Doing the Roomba Rumba (well, nearly...)

Comment Published at 15:2215:229 comments9 comments235 Visits235 VisitsReport

Well, got home from a shopping trip yesterday afternoon to find that the builders had signed for a package for me. Guess what - my super cool, super trendy Roomba! Nervously and excitedly opened the box to find a space-age disc with super cleaning  abilities. And a US plug. And no way to charge it.... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrgggggggggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh! (small foot stamping dance).

After phoning Dad (the man who knows all things usefull) looked online and found a "step down adapter" which will convert the UK power (240V) to US power (120 v). Why on earth do we not both work on the same power system? Now just have to wait for it to be delivered (hopefully Monday).

Fortunately, it did just have enough power to run around the kitchen for a few minutes, much to everyone's amusement - Leala was laughing like mad as it bumped in to her leg, although the cat was less pleased.... Must say that for a small thing, it did seem to do a good job. Now just have to get my adapter, charge the thing for 16 hours and then we will be raring to go! Luckily I hadn't expected it to arrive for ages yet, so I might just be able to cope until then! Thanks again to Minti - don't think I will be able to say that enough, and you would believe me if you had ever visited my house and seen the state of my floors! Not sure what I will call my new 'bot, but maybe Minti is a good name...

Roomba
How exciting that it arrived, but what a bummer that you didn't have the appropriate charger!  Hope you get it charged soon and let us know how it works.  Congrats again on that one Helen :)

Bitter Sweet
Wow and Oawh at the same time.  Atleast you got to give it a burl when you first got it , most things we get are one hundred percent flat on arival.  so it really dod a great job huh?  I have been a bit sceptical, I mean how much stuff can they really hold, they're very very small.  Emptying the vac bag is up there with picking up the dog poop, I hate them both.  HHmm names, lets see,  Mintba, Roomti, I know Andy as in Handy Andy the amazing Roombah from Minti.  Andy fa short .  Hope your adapter comes soon.  Don't they make any for any other countries?? I would have thought if they advertise in other countries they'd change the plug on them to suit and then you would have got one sent from the head office of the country you lived in.   Maybe I should write them some advice..hahahahaha, I've gone Minti- Mad.

Roomba Name
I purchased a cheap forot vacuume from Danoz Direct called the RoboMax sp we called it Rob. Sadly it lasted only 12 months convincing me to save up for a Roomba. I have seen them advertised at Dick Smith Electronics but they are $400 so I won't be buying one in the near future at least not while it is costing us $200 per month in creams for my youngests ezcema.

I have to say that I would never have bought one of these for myself and I am so glad it is the prize and not just a similar amount of money. The money would have been spent on the odd luxury and then gone towards bills, but now I get a cool new toy which also cleans the carpets! Sorry to hear about the expense for your boys' cream, but I did see you are getting some light at the end of the tunnel, now?

RE" Power adaptor
Yes - I ordered one for myself the other day, and have bought a power plug for $12 to convert from US to AUS. Can't wait to get it :)
