critters, critters everywhere!

Comment Published at 20:5520:5510 comments10 comments60 Visits60 VisitsReport

My 4 year old son is into critters lately, and being here at his Nana's and Papaw's there seems to be an endless supply. It's exciting for him, not so much for me. I am freaking out, but I am keeping it in check. I think so, anyway.

Here is Punky, the goldfish Curious George won at a Festival back in May.  I guess CG named in Punky because he looks like a punk with the black spot on the top of it's head, much like a mohawk? We'll never know. Punky has been so at home in his little tank he even plays with Curious George. Though he doesn't seem to be performing very well on this video.

We also now have a Grey tree frog. We've had one for several weeks and now we have a second one. We've been catching fireflies (something CG demands now every every evening!) tonight, when CG found it. Now Cricket (because he eats crickets) has a friend, Hopper. Curious George has a nack for naming his pets. lol

Here is Cricket hunting his cricket meal.

Re: critters, critters everywhere!

You are a good mummy! We have a tank full of tropical fish (which your comment on the video reminded me need a water change BADLY) but now we are coming under pressure to have something more cuddly! So far we have resisted DD1s pleas as I think I need to have some SPARE time and a slightly more ordered house before I try to look after something else too besides kids, but that has not stopped her capturing an ant and feeling it on jam in a jar with sand (it drowned in the jam by the end of the day) and today when we found some caterpillars in the garden she wanted to bring them in and turn them into butterflies! Myself, I used to collect snails and caterpillars, without any success in keeping them alive, much to my dad's pleasure (destroying pests for him effectively!).

The thing is, I am terrified of these creatures! So all the while, I have to fight the urge to run away... but that's not to say I haven't. lol

I'm hoping he doesn't start asking for more cuddly stuff!

My little girl would love this...she is into critters as well...atm it is land snails and butterflies...and we are on the lookout for caterpillars...But it is such a joy to see children enjoy nature..no matter what!

Have fun with the critters, I know your son will....

T.

My son is definitely loving it! He catches tons more frogs but right now we just keep the tree frogs.. or at least 2 of them.

Haaa, haaa!!!  Came over to see if you were around and how the clan was doing!  Good to know all is right and as it should be!  I never minded the critters but i didn't like going to get the crickets, didn't seem fair to them at all!  And the always got out!

That's true about the crickets. I find it a little weird that they get raised just to feed the others, but that's the circle of life, I guess.

I'm terrified of the critters, but since they are in cages I do ok. :) It's fun to watch the grey frogs hunt for the crickets.

I think it is wonderful how young ones have such a repore with critters.....I'm with CG all animals should have names, they all have their own personality like all humans.

Love the video's, though they keep stopping and starting.

Hope all is well with your family.

Love

He definitely one with nature. lol  He catches a lot of stuff. Thankfully, we have convinced him to let them go at the end of the day.
