| Jacob has fun in the pool |
I am 56 and the mother of two. My eldest is my beautiful daughter who has recently married the man of her dreams. Thanks God for that! I was worried she'd end up with some half baked drop out. She almost did, until the grey matter kicked in and she began to realise he wasn't the man for her. I was praying like mad at the time! Most young people I meet today are having all sorts of troubles in their partnerships which scares me off from getting involved again myself! That's okay as my son takes up a lot of my time. He's ten and has Down syndrome. His name is Jacob and I adore him. I have been his sole carer since he was born and I find it difficult to leave him for anymore than a couple of hours. I suffer from separation anxiety which is silly, but I don't know how to get around it. I worry about him so much when I'm not there. I write for the Down Syndrome Society of SA, co-ordinating and editing their magazine. I love the work, but the government have threatened to cut the funding of 9 non-government agencies and the DSSSA is one of them. Someone recently asked me what I'd like to achieve before I die, and I answered that I'd like to become Prime Minister so that I can sack Jay Weatherill. LOL! They don't realise just how much support these agencies offer families. Without them the government is going to be swamped with people seeking professional help and there just won't be any. Even Anglican Community Care are on the hit list. Along with another 7 including Arthritis Foundation, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Deaf SA, Arthritis Foundation, Disability Information Resource Centre, Brain Injury ...

Boy I can't believe that my daughter has had another baby so soon after giving birth to her first. The second one came so fast (5 hours from start to finish) that none of us had time to really prepare. The baby was early by a few days. He came on the 13th of August and was a healthy 6lb 12oz. She really wanted an epidural but it was way too late for that. The funniest thing happened during the birth. There were two nurses, my son, myself and her husband in the room as well as a doctor. In the middle of a contraction she stopped dead, pointed at the doctor who was an anaethetist, a young Vietnamese man, (he was standing by with some Sodium Pentethal for pain relief during the contractions) and said to him, "I've seen you before...I know I've seen you." Then after a short pause she continued, "I know where I've seen you! Have you ever been in the Wiggles?" to which he replied, "Yes, I fill in during my lunch break." There whole room roared with laughter. The funny thing is that to this day she still maintains that she has seen him in the Wiggles! Well everyone, take care until I visit again. What with the new baby, the 1 year old, my son, the property, the magazine, the business and taking my son-in-law to work everyday at 6.30am, I doubt it will be anytime soon! |

I have been so busy. No time At ALL! My daughter is having her second baby next month...Yes, you read correctly. Now you know what I mean by no time. Zaine is turning one this month and boy is he a handful. I wish I could get here more often but since his birth, it's been impossible. I can just imagine how much harder it will be when the second one arrives. Too close!
I haven't forgotten you. I'm just plum tucked out. And if I don't reply to any 'tagged' offers that may have come from anyone on this site, now you know why! I replied to one to see what on earth it was, but that's about it.
Spring will be here soon. It's hard to get things done around the farm in winter. Keep warm and love to all.

It was so lovely to return here and find beautiful images from my new friends. Thanks to all! I have had a busy time over the past week. I am delighted to announce the arrival of my first grandchild. His name is Zaine and he was just over 4lb. Tiny little boy. The birth was very difficult. I can hear some of you laughing at that comment. Never the less I can't imagine ever going through something like that. Both of mine were by C-section. Apparently my daughter is the first female of a female in the bloodline to have a natural uncomplicated birth. She even had the baby on the due date. It was a text book pregnancy. The scene to me however, was more like one from a horror movie where they torture people. I'm not kidding. She had no pain relief at all. The hospital said it wouldn't do any good so they didn't offer it even though she was repeating the word, please, over and over again. I could see the terror and fear in her eyes as she looked to me for comfort but all I could do was cry. Fortunately it must have had a positive effect. She yelled at me to stop crying and then she started to focus more on the coaching from the mid-wife. She hated seeing me upset, she told me after. Her husband was supporting her by saying, "Come on, you can do it. Push!" God. It took her 39 hours from start to finish. I feel very sorry for any Mums out there who have had to endure anything like that. In future, if any man tries to tell me how hard his day has been, I'm gonna' slap him. |

Wouldn't it be funny if my daughter's baby comes today? Thanks to all my new friends for welcoming me here. I really would like to learn how to put up those pretty pictures! Maybe someone can give me a hint? God bless you and your darlings. Have a wonderful weekend. And remember...
Time is like a river. We cannot touch the same water twice because the flow that has passed will never pass again. Relish in the moment! Breathe it in.....especially when it comes to your children. |
