Mother Teresa compliment

Comment Published at 17:2717:2713 comments13 comments88 Visits88 VisitsReport

I have noticed that the Mother Teresa compliment is not handed out that often. Not saying that it should, just something I have noticed.

It was designed to signify the ultimate carer of the less fortunate.

Here is some back ground on Mother Teresa (I just had a quick read to get myself up to speed).

Re: Mother Teresa compliment

I don't believe in the Royal Family but I wouldn't have any problem giving somebody a "Lady Di" and I'm not a Tibetan monk but I wouldn't have a problem giving out a "Dali Lama" either. Come to think of if I wasn't a South African the last time I looked but I wouldn't have an issue giving somebody a "Nelson Mandela". I think we shouldn't take these compliments too literally, they are a bit of fun and intended to brighten up somebody's day through associatied meaning. If they were intended to be more literal they'd have only had 2 compliments an "Angelina Jolie" and a "Brad Pitt"

Re: Mother Teresa compliment

Some very interesting responses to your blog Clay... I still think the Mother Teresa 'different' and yes, like Rue said - what's with Sugar Daddy - that is a strange compliment to pay someone LOL!

Re: Mother Teresa compliment

I have to say that I was a bit hesitant in giving it out as I didn't want to offend anyone as for some it could offend their Religious views. Maybe a replacement icon could be a Mother Hen......a mother hen is someone who is always worried and concerned about everyone but themselves........just a thought.

Re: Mother Teresa compliment

For me - she was just an amazing, generous and caring woman and I would never associate myself with someone that unselfish, uncomplaining and giving, so I would be surprised if someone sent it to me.  I think most of us would feel uncomfortable being associated with someone so saintly - most of us just are not that perfect - no offence intended.  It just didn't feel right to send it to my friends - though they are caring, giving, generous people.  Hope that makes sense!

Re: Mother Teresa compliment

Though not religous, I would be careful about handing it out, religion being a touchy subject for some. Mother Teresa is considered a Saint by some, a good woman by others, and to be given status as a compliment on a website may seem irreverent to those  who feel she is a part of their belief system. For others she is part of a belief system that brought hearache and fear. Religion is a very personal thing, and could lead to some unintended upset. I was given a Mother Teresa, and so am not that sort of kindly, giving person. I accepted the compliment in the spirit it was sent, but felt a little wierd over it, humbled but wrong footed if you get my meaning.. However that has to do with my past and upbringing.

I was brought up in a society where divisions of faith were acute and tragic and where life was lost in the name of religion. Calvanist Vs Catholicism, it was not pretty and had nothing to do with faith, but one thing I learned very quickly was to respect others beliefs and not take them lightly. Perhaps the Mother Teresa could be replaced with something with a less emotive conotation.

Just a thought or two. Luv,Winnie.xxxx

Re: Mother Teresa compliment

I would be careful who I gave it too. Very selfless and giving people. In my mind anyway.

Re: Mother Teresa compliment

im not religious, in fact im very anti-religious, so I dont give it out because it has religious meaning to me.

if someone were to give it to me i might actually get a bit insulted because my interpretation of it would be someone kinda 'goody 2 shoes' like... or like a saint.  and that aint me. lol.

i woudlnt try and start anything by it though, its just not one of my favourite comments.

You have a good point there. Im not religious either, and probably would be insulted a little aswell, but i think of it as someone thought of me as a good mum if that makes sense
