done with thanksgiving and now we tackle christmas

Comment Published at 07:5407:5415 comments15 comments129 Visits129 VisitsReport

I had to pack for 3 little kids, my husband and myself to make the 4 hour drive to my husband's parents on Wednesday night in order to make it there for Thanksgiving the next day. Then we make it back late last night (the drive became 5 hours long because of rain and traffic). Before I left, I had to help draft MInti's weekly pic of the week which did not turn out perfect. I had to leave it up to matthew and clay to finish it since I became too busy packing.

While at the inlaws enjoying good food and enjoying family, I logged in on MInti. I'm a part-time Admin, but I take my duties seriously. Perhaps too seriously that I couldn't log on while on a holiday with family. It is truly a personality flaw. Since the short time that I stole from family to log on Minti, I find negativity. What a downer for my supposed 'family' time. Again, it's my own fault. I shouldn't have logged on.

Yesterday morning, when I found quiet time at my in-laws, I logged on again for 15 minutes. While on, I saw an announcement in the Q&A. I reported it for "not a question". Of course, I don't expect everyone to agree to vote it off. If I wanted to truly delete it, I could have deleted it myself without reporting it. But I like to uphold Clay and Matthew's vision of a 'self-governing' community, so I reported it. But what do you know.... I find highly vocal members. A matter of a simple click "yes" or "no" has to be turned to an opportunity for argument. What DOES it matter where things are in this site? Well, it matters because when others see announcements are OK in the Q&A, it is a very short time before new members follow suit. And pretty soon, the Q&A is back to what it once was when it was left alone - half questions, half announcements. Now, someone would say, "SO?" Well, those members who does nothing but frequent teh Q&A to lend their experience and wisdom, stop doing so.

But then there is a member that made such an assumption about me - that I'm bored! Bored? Oh, how I wish I had time to be bored. I am raising twins (almost 18 months) and a 3 1/2. I am facing a knee surgery by the end of the week. My husband's job is not so secure so in a spam of a few months, we may have to uproot our big family. In anticipation for the "what if" I'm trying to get our house cleaned up in case we need to sell it. Then I have the wonderful job of Admin-ing Minti part time. One would think it's an easy job, but not so. With all the friction between members (endless-tiring-psychologically draining part of the job), there are tasks behind the scenes. I answer tons of emails (I'm frequently behind). And keep in mind, this is a part-time job for this stay at home mom for 3 little kids. I am here more than I should be because I take this job seriously.  But with all this, I still manage to get snide remaks about being bored. Bored! Bored! Oh how I wish I was bored.

And then there are those who used to think I'm a good person (before I was an Admin) now think I'm the Wicked Witch of the West! Perhaps this kind of thinking is inevitable since I now have more "power" here Minti. But bare in mind, I still have bosses and I still want to keep the "self-governing" ideal here on Minti. So the 'power' that everyone thinks I have, I more than freely give and delegate to the community.

Oh, yeah.. and then I have my 18 month old twins, who are currently battling asthma. They have 3 different medications on their nebulizer that takes 25 minutes to finish and it's done 2x a day. That's 2 hours of my day, just sitting in front of them strapped in their booster seats so the nebulizer would stay on their faces.

No, friends. I'm not bored. I'm not the wicked witch of the west and I am not all "powerful" you all think I am. I am here part time but in most cases I am here too many hours than what is expected of me.

I am no super-woman and now I'm not trying for sympathy. But what I am requesting is that people be nice to each other. We are all privvy to each other's lives, but only to a point that they allow us - only to a point of the words that they write here for everyone to see. Nothing more. Be nice to everyone. Give off good vibes.

Re: done with thanksgiving and now we tackle christmas

When I saw that "bored" comment I laughed. Some people just have no clue! I don't go reporting stuff for being in the wrong place just because I'm bored either, I report stuff when I see something out of place or just wrong and actually think to do so - and if I am here on minti it   IS  because I'm bored!

You're right I think, just as members used to cop a ton of flak for being of high rank or getting to gold status when there were only a few of us that were, you're probably just copping it now because you "have the power".

You also have the power to enjoy the rest of your holiday and not log in here, so take a well-earned break and catch up on some rest and have some fun.

Cheers, DA

For the record - I didn't actually look at WHO posted what comments there, so whoever thought you were bored is a mystery to me, my laughing was at the comment not the member cause I have no clue who it was - and I'm not going to go and look back there to find out who it was because I'm pretty sure I can find something more interesting on minti to do... or I could go to bed and get some sleep... hmmm... that's an idea...

Re: done with thanksgiving and now we tackle christmas

Hey Izzy ... try not to get into a frizzy ... those that project their assumptions upon your identity are just entertaining themselves instead of re-educating themselves.  Take this aspect; we are all masters in disguise - sometimes the student in us has to understand that the teacher isn't always in the mood for games - and that is what others play to get some energy their way.

That energy Izzy is a negative vibration and if they can tap into it - they will; many find and feed their ego's on others' progressiveness.  Don't overdo it - your mothering skills come first; and everything you learn now you earn with later.  The most important task you do is "mothering" everything else is just a something when you can (you and I both know the children come first).   Keep your chin up and remember this site is diversified honey; lead by example and you lead another way.

Don't let another dampen your wings.♥

You are doing a great job Izzy - if you log on from a family event again you are in BIG trouble with your bosses !

Much love from downunder to you and yours and best wishes for the upcoming operation.

Matt

Re: done with thanksgiving and now we tackle christmas

Oh Izzy, I'm so sorry you cop this - you have been such a support over the last two years - and I have noticed you are not doing so much personal stuff any more, now I can understand why.  I don't really know why people are so nasty, come on people, pick it up and develop some maturity.  Ironically I bet the people who accuse you of being bored, probably are themselves, hence the need to join in and leave lengthy comments.  (Oh well, I'll probably get reported now, oops!)

I hope the girls' asthma improves soon (sadly the lot of many premmies down the track) and that your knee surgery goes well.  Who is looking after the kids while you recover??

Re: done with thanksgiving and now we tackle christmas

The moderators of my local Freecycle group cop the same sorts of abuse. I think it goes with the territory. As soon as you take on this kind of responsiblity, there will be people who hate what you do and how you do it. I know that's not much comfort, but perhaps it might help a little to know it's not really personal.

For my part, I've never (in the short time I've been a member) seen any of you do anything inappropriate. You're protecting the integrity of the site and protecting its value to parents. Sadly, some people forget that there's a person at the other end of the internet who has her own problems, her own life and her own feelings.

Keep up the good work, Izzy. Rest assured that the majority appreciate what you do.

Re: done with thanksgiving and now we tackle christmas

Hey Izzy! You're a much needed part of minti. We members may not always agree with whatever actions the Minti authorites take, but you guys are the "authorities" none the less - here to "preserve the peace", etc. It's unfortunate that positions of leadership are often Lonely places which bare much critizism, but Clay and Matthew must see that you have the strength and determination to handle it. You, my dear, are a Strong woman and much needed!

Re: done with thanksgiving and now we tackle christmas

Oh Izzy, Im so sorry you had to encounter this when you snuck on for a few minutes.

I didnt realise the girls had asthma. I dont think people realise quite how draining and time consuming it is just administering daily medications. We have battles over eczema creams on a daily basis, but every time we slacken off it spreads or/& bleeds. Fortunately she doesnt fight the inhalers too much, though she lies about having them if you're not watching her.

Belated Happy Thanksgiving - I meant to wish it to you this weekend.

Now, I really must go off to bed, but I couldnt log off without saying SOMETHING here!

Re: done with thanksgiving and now we tackle christmas

Hey Izzy. Negativity is a bummer. I hope you had a good Thanksgiving despite it. I've come to really appreciate Thanksgiving any more cuz it seems to be about the only holiday left that is pretty much free from commercialization and is a time meant to be spent with family! Ours was good, even though it was just us!

Happy December! Let's make it a new start, eh?

Re: done with thanksgiving and now we tackle christmas

You're so right. Thanksgiving is definitely more relaxing  - without the pressure of buying gifts etc.

I'm all for a new start. But it's not so easy to bounce back from the real downers...maybe taking a break from Minti would be good. It's time to psych myself up for my surgery on Friday anyway.
