and you will be there. Oh please do share some photos with us when you arrive and are settled.

Re: We're moving!

Wow Lorna, that is a big move out of left field... Gosh, it is going to be an amazing life experience, I hear that Korea is a very beautiful country, and the culture will be a bit of a shock, but I am sure you are up to it.  Best wishes getting ready and I can't wait to hear all about it.
