Personal: Day at Red Bull Air Race

Comment Published at 05:1305:1315 comments15 comments240 Visits240 VisitsReport
We had a great day at the Red Bull Air Race event today.

It is a world event and its last race was held in Perth! (i know - i cant believe it either... seems people are learning that we live in the best city in the world )

Here are some photos.

Here we are arriving (it took forever to find a parking spot - quiet stressful)...

Pre-race entertainment...

More pre-race entertainment...

One of the planes in the race flying through the pontoons...

The trip home (unfortunately lots of traffic jams but Codi was a star, very very patient). Here is Codi in the car with his favourtite toy Bobby Car sitting next to him (travels where ever he goes at the moment)...

Would love to go to one
The closest thing to that in Melbourne is the air show at Avalon next year.
I am looking forward to it.

Parking
We went too, even though I was sick, ha ha!
I'd checked out the website beforehand, so we drove straight to Taylor Reserve/McCallum Park where you could park for $5 that went to Rotary. There was heaps of space still at 11.15am. BUT, it was quite a long walk to the middle of the action (though, we didn't have to go to the middle, we could have stopped earlier, but we were meeting friends).
I still do agree though that they should organise stuff better, there was only a smallish sign pointing off Canning Hwy towards the parking.

Parking
i think that's where we ended up.
we also checked out the site for parking before we left... but because we were entering south perth from the freeway it took us forever.
we should have approached from canning highway through fremantle... oh well - if we go next time we will be more experienced.

Parking
Ah right! Yes, I think we had lots of luck with the traffic, and we came from the southeast along Albany Highway. And I had the ubd in front of me, so was getting all the smaller roads! :D

Thanks for sharing the photos. We missed the last day of Red Bulls. We did some passed our place though. Well, at least the kids and I went to the first day.

we missed the first couple of days.
i nearly gave up on parking and came home... but we persisted and finally found some after about an hour of driving around.... extremely frustrating. i think the council did a lousy job of providing parking.
we wont be going next year, but it was worth seeing once.

I read the news the traffic was chaos. Oh well, next year, I might go for the first day again. And for the last big day, might just take the bikes. Easy access.

My mum, brother and his family went. They caught the train into town and then caught a bus to the race. They had a great time without parking hassles and did some Christmas shopping in town on their way home.
