True Meaning of Christmas.

Comment Published at 20:0020:002 comments2 comments134 Visits134 VisitsReport

With Christmas just around the corner I thought I might share my thoughts on Christmas.  Christmas is about the birth of Jesus.  God gave us a gift (to save us) with his only son and therefore we now give presents just like God did.  SO where does Santa come in.  Well he was back in the 1800.  A minister called Nicholas.  He gave gifts to the poor.  One day he tried to say 3 young girls from prostitution by throwing them each a small sack full of money for doweries so that they were able to marry and not stay in prostitution.  He became a Saint for his good works and man took it from there by creating a red suit and all the bells and whistles to boot.

All of my children have grown up not believing in Santa but knowing the true meaning of Christmas.

So from My Family Merry Christmas and a very safe New Year.

wow !

That is something I have been wondering about ... (where did the Santa concept come from) .... My only baby boy just turned one in Oct  ... We recently visited my sis in law (his aunt) and she asked "Oh, have you visited Santa yet ? Did you get a picture on his lap?" I felt ashamed and I said, "No we did not ...." I thought I might make the "Santa" concept happen by saying santa brought your stocking .... the presents are from mommy and daddy in celebration of the birth of Jesus .... Gosh, as I type this I feel so very stupid ! I was having the thought that if my boy were denied the santa thing that he would be viewed as "abnormal" by his peers ... How did you deal with your children's friends advocating santa ? Another stupid musing, because if I teach my boy about Jesus, there is no need for the fables of santa, tooth fairy , easter bunny, etc. .... wow ! But as a side note : I would like to know how you made family traditions without the fairy tales ... I have some ideas, but it is hard for me to not conform to popular belief and it is hard for me not to follow those things we did as kids growing up .... Trick or Treating, Tooth Fairy, Easter Bunny, Santa, .... etc. How did you do it ? I think I need to learn my Bible better and make traditions from that ... Any specific ideas ?

Tooth Fairy: My kids have always grown up knowing we have left the money.  Easter Bunny, they also know we do it but we still have an egg hunt but they know we hide them first.  I don't go into all the fairy tales because I was heart broken when I learned they arent real and decided we as parents have the job to teach our children right from wron and how can we do that when we lie to them from birth ie: Santa, tooth fairy etc.

My children know the true meanings to all these things but they also know that they have to respect the opinion of other and to not spoil things for others.  they can however share the true meaning of christmas etc.

School and child care are aware of the things they can and can't do and respect that.

I was shopping with my 2 little boys and a lady behind the counter was asking what Santa was bringing them and they just looked at her blankly, I tried to shake my head at her but she didn't get it and had to tell her not to go there.  Santa wasn't real, she was very embaressed and apologised to me..

In a biblical term it is hard to live in a fallen world and still stick to your beliefs but Jesus was persecuted for his beliefs and so are we.  My answer is stick to what is right and true and if this is how you want to bring your children up then don't change your standars to suit the world change your standars to suit God.

I hope this helps and if you want any more advice on this please ask.
