potty training twins

Comment Published at 20:0520:0517 comments17 comments60 Visits60 VisitsReport

Armed with 2 potty chairs, pull up diapers and lots of big girl undies, I've started the twins' journey to potty training 2 days ago. On Day 1 I used big girl undies and say them on the chair for as long as they were willing (which wasn't that long). So they went around on their undies and made a few puddles. They definitely didn't like being wet. Thing 2 would freeze on her track and say, "eww. Poo poo." and point at the pee. By the end of the day, it was a bit frustrating to clean up the puddles so I decided to just use the pull-up diapers until they got the idea of the potty chair.

Day 2 was a vast improvement in that they sat on the potty longer, but still no success. Thing 1 was definitely harder to keep on the chair though. On Day 3, I decided to concentrate on Thing 2 instead. I sat her down and she willingly stayed sitted for about longer than 5 minutes but she doesn't do anything. And a few minutes after putting her pull-up back on, she does her pee pee. Oi!

We just need one "hit" and I am confident Thing 2 will be on her way to going back to using big girl undies for the rest of her training.

Re: potty training twins

How are they going now? Are the days drier? My older two are still in nappies at night, as they are really deep sleepers, so technically, they're not nappy free yet, but I know the end is in sight! I KNOW it!!

Re: potty training twins

We've been changing nappies now for, erm, let me see, four years and four months, three weeks, and a few days!! I was SOOO happy when Malachi first started to show an interest in the toilet at three, and Hadassah started at two and nine months, but they are still wet at night, so still nappies.

Are the days accident free now? I hope so!

Re: potty training twins

Hmmmmm, there's something screwy is going on here! I posted one, and it did not show, and so I posted another,  and it did show, and then I look again, and they are BOTH there . . . .

I can't  get behind that . . . .

Re: potty training twins

Good luck! I think it was wise to concentrate on the more willing one - the other will probably think she's missing out when her sister gets a few hits (and rewards?) which might spur her on.

I am still working on Sophie. Today was a breakthru - she had developed a resistance to using the potty or toilet (which had been a fun game for a bit) and would ask for knickers on then refuse to go anywhere until she ended up exploding and then crying. So I refused to put the underwear on her until she would agree to use the potty. And today we did, and got  one direct hit, one partial hit and two puddles. She was VERY pleased to get a couple of stickers for the potty use. She's exactly 2.5 now, and her big sister cracked it at 2.3, and I am trying SO hard not to get impatient! She regularly gets her nappies (washable and disposible) to leak now, which I've decided probably means she is emptying a full bladder occasionally now rather than a drop here and there, so we could really do with getting this cracked soon. You will probably beat me now with both girls LOL!

Re: potty training twins

I just want them to get potty trained soon. We could certainly use the saved money.

I will definitely do rewards if we have a hit. :) Maybe even a jig, lol. But I forgot about stickers. I must have stickers handy!

We went out to a festival today and found that the twins kept their diapers dry for 2 hours. I am pretty amazed. Of course they soaked through to the clothes when they finally did their business.

Re: potty training twins

That's the great thing about having DD2 in washables - no more expense!

I remember doing a jig when DD1 first started to wee in the potty - she thought that was great! And I still remember DD2 doing a "splash wee wee" for big sister (hey, employ DS to cheerlead them?) and clever girl did 19 tiny wees in quick succession into the toilet - and DD1 kept her word and gave her 19 tiny stickers (me I would have cheated, DD2 would never have noticed it it was only 12!).

Hope things are going well?

How is your health?
