SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

Comment Published at 08:0508:0516 comments16 comments71 Visits71 VisitsReport

I am so scared right now, like usual i read things on the net and self diagnose myself and expect the worst!!

I did dancing from a very young age. Due to this i have big calf muscles and they have been so painful since being pregnant and i have killer cramps. Well since last night, my legs feel dead!! literally like they are dying!! I have this constant pain behind the knees and in the calf muscle, my ankes are pretty sore now too..

So i look up on the net what it could be and it says a clot, so i am shitting myself!!!!! Im to scared to even go to sleep, why is this happening to me. I know it mite just be pain from the extra weight im carrying and considering that im 35weeks im sure my body is very sore now but i cant stop thinking about deep vein thrombobis

I dont know whta to do, its 1am and im not gonna bother waking my bf, im not crying from the pain so its not that bad but its noticable. I feel better if im walking around but as soon as im resting its a constant pain.

I dont even think ill be able to see a doctor tomorrow, my bf is working and then as soon as he gets home i have to get my neices from school and look after them till my um picks them up.

Can anyone tell me if they have had this, was it ok, when is time to get medical attention?? Im going to cry im that scared.

Re: SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

The pain you are feeling is because of the pressure on your sciatic nerve.  I have it too, and it feels like my bum is being pinched from the inside.  Ok, so it is! lol.

The problem can be relieved with walking, especially up and down stairs.  Unfortunately, it is a big part of pregnancy and you will have to put up with it until bubs arrives.

DVT while dangerous, isn't likely as you are pretty active and rather on the scrawny side.  You would get other signs with it like referred pain in your head and chest.  You would also find that your feet are cold all the time because of restricted blood flow.

To ease the muscle cramps, increase the salt in your diet.  The increased blood volume that comes with pregnancy means that your regular salt intake is no longer enough to supply the muscles and rest of the body with what it needs.  I'm having the same issue here, but by adding salt to my veggies, I am getting less leg cramps.

Re: SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

Lol, im not much on the scrawny side anymore, i weigh 65kgs hahahaha..

With the dvt, i always have cold feet, i had it even before i was pregnant also ive been getting heart spasms, like my heart just starts racing for no reason.

My legs have been ok the last 2days, still sore but i got other pains and dnt notice my legs anymore. I odnt realy want to walk up and down stairs or really walk at all, im very sore and scared that will bring labour on.

Re: SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

your heart probably is racing and its not for no reason. remember your heart is doing more work with the extra strain being pregnant is on your body. its normal for your heart to be faster even when you are sitting doing nothing also the aches and pains are completely normal and will come and go until you deliver.

Re: SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

Hang in there Dannii.  It's all cause of your little boy.  Like DA said, your body changes so fast in the last month that its still trying to catch up even after the baby is born.  So the best thing for you is to rest, and have BF give you a leg massage and see if that helps.  And make sure you get lots of water, that can also cause you to cramp.  You can get dehydrated very easily, even if it's cold out cause of the baby and all the fluids you need now.  Take it easy, it's almost over.

Re: SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

Your not alone, I did this after I had my operation because my calves were sore. I went to the doctors twice too. Turns out it could have been the effects of the gas but I actually spent a really scary night thinking I could die, so I know how you feel. Felt a bit silly after but Kellzacar has an advice article as she has had it really bad too and she has survived it. Read it and admire the girl it is called am I a celebrity or something similar. Try to keep calm though, my leg pain turned out to be nothing but 2 members have been there before and reassured me too. Hope all goes well, Lynette xx

Re: SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

You need to stay away from self diagnosing because you will drive yourself insane.  DA is right, your body is changing so fast.  Relax and try to get to your doctor tomorrow or as someone else said ring the hospital when you are going to have your baby.

Re: SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

DA is onto it, nothing really extra to add but to say that if you when you are really worried about something you can call Nurses on call.  I have copied and pasted some into below for you about them. We have the same kinda thing here in QLD just a different number.

NURSE-ON-CALL is a telephone health line, providing Victorians with immediate, expert health information and advice 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Call 1300 60 60 24 for the cost of a local call from anywhere in Victoria. (Calls from mobile phones may be charged at a higher rate.)

Re: SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

Hey Dannii, hope your legs are better and not giving you too much hell. If you call the Maternity Ward at the hospital you are booked into to deliver at they will be more than happy to have a chat to you and let you know if you should be worried or not. Eddie got online the other day because i wasn't well and was convinced i was having a stroke, he wanted to take me to the hospital, silly man!  Take care, thinking of you

Maggie xoxo

Re: SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

DA said everything i would of said as well. No more net self diagnoses and thinking the worst! These last few weeks, all kinds of aches and pains in weird places are normal. Your body is now at its limits, so you're gonna feel all kinds of things. Breathe, relax and take it easy!

Hope msn lets ya back on, you know I'm always here for you. Minti or hotmail me anytime.

Loveya, Cath xx

Re: SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

Oh forgot to mention,, since you asked: When your feet start turning strange colours, like blue and purple, and you start feeling numbness in them like pins and needles, or you can't feel them at all, and getting up and moving about and warming your feet up all don't work, then it might be time to consider getting them checked out. A good test for blood circulation is to apply heavy pressure to the skin, if it rapidly goes back to it's normal colour you're okay. If it stays white and doesn't go back to it's normal colour, you have a problem. Bare in mind that getting your feet too cold can cause the same effect - which isn't really healthy but it goes away once you warm up properly.

Re: SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

lol DA now your gonna scare her even more... But Danni she does have a point and just like what everyone else said, try not to self diagnose and stress yourself out, every woman who has given birth her has been where you are, so your not alone, take care ok and get some rest...

Re: SCARED SHITLESS!!!!!

Relax! You don't have a blood clot. You might be starting to get a bit of fluid retention if your feet/ankles are swelling. That's no big deal unless it gets REALLY extreme or your blood pressure starts getting WAY too high. Your muscles are trying to deal with a heap of extra weight to carry around. Imagine you weren't pregnant and went to a gym and did weightlifting and pushed it a bit too hard, lifted too much for too long... it will make your muscles cramp, hurt, burn, and feel like hell. That is what your baby is doing to you. S/he's putting strain on your legs muscles, and everything else. Of course it's going to hurt!

Girl, you are very heavily pregnant. You're body is changing faster than you can keep up. Over these last few weeks you will get all sorts of strange pains, cramps, you'll get kicked in parts you didn't even know you had, body parts will feel like they're about to fall off you, and you will will end up so uncomfortable that going into labour will seem like a relief!

If you go sending yourself into a panic attack at every little thing by trying to self- diagnose stuff by reading stuff on the net you're going to end up giving birth in a damn psych ward! It is not healthy for your or the baby to be stressing like this at all!!! Sit down, have a cup of hot chocolate or whatever takes your fancy that will calm you down at bit, get your feet up, and remind yourself that thousands of women successfully give birth without problems every day, even without any medical intervention. If they can do it, so can you. It will all be just fine. Everything will be okay. Sit down and do some breathing exercises or something.

Chill, cheers, DA
