Voting Sprees

Comment Published at 11:1111:116 comments6 comments71 Visits71 VisitsReport
Rachel just a few hours ago blogged about what we have decided to do about "voting sprees".

I have copied her blog post below, so you can also read it here...

If you want the short version it is... don't do it, if you do it you will be warned, if you do it again your account will be deleted. We want Minti to be a friendly place where members don't feel as though they are being targeted.

Here is the long version...

It has come to our attention that some members are going on "voting sprees".

The Co-Founders of Minti have had a meeting regarding "voting sprees". We have come to the conclusion that voting sprees show a disdain for the Minti system and we consider it a form of "gaming the system" and a breach of our Terms of Service.

We have issued warnings to members that we are aware have conducted a voting spree. The warning is "if you do it (a voting spree) any more we will be forced to delete your Minti account".

If we find others doing it we will also issue them with the same warning.

We are improving our system to prevent such behaviour but in the interim we will take manual steps to crack down on very swift voting.

If you have a concern with the Minti approach I would appreciate you write me (or Clay or Matthew).

Re: Voting Sprees
This is brilliant and hopefully the end of it.  Afterall it only takes a second to leave your vote after reading a piece of advice.  If there's no time to comment go back and do that at another date. Good job!  Julie.

Re: Voting Sprees
Good Morning (or is it good evening), well I am glad that you recognise that this has become an issue, as I felt compelled to remove most of my advice - I just got sick of it.  Sick of every comment on my advice being voted down as well, and tired of people who weren't affected complaining about it.  Yes, anyone who cares about their effort does have an idea about how many votes they have what the average ranking on their advice is, and the rest.

Since I work in sales and customer service, I am used to having targets and KPI's.  I had my own personal ones, and I do constantly edit my advice.  If it is voted to a 4 on it's own merit - then so be it, I can rewrite it.  When it is constantly voted lower and lower and after months over 4.9 starts slipping down over 2 weeks due to target voting sprees, I did find that unacceptable.

I am so pleased that you have chosen this path of action, it shows that you do care about the site members, and that you are willing to grow and evolve as the need arises.  To me that is fulfilling you duty of care, and very smart business practice.  I may even feel confident enough to re-torture everyone with some more advice!

Cheers, Rachel, Matthew & Clay - Lui

Re: Voting Sprees

Oh, but I like being targetted! If they're picking on me they're leaving everyone else alone. LOL

No probs, I've gone and deleted or edited everything I can find and access that I've written in regards to voting sprees or how to do them (as i said, that I can access - you might want to look back at anything I wrote as Wendigo that's still floating around since I can't access that now) so as to not encourage anyone else, and I've spread the word around a bit more.

Now I just have to find something else to do when I don't feel like writing and typing. Any suggestions? I know! I'll get a life! LOL

Re: Voting Sprees

Actually I figured it out, I'll go on mass sprees of inviting members to my friends list and into the Bulletin Board group instead. LOL

But meant to mention, hey, that's great to hear. Thanks for getting on top of a problem that was upsetting so many people. Well done. Despite my sarcastic humour - which doesn't always come across properly in writing - I do appreciate what you've done here. hence why I did what I could to spread the word around - and will continue to do so.
