ANZAC Day

Comment Published at 17:3617:366 comments6 comments21 Visits21 VisitsReport

Well, hubby and stepson were up quite early, 0430, to head to the dawn service.  Frankly, would have loved to have gone but it is just too early for Harrison.  They went to the service in Freo at Monument Hill.  Dean said it was a nice service and that it was packed.

Just wanted to draw attention to ANZAC Day.  I spent my first ANZAC Day in Deniliquin NSW.  It was 2001 when i was visiting Dean.  Dean was the guest speaker for the RSL.  It was an amazing experience for me.  We did a dinner at the RSL the night before Dean spoke at the dinner, the dawn service, breakfast, and then Dean spoke at the parade that day.  It was really cool.

Re: ANZAC Day

My parents were in the scouts when i was young. We went to the dawn service every year from when i was 5 to about 12. I remember they seemed very long but special. I was always told stories of my family who went to war. We would watch the parade every year as well.

now its my turn to make sure my kids understand Anzac Day and why its so important.

Its great that they went to the dawn service, it wont be long and you and Harrison will be able to go as well. I used to go and represent my school, but I havent been since I finished, We were thinking of going this year but decided Cailin is still a little young and perhaps next year depending on how the new bub goes!
Hope you enjoy your long weekend!

Re: ANZAC Day

I love Anzac day services - a few years ago I went and watched my pa march (he hadn't marched in years) and then went to the service in the hall with him & it was fantastic! When we lived in Bendigo we used to go to the army barracks with friends that were in the army reserves & spend the whole day there watching talking to the veterans & watching them play 2up - it was fantastic!

Re: ANZAC Day

Hi Annie,

We did to a dawn service at the war memorial in 2005.  Will be good to go again, maybe next year.

For adding a link, read this...if it doesn't help, I can try to reword it.
