Yesterday we had a close call with a tree in our back yard. It was windy and hailing and the boys were screamimg with excitment at the leaves and hailstones. We were planning to go Lilydale Lake to fly kites in the wind but the hail changed our mind so I went down the back yard to put the kites in the shed. When I returned from the shed my neighbour was leaning over the fence pointing to a big Wattle tree which had snapped in half right above the shed I was in.
The back yard was a danger zone as the top of the tree was poised to fall in any direction including on top of the shed. I just thanked my lucky stars a lemon scented gum stopped the tree from falling on the shed while I was in it.
From here you can see the top of the tree leaning against the gum. Underneath is the shed I was in as the tree broke. |
