Things like this make you grateful for what you have.

The son of my mom's cousin passed away this week.  He was 20 days shy of his 33rd birthday.  He had a wife and a son who is just a few months younger than Arianna.  I didn't know him too well, but I went with my brother and parents to the funeral anyway.  Jeff was the kind of guy who lived his faith with a servant attitude.  He was a big kid and loved to laugh.  He loved the outdoors and I remember being teased by him when I was younger and we were camping together with our families.  He had testicular cancer, but it wasn't the cancer that claimed his life.  He had a very rare reaction to the chemo drug he was receiving.  It attacked his lungs, scarring them so badly he would never breathe on his own again.  This is what took his life.  It seems so unfair.  We will never know why, but as his brother said at the memorial service yesterday, we trust that this kind of death is not God's will, but the affect of a sinful, fallen world.  And to God be the glory.  Maybe when we look back in 10 or 15 years we will see all the good that has come from Jeff's leaving us too soon.

I can't imagine what his wife is going through, his son, who will never really remember his dad.  It makes me grateful for my husband and children.

There was a fire in downtown Bowmanville this past week.  A number of businesses and apartments were destroyed.  It makes me grateful for my house and the things we have.

Another shift at GM (local automotive plant) was cut.  1,000 people lost their jobs and the trickle-down effect will cause 100s more in job losses.  It makes me grateful for my husband's job, where there is a shortage of pharmacists.  He could probably pick where he wanted to work.

I am so richly blessed.  Thank you, Lord, for showering me with your blessings.  May I never take them for granted!

That is so sad for the family he left behind.

I am also very thankful. Ever since I got married, it's one blessing after the other. Of course we've had some rough times, but they must be so inconsequential that I don't even remember them. Oh and my kids... no gift can top these 3. Sometimes I wonder what I have done to deserve such blessings.

I agree :)
There's always a reason why things happen...
And even though my grandpa's passing (almost 10 years ago) broke my heart and still breaks my heart, I still believe that there was a reason for it.. and that people can still live on, even when their physical body may not :)

My condolescenes go out to his wife and his son.. such a sad thing for a family to go through :(
*big big hugs*

Awww and that must have been awful for the people involved in those fires and the shift cuts...

It really does make us appreciate our lives and our loved ones..

That's why I believe, that no matter what pain you're going through, there is always someone worse off than you...
And if you can't live for yourself, then live for them :)

Thinking of you and your family,
Love Thuy xox

Iwas very touched by this blog as some years ago (1988) my nephew was taken away with canser too. He was alovely young man 25 yrs old, During his illness I wrote to S.A.S.R.A. a christian work for those in the Forces and he was visited by a worker who gave him some christian literature and we were so thrilled when we were told he had committed his life to the Lord Jesus. He had a short time in remission and ttold us  himself about his conversion. I am comforted by the fact we haven't lost him.We know where he has gone

That was so evident at Jeff's funeral as well.  I hadn't really seen him very much in the last several years and I only knew what he was like in his teen years when he rebelled against just about everything.  I was so glad to hear how involved he was in his church and how much he really did love Jesus.  I'll be looking forward to seeing him in heaven some day.  It's a wonderful comfort, isn't it?
