Premature Labour, Bed rest and waiting...

Comment Published at 00:1800:1813 comments13 comments255 Visits255 VisitsReport

So its been an awful week. On tuesday night I felt exhausted, I sat down and whoosh... waters came out, about a mug full. Enough for me to panic. We went straight to the hospital, they confirmed I had leaked my waters. I was kept it, told the next 24 hours was crucial to prevent the onset on labour. I was 27 weeks.... So I got given steroid injections to mature the babies lungs, and super strength antibiotics to stave off infection. I got released yesterday on bed rest. I couldnt sleep at the hospital was getting so stressed out.... and I missed my baby. Ruby has never been away from me before... I missed her so much, shes coping well but its traumatic. Basically Im back in hosp for daily checks to see how things are going. Prognosis... well its likely Im going to have an early baby and it just depends how long I hold on for now. Last night I got a couple of contractions but they were an hour apart and appear to have gone overnight... Im just praying they dont come back... Im 28 weeks now. Its too early. I know that great advances have been made but its still too early. Ruby was five weeks early.... with placental abruption. I dont think my body likes pregnancy very much. Im just glad for every 24 hours that passes. Although I really feel like its going to happen soon. Can only pray...

Hi there matey, I know the chances of you reading this right now are slim, just wanted to let you know that we are thinking of you and wishing you and your new baby all the very best.  I know it must be a very difficult and scary time for you, however have faith, and focus on the best outcome, as you say, each 24hrs is another step in the right direction.  I am sure Ruby will be ok, kids are surprisingly insightful and can step up to the plate when you really need it.  Take care, VERY best wishes - Lui & Jaydee xox

I feel for you. Hang in there and think a lot of positive thoughts. Everyday you keep your baby in is good for them.

Have a picture (or a lot!) of your child with you in your purse in case your doctor/hospital trips run longer than usual.

Oh Em, I hope that you can hold on a bit more.  It's wonderful they gave the steroids, but I really think you should be in the hospital.  The steroids really help alot, and if you do start early labor, get back to the hosp asap.  I don't know if they the Mag drip, but that can really keep you from going into labour early.  It held me off for a week, which is what my doc wanted, and then I was allowed to go back into labor, which I did right after they took me off the meds.  Just be very careful and rest, rest, rest!!!!  I'm here if you need anything, just email me...I've been praying for you and I know you are in good hands.

Lots of love,

Letti

Dear Emma, so sorry i've missed what has been happening, it sounds like you are in a delicate situation....my thoughts & prayers are with you and i'm sending you all the positive vibes for TIME to be on your side.

I can understand you being stressed about not being with Ruby as you two have never been apart....i'm certain she will be fine, the young bounce back very quickly. For just a little while you need to think about yourself and bub and get as much bed rest as possible....sounds like the hospital is keeping a close eye on you, which is great.

I so hope you have someone with you also...sweetie i only wish  the very best for you....hang in there.

Warmest hugs Janice xxxxx

Re: Premature Labour, Bed rest and waiting...

Hun, you really need to concentrate on resting as much as possible and reducing how much you are stressing about it.  The more you stress the more likely it is you will go into premature labour.  No lifting anything!  When resting, have pillows under your bottom, this will help to take the pressure off your cervix.  When you cough, sneeze or laugh, try to be sitting down and lean backwards. It will take more pressure off.  If you can't be sitting, then lean backwards while standing, same effect.

I really hope you can keep bubs in for longer, but what will be will be.

Rest as much as you can, that's not just doctors orders either.

Re: Premature Labour, Bed rest and waiting...

Thanks Arna, I ended up in hospital again on monday, started having contractions, luckily they stopped after a few hours and I hadnt started to dialate yet. So back out on bed rest, Ive had some great friends helping out and my parents too. Consultant told me to expect baby within 2 weeks... but every 24 hours is worth it. Thanks for all your support, love em x
