STRESSFUL ARVO, KIDS STUCK AT SCHOOL

Comment Published at 00:2300:2310 comments10 comments56 Visits56 VisitsReport

Well this arvo I went pick kids up from bus and it didnt come, so after half an hour I went to get some fuel then asked another bus driver what was going on.

It's been raining here all day, but anyway Coffs Harbour has had flash floods and 3 of my kids (plus the rest of their school) are flooded in and cant get any vehicles in and out.

I was really stressed out just finding out what was going on cos the school phone and bus companies phone were busy for about half an hour.

But I finally got through and found out they are all safe and being cared for by the teachers.

So anyway all the kids are in the library watching DVD's and being served dinner at 6.30.

The school has over 1200 kids but I'm not sure if its the whole school stuck but I think it's all of them. All the teachers are stuck there with them.

The school website is posting updates every 1/2 hour. So I dont really know what will happen when the flooding subsides. We are 40 mins drive away from the school and the highway is blocked in other places.

Lucky for me as  my pc hasnt been working and it just happened to start up ok yesterday and today so I'm not turning it off in case it doesnt fire up again!

How worrying for you - at least they are safe, but I can understand your stress!  I'd be beside myself!

Hey Griz

I hope all is well your way and that the kids are fine. I guess the kids will be looking back and laughing how they had to stay and sleepover in school lol... luckily the teachers let them have the next day off... lol... i dont think they would want to wake up and then go straight back into the books

Take care

Jo

Griz  coming to drop in and see how your going and read this, must be worrying for you but at least they are safe. I'm sure the kids are thinking this is fun and having a ball. We are cut off this way also, Steve was in Coffs this afternoon and only got home in time before the roads were cut off.

Stay safe.

Love Janice xxxx

Re: STRESSFUL ARVO, KIDS STUCK AT SCHOOL

It was worrying for a while, but once it all sank in that they were ok and actually enjoying it I was fine and even laughing about it.

The worst was waiting for 2 buses that didnt come and not even knowing that they were still at school. So I was driving back and forth between the 2 stops, (with my tank on empty) thinking the worst.

I am so glad that they didnt even try to get them out at the last minute and I would have been so worried about them on the Pacific Hwy yesterday arvo.

Now I'm just waiting to find out how they can get home today!

Re: STRESSFUL ARVO, KIDS STUCK AT SCHOOL

lol, thats ok.  School has decided to keep them all for the night, only road is open to sawtell and to coffs cbd, but water is still over the road. So the primary are all been put to bed in their classrooms with their teacher in with them. Secondary are going to bed at 10pm School is cancelled for tomorrow, so I'm going to go to bed and worryabout how they will get home tomorrow LOL

Anyway I hope things are ok at your end. I'm in the Nambucca Valley and things are a bit wild, with lighning and wind and heavy falls on and off.

Who knows what will happen tomorrow! All the best. Thanks for your support

Yeah actually the updates I'm getting they are having a ball! Hosptality students have cooked for all the highschoolers and had a great time.

I guess I'm feeling much better aboiut it all, I waS just worried that they were going to try and send them home late at night on the bus if the waters went down but looks like they are stuck there for the night.

I am kinda having a good laugh about it though, all those teachers stuck there with the whole school overnight! Kinder to year 12. Ya gotta see the funny side.

Now I know! Sounds to me like you are doing it tough hermy. But it sounds like your kids are okay. They are probably having a great time, a huge sleepover party. You must have been scared out of your wits, but you can relax now knowing they are safe and fed, time for you to think about your comfort for the night. I live south of you on the coast, and it's raining here too, but nowhere near as bad as Coffs. Good luck - don't worry too much about your kids, I'm sure they will be fine.

Best wishes

Re: STRESSFUL ARVO, KIDS STUCK AT SCHOOL

Well it's after 7pm and the school is still flooded in. NOthing to do but sit and wait and read the college's website update every half hour.

Last one at 7pm said they are serving food between 6 - 8 pm and calling on the ses for more food and blankets if needed. No vehicles are allowed to enter or leave the college.

So looks like they might be stuck there over-night
