Baby Update

by dramamomComment Published at 17:0117:014 comments4 comments16 Visits16 VisitsReport
I had another doctor's appointment on Thursday and according to her, my little guy has dropped.  I'm glad that I don't have to worry about that anymore.  I was concerned about how much further he could go!  I continue to feel a lot of pressure and pain, although thankfully some days are worse than others.  I haven't gained any weight in two weeks, but my uterus has actually had a little growth spurt, strange.  And yes, I'm eating, a lot I thought.  I got the number for the lactation consultant at the hospital, so I get to meet with her before the baby is born.  I had a very difficult time nursing Arianna, ended up pumping for a while.  I don't think that will work this time around with Arianna.  I'm looking forward to meeting with her.
I also got to have a tour of the New Life Centre at the hospital before my appointment.  I'm so glad Chris works there, he can arrange all of that stuff so easily.  And they all know me as well.  Arianna got a little homemade bear that they give to the siblings.  She promptly named it "Doctor Bear".  The NLC is beautiful!  Everything that looks hospital-like is tucked away behind cupboard doors.  There's a TV with a VCR for my use.  All the rooms are private, with my own bathroom and shower!  I will stay in the same room for labour, delivery and as long as I'm there.
I'm really starting to look forward to having this baby, particularly since my sister-in-law had her baby a week ago.  We saw him for the first time yesterday and he is beautiful!  Can't wait to have my own!

They're here!

My mother-in-law and brother-in-law made it here safely and everything that I wanted to get done got done thanks to my wonderful hubby.  Bathrooms got cleaned (I did those) but he vacuumed and made up the beds and everything.  Stenciling will be put on hold until next week.  They're going to stay here until tomorrow morning.  Then BIL, Rob, has to go to Trenton to fly to Afganistan.  He'll be there for 2 months.  He's in the air force.  Mom is driving him there and then will go and visit family and friends.  She's planning to be back here for Labour Day (Sept. 3) or earlier if we need her.  Then she'll be here until Thanksgiving or Rob gets back to Canada, so at least until the second week of October!  She's great to have around and we're very glad she'll be here to help with the baby and with Arianna.  Chris will be off on parental leave so he can have a really nice visit with his mom.
Anyway, I'd better get Arianna out of her crib.  She's starting to complain.  And then I'll get to visit with Mom and Rob!

Ahhhh!

My mother-in-law and brother-in-law are coming on Wednesday and our house is a complete mess.  It's not too far from tidy, but it's not very clean right now, especially the bathrooms and there are boxes of baby clothes everywhere and the room where Mom will sleep is still a big painting mess (I have to finish stenciling which I can only do when Chris is home to watch Arianna.  The tapping of the paint brush woke her from her nap last time I tried that.)  I'm feeling the crunch and I don't have the energy to do much about it.  Ahhh!

Ultrasound Update

by dramamomComment Published at 17:0217:023 comments3 comments20 Visits20 VisitsReport
Our visit with the doctor on Thursday went well.  Arianna had a great time listening to "baby heart".  We received mediocre news about our ultrasound results.  It looks like our baby's kidney is still enlarged, but the radiologist who read the ultrasound that since there were so many "things" to look through in order to even see the kidney and that it was such a small measurement they can't be sure.  So neither he nor our doctor are concerned.  It will basically be up to us whether the baby will get an ultrasound after birth.  I'm not really sure if this small enlargement will have any affect on his health.  The doctor didn't say.  I'm pretty sure that I will ask for the ultrasound.  I don't like maybes when it comes to my children.  I want to know if his kidney is enlarged or not.  I'm praying that it's not.
The doctor also told me that my uterus, although measuring the correct size, is sitting a good 3cm lower than most other women.  That explains why I'm getting so much discomfort and pain in my pelvis.  Not fun!  I'm hoping the baby doesn't engage or drop until labour starts.  I don't think I could handle him any lower!
There's my quick update.  Now I'm going to enjoy a quiet evening scrapbooking!

I may be crazy... and other thoughts. 2nd attempt

by dramamomComment Published at 11:5311:531 comments1 comments10 Visits10 VisitsReport
Okay, so I wrote a wonderful blog.  I guess I took too long because when I saved it, I got logged out and lost the whole thing!  This is my attempt at remembering what it was I wrote the first time around.  Of course, it's been a couple hours and I can't promise that my pregnancy brain hasn't let all my good ideas just seep out.
I may be crazy because during the hottest week of our summer so far, I haven't been sitting in our lovely air conditioned home.  No, I've been outside, exhausting myself.  It's been for very good reasons, though.
On Monday, before it got really hot, I traveled for a total of 6 hours to visit family at a cottage up north.  We, Arianna and I, left at 8am and didn't get home until 11pm.  It was a very nice trip since most of it was taken with my sister-in-law and her two boys.  It was great, all three car seats snuggled in as close as possible in the back seat, the two of us chatting up a storm in the front.  We had a wonderful day.  I was able to connect with cousins I usually only get to see twice a year.  They all exclaimed over Arianna's curls and how adorable she was.  She had a hoot playing in the water all afternoon.  And thankfully, the humidity that was plaguing us back home hadn't hit up north; the day was beautiful.
Yesterday was a different matter.  We, again just Arianna and I, went to the Peterborough Zoo, about an hour from home, with our playgroup.  My sister-in-law met us there, so we got to spend the day with them again.  Unfortunately, the heat and humidity was in full swing (34 degrees C with a humidex of 40) and we were so very hot!  It didn't seem to phase Arianna at all.  She had a blast, except when she got splashed by some big kids at the splash pad.  And I got to play with my new camera that arrived in the mail on Tuesday.  All the walking and standing around did a number on me, though.  I was so sore that I actually took a bath on the hottest day of the summer!
This afternoon we get to go to the doctor again to hear the results of our ultrasound and watch Arianna get excited about listening to the baby's heart.  I love how she loves going!  The heat and humidity are still very high, but thankfully the car and doctor's office will be nice and cool.
I found out yesterday that one of our playgroup mom's mother-in-law passed away and that the funeral is tomorrow.  I feel like I should go, except that I don't have anything appropriate to wear, which wouldn't be a problem if I wasn't pregnant.  I'd also have to find someone to watch Arianna.  Maybe those reasons are a little superficial and selfish, but that's how I'm feeling.  The second problem could probably be solved easily, but I really don't have anything to wear and I'm not going to spend money on clothing to wear for one morning.  I don't know her family at all and I'm afraid that I would offend them with the outfits I do have.
Anyway, I've rambled on long enough.  That's all for now.  I'll post about how things go at the doctor's office later.
