UNKNOWN INTRUDER IN MY BACKYARD

Comment Published at 01:5101:519 comments9 comments59 Visits59 VisitsReport

A couple of nights ago I was down in the garage and I heard something move in the backyard. It sounded like somebody running away when they heard me. So I ran back inside and locked the door. I have noticed a lot of animal pooh lately in the backyard and so I have made sure to shut the side gate thinking it's the neighbour's dog.

Anyway this morning at 5.45 am I went to get a towel hanging on the side verandah and  there standing in the middle of my backyard was the 'unknown intruder'...... a Wallaby.

He went into that sort of cautious squatting position when he saw me and sat there for a while. I went back into the house, woke my 6 year old daughter and we spied on him from the back window.

He finally hopped away when I opened the window. He hopped straight over the back fence into the state forest which is behind us.  I don't know if he'll be back but think he's been visiting for a while. I have a nice thick couch lawn that he must really love.

Now I know where all the droppings are coming from. Next time I catch him out I will have to try and get a photo. And I dont think I'll bother planting any lettuce or spinach out the back either.

Re: UNKNOWN INTRUDER IN MY BACKYARD

What a groovy intruder to have, much better than the human kind.  I hope that you find somewhere to plant your veges that he can't get at ; )

How unfriendly of you running indoors and locking the door, haha! Poor little Wallaby, just wanted to pay you a visit....how cool was that.

Good idea not planting any lettuce or spinach, hehe!

Re: UNKNOWN INTRUDER IN MY BACKYARD

LOL scared of a cute, cuddly little wallaby, though I think he was terrified of me! It was very cool having him in the backyard right in town. Though we do have state forest at the back.

When I saw how cuddly he looked it reminded me of our trip to the Bunya Mountains a few years back. It was actually George's 3rd birthday and we will never forget it because he went up to a young kangaroo, a big joey or young adult and they both lay down and snuggled up together. We have photos! George remembers and he is 10 now.

So when i saw the wallaby I remembered and George and I shared that happy memory together.

I'm glad this poor scared little wallaby brought back some wonderful memories...animals have a very special knack of touching us.

They do love Banana's if you want him to come back.

Love Janice

so great to see oh so you are next to a forest. i'm so sure we would have either driven through or even stopped out your way on the way to janice's . we certainly saw some spectacular places both going and coming back.

wallaby you say. reminds me of janices place. we saw kangaroos too .  Australian bush certainly has lots of natural habitat and to see them in your backyard is fabulous

its great that you shared the special moment with your 6yr old daughter too . she would have been spellbound

Re: UNKNOWN INTRUDER IN MY BACKYARD

Yes, I remember Janice has a lot of wallabies visit her place.

I am lucky have the small pocket of forest behind me and from the front overlooks the ocean, though there is a block of flats and houses but the water is only a couple of hundred metres. We are pretty high though can see all the way to solitary island which is close to Woopi.

The wallaby was so cute and cuddly looking. It's always exciting to have an animal visit your backyard even if you do see them often.

Hope you come up again so we can meet up.

Wallabies are so cute. He had a nice thick winter coat.

9 kangaroos. How cool. I always get excited to see them even though there are so many around.
