"Maybe if I act like that, that guy will call me back
Porno Paparazzi girl, I don't wanna be a stupid girl
Baby if I act like that, flipping my blond hair back
Push up my bra like that, I don't wanna be a stupid girl
Disease's growing, it's epidemic
I'm scared that there ain't a cure
The world believes it and I'm going crazy
I cannot take any more
I'm so glad that I'll never fit in
That will never be me
Outcasts and girls with ambition
That's what I wanna see"
Pink Stupid Girls
Why can't people think for themselves? Nothing annoys me more than people conforming to societal views without thinking things through for themselves to decide the best course of action. Is it easier to conform than to think for yourself? Is it wrong to stand up and be counted? It's those who stand up for what they think even if it goes against the norm that are so quickly shot down.
I want to teach my kids to stand up for what they believe in, and to make moral decisions based on the best interest of themselves, society, and the environment even if it goes against what people do in their everyday lives. I watched her once, a child who is a friend of her, one of her best friends, has developed this attitude (at the age of 4 sadly) that she's superior to everyone around her and talks down to others. This is what her mother does also. My child simply walked away from her when she pulled attitude rather than try to keep up with her to be "popular" in the room. She found another friend who would treat her as an equal, just as she treats other people, as equals. I was very proud of her for not coming into discussions or being led by the other child's behaviours.
This is what will form a stronger society, if we teach our children right from wrong, if we practice what we preach, and if we take the time to sit down and really talk about things with our children in details, but in a manner they will understand. I've given her the tools she needs to make her own decisions and the knowledge she needs to make moral decisions. If we walk past someone in the streets who is starving, but with cigarettes, she already knows that it's a better idea to give that person food if we have it rather than money. But she knows it's still in the best interest of everyone that we help the person out. This is what I will teach the rest of my children also.
I'd rather be shot down for making the right decisions than to be accepted by my peers for going along with the crowd. |
