CJ's Playland Burgess Hill Sussex - An Honest review - Updated with Photos!

Comment Published at 12:1012:1020 comments20 comments132 Visits132 VisitsReport

First appearances caused me to think that CJ's was going to be tatty and run down, I was later to be proved right.
Whilst my 3 year old daughter was playing in the Under 5's area she was hit in the face with a large mat by a child who was certainly over the age of 5 and unsupervised. On closer inspection (after calming my daughter down) this mat was only padded on one side on the other side it was MDF with staples sticking out (I took photos on my phone)this was the side that had hit Amy in the face, I went to the reception area which was manned by a teenager and asked if there was supposed to be a member of staff supervising the under 5 area I was told no that it was down to a parent or guardian to supervise the children so I told him what had happened and was told there was nothing they could do. I asked for their accident book to be told that he didn't know where it was, I asked for the manager to be told he was busy so I went to the cafe to find another member of staff who found the manager who was very rude and said there was no need for the incident to go in the accident book as it was a public place! On leaving I insisted on it being put in the accident book and also asked for their public liability insurance to be told that because I wasn't an "official" person I was not able to see it.
The toilets were dirty and the play equipment was torn and taped in places and could really do with a good clean. In short this place was unsafe and I will not be returning.

This is a copied from my own comment left at Netmums where it turns out there has been other negative reviews.

http://www.netmums.com/listings/PLACES//56/Soft+Play//

This is the board that Amy was hit in the face with by a much older child in the "Under 5's Area" at CJ's Playland Burgess Hill.

This is another board which was left laying around at CJ's playland, there were numerous boards like this that were able to be picked up and thrown around.

These are the ladies toilets at CJ' s playland, ( I am told the mens were worse!) The plastic balls you see beside the toilet are from the ball pit and were picked up amd promptly put back in the ball pit without being washed (personally I would have thrown them away)

OMG . . .

It's not aplace that I would stay at, its filthy and judging by the boards lying about and the toilet the staff really don't seem to care. I hope that don't sell food here as I'd hate to see how its been handled . .   I hope your little one is okay . .

Cheers Kellz

Hold on to your hat Kellz! They do sell food here but fortunately we had the good judgement to eat else where!

EWWW

Thank goodness that you had the sense to eat elswhere, heaven knows what you may caught from their food . .  It amazes me how places get to stay open when their hygene is so  very poor . . . .

I have shared your story with a few friends that I have living in  your neck of the woods . .  It's certainly scary stuff.

Good grief, what a filthy grot fest... I don't think I'd have stayed more than long enough to give it a cursory glance and leave.  It's great that you have taken the photos and let every one know about your terrible experience and the total lack of care or consideration that you received there.

This is horrible, don't blame you in the least for wanting this reported in their accident book....after looking at the photo's you took, I would think your concerns would be ones for the "Health & Safety Act"

Who wants their children going to a unsafe and dirty place and with supervision also...anything could happen as you have just shown.

Do hope you can take this further.

Kindest Regards Janice.

P.S. Hope your daughter is alright?

OMG that is terrible! I can't believe how some kids carry on, honestly. Bullying is just not on and childcarers not protecting kids...well that just stinks!

Re the tummy touching in your previous blog- that happened to me ALL THE TIME. It was so wierd. I'm not a hugely touchy feely person myself so I must admit I felt a tad confronted. People were doing it to me like every day- esp toward the end. Mind you, I was a bridesmaid at a wedding when I was 8 months preggo so that may have been asking for it a little, bein gin the spotlight and all but really...would anyone even DREAM of touching a non pregnant person on the tummy when it is so close to a persons...ahem...privates? Nuh uh!

Well done for all the action you have taken. That place has such a bad attitude. Dont they realise you could sue them? How is Amy now? What did the GP say?

Gp checked out Amy's nose to make sure it wasn't broken and her mouth and teeth, she is fine now some of the swelling has gone down, I am now just waiting to hear back from CJs (I'm not holdng my breath) and the local council hopefully our local Health and safety executive will also get in touch.

omg that is sick..
and for them to pick up those balls, and put them back into the pit, IS DISGUSTING !!

what has happened to places where people cater for kids, but actually LOOK AFTER THEM PROPERLY??!!

i really hope Amy is ok..
i read ur comments below and it sounds like she's been quite traumatised by the whole thing.. poor little girl :(

i honestly hope for your sake, that the complaint gets somewhere..
cuz kids should not be playing in those conditions !!!!!!!

good on ya for sticking up for what you believe in !!!!!!!!!!

I contacted the local councils Health & Safety department this morning and I have to put my complaint into writing and include the photos I took. The person I spoke to was very helpful and didn't seemed that surprised when I told him where this softplay was, I got the feeling I am one of many who have complained about this place.

So sorry to hear about the incident with Amy and I do hope she is ok. I'm certain that the health and safety will be interested to hear from you. In this day and age I am sure a play place for children should be clean and equipment kept in good condition.

Hope Amy will be ok and I'm not surprised that you will not be going back there

Love Pauline

Re: CJ's Playland Burgess Hill Sussex - An Honest review

Amy was very dramatised and refused to go back in and play,, she has a fat lip and a bruised nose. I'm going to have to watch her all night to make sure there is no vomiting or dizziness and I'm taking her to the GP tomorrow to be checked out.

I am also making a complaint in writing although I feel the manager won't do anything so I am going to send a copy to the local council 's health & safety department with the photo's I took of the board and the toilets.

File your concern with the management there, also get the corp headquaters mailing address and send them the pictures, along with what happened.

Remember a picture is worth a 1,000 words, enough said.

Always watch out for your family, cause no one else will.
