Some fun and not so fun firsts.

After 16 months of sniffle-free life, Arianna is experiencing her very first cold.  I'm not complaining.  It's great that she's been so healthy for so long.  I think we've been blessed.  But I must say, I don't like the consistently runny nose.  How do you teach a 16-month-old how to blow?   Thankfully, she doesn't mind having her nose wiped, at least not yet.  I'm also loving the, shall we say, icky fingers as Arianna discovers this new "substance" dripping out of her.

Another first today made me laugh out loud!  I was getting our lunch ready in the kitchen.  Arianna was in the living room playing.  All of a sudden she comes around the corner ... carrying her pants!  She's been having lots of fun pulling off her socks and then putting them back on, but this was a first for the pants.  I don't know how she got them off, but she was trying to put them back on, upside down.  I got a good giggle from that.

Arianna has begun playing with her doll, putting its soother into its mouth, taking off its hat and then asking Mommy to put it back on.  She has previously fed her sippy cup to her big stuffed bear, but until now sort of ignored her doll.  It's so much fun to see her playing develop.

Blow on your hand
A friend of mine taught her son the concept of blowing by first blowing on his hand with her nose and had him feel what it was like. Somehow, he was able to mimic her actions and would do that.  He may have been a little bit older, so mimicking for him was not a problem.  Your daugher may still be a little young, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Some fun and not so fun firsts.
hi!
My daughter's first cold was probably around the same time around 16 months. my boys had their first in the first six months. We have been dealing with cold and runny noses for the last two months. With my daughter going to preschool and going to play groups, cold are a never ending thing. As for teaching them how to blow their own nose, we haven't gotten there yet. I have been wiping my 3 kid's noses for the last 2 months.  Let me know  if you figure it out, i would love to know.....................lol   Best  of luck with  the first cold!
