The girls have been sleeping until 5:30 everyday for the past 2 weeks and sometimes I even have to wake them up to nurse. YAY!! I've been getting 7 hours of sleep straight (or relatively straight. Sometimes I have tell my son to hush and go back to sleep a couple of times a night). If I go to sleep early, I can even get 8 hours of sleep. My boobs get achy and hard by 5:30 though, but that's alright, as long as I don't sleep on my side.
I've been feeling a wee bit funny lately though. I notice that I've been generally more tired and I get irritated easily.
Well, I must go and fix lunch for the little man and then go to bed.
My mother and brother were here from Monday night to Friday morning. It was great to have food cooked for me!! YUM! But it did make the hubby feel left out, since the food were not to his liking (they had veggies). So I had to cook things he would eat.
Matty ate up all the attention and told me on the day they left that he was sad.
Now it's time to prepare for the twins' baptism this Sunday. I have to clean up, plan what to prepare and cook and get cookin on Saturday. The in-laws are coming on Friday, so I've requested that they could help me by totally looking after the kids so that I could concentrate on all the cooking.
The baptism is at 9am. Very early, I know. I tried to get it moved to the 11am mass, but no such luck. What was I thinking signing up for 9am?!?!?!
There will be a total of 4 godparents, so a total of 8 people to cook for, but I'm going crazy. Can you tell I don't entertain often? Chances are, I will cook enough for 20 people. But that's alright - that is my cultural heritage - ALWAYS have lots of food during any ocassions! I will be making my grandmother proud in heaven, I know it.
Now if I can only hold off getting worse. My throat is itchy and just feels raw and my body is achy.
On Saturday morning, Matty exclaimed that his hair wasn't cut by a barber. I asked him if he wanted to get it cut, and he said yes. (He's really long overdue. His sideburns hang lower than his ears.) So off we were to a hair cuttery. He did really well, though I had to assist in getting him to stop looking around. The hair cut wasn't bad, but I think Daddy and I do a better job. Seriously, don't you think he looks a-la-Spock with that bangs?
To show off his new do, I snapped a few photos and happen to catch him in a mood, as in the I-want-to-terrorize-my-sisters mood. Can't you see the terror in the girls' faces?
I think Katie has realized that big brother is up to no good, while Jojo enjoys the commotion.
At this point, Matty is starting to get in his sisters' nerves. Katie gets squeezed harder, while Jojo gets pushed off the chair. Matty is having a ball.
Don't you want to know exactly what is going in this boy's big head?
Victory!
(whatever it was that he's trying to do) Jojo has completely fallen off the chair, and Katie is still trying to get away. Poor girl.
When I was telling Matty goodbye when I dropped him off at school, it was evident that Daddy hasn't realized that he should watch what he says with Matty.
Matty: I want to close the door for you, Mommy.
Me: OK. Give me a big kiss. (I get a kiss.) Give me a big hug. (He holds his arms straight out for me.)
Matty: Mommy, too tight! You're squeezing the poop out.
Oh yes, this one is from Daddy. I've heard it a few times (at home) and apparently, now so have other people.
My brother feeding the Giraffe. We tried to get Matty to hold the cup, but he didn't want to. But he did get really close to it though.
Jojo is trying to get Uncle's glasses, and Matty makes funny faces.
We all had a day at the zoo with Gramma and my brother on Wednesday. It was a great day, though I didn't expect it to be so windy that morning. Ooopsy! Thankfully, I had a big beach towel in the car and it served to be the perfect blanket between Katie and Jojo.
The day went great, but Matty didn't nap. There was a major melt down late that afternoon, which I would rather not discuss in hopes that it would eventually be erased from my memory.
The girls' ears were pierced this Tuesday at the pediatrician's. I was a little apprehensive about the appointment because I don't know how painful it would be for them (my ears were pierced as baby). But it didn't turn out half as bad as I thought it would. Thankfully my mom was in town to help out when the crying began.
Jojo (foreground) with her sick look. She was stuffy that day.
Katie got the solid ball stud earring.
Jojo got the diamond earring.
I didn't want the girls to have the same earrings. This is a good way for relatives to know which is which!
Hi everyone. It's been very busy here. There was no school on Friday, but unfortunately, Matty didn't have a fun day. He got sick and had a high fever for a couple of days. Then I had to clean up the house in preparation for my mother and brother being here for the week from a thousand miles away (they drove straight without stopping!). They have been here since last night and Matty is enjoying all the attention. Thankfully, he is well enough to enjoy the visit. He won't be going to school tomorrow so we could go to the zoo and enjoy gramma and his uncle.
The twins are at a stage where they do not like new faces so they are taking a bit of time to warm up to gramma. Also, they got their ears pierced today at the pediatrician's office. The are doing pretty well. I have no idea how it feels since my ears were pierced as an infant too. But it seems that after the initial pain, it didn't bother them anymore. They don't tug on it, scratch on it. They hardly know there is anything on their ears. But they do know the other has something on though. They instead reach for each others' earrrings!
well, that's all for now. I hope everyone had a great easter.
Yesterday was my son's easter party at school. I showed up with my chocolate chip banana bread. When the teachers started putting it on the children's plates (3 - 3 1/2 year olds), here are some of the comments I heard, "What's that?", "I don't like that", "ewww".
The banana bread was brown and it had dark spots on it because of the chocolate chips and apparently no one has ever seen one before, except my son. My son gobbled it up, and so did a few other kids. There were left overs so I told the teachers that they can keep it for themselves.
This morning, when my husband dropped off Matty to school, he saw one of the teachers and accordign to my husband, all she could talk about was my banana bread. She said she hoped that I wasn't offended that most of the kids didn't eat it, but she said she took the left over home! LOL
By the way, I never did find the 2nd whisk attachment. But with the girls crying while I was making it, I made do with one. I just refuse to mix it myself using my muscles! Besides, the crying from the girls was like an egg timer, or more accurately, a ticking time bomb the way it was stressing me out. So I used the mixer with one whisk attachment, which looked very sad (in a funny way). It took a little longer to mix, but it did the job.
The girls had their 9-month well baby check last week. Jojo is 16 lbs 4 oz (10th percentile), 27 inches long (40th percentile) and 50th percentile for head size. Katie is 17 lbs 9 oz (25th percentile), 27 3/4 inches long (50th percentile), and also in the 50th percentile for head size.
I asked the pediatrician if we should worry about them being small and he said no. They are on the small side but is within normal limits.
Yesterday, Matty had his 3-year old well check. He was quite chit-chatty with the doctor, which was pleasantly surprising. Because he didn't get a shot, it was even more pleasant. Matty weighed in at 39 lbs (95th percentile) and 38 inches tall (75th percentile). The doctor said he is quite a stocky boy and not fat at all (considering he's heavier than 95 percent of kids his age). He has his father's broad shoulder!
Matty, in all his 3 years of life has never fallen below 85th percentile for his weight. So you can understand why I think the girls are small, right?
I signed up to bring chocolate chip banana bread for my son's school's spring fling party tomorrow so I am getting ready to make it. After I have some of the dry ingredients together, it was time to get mixing. I found one whisk attachment for my mixer but can't find the other one! I've searched and searched through suspect places where my son has played with my kitchen utensils but no luck. I've searched the pile of cars in the living room, but still no luck.
Whisk thingy, I need you! Come back to me! I don't want to be mixing stuff the old fashioned way. Please! I swear the little man is gone. He's not here. He doesn't have to know that you've come back. I will protect you from now on!!!!! I will even place you in the highest shelf of the cabinet where even I have trouble reaching.
This was taken as soon as we get home from school. He had been waiting to open his gifts since he woke in the morning, but since we knew he would want to take his presents to school, we didn't let him.
He had birthday party in the afternoon. I brought cup cakes that I ordered from WalMart. It was decorated the same as regular cakes, except they are cupcakes. It worked well for school because we didn't have to cut it up. It was a Cars theme cake. I also brought vanilla ice cream and cookies. We all sang to him and he blew out his candles and they all ate quietly! After everything was cleaned up, I put Cars tattoo on everyone. I was worried that only the boys would like it but the girls liked it too. I had party bags for everyone that were there, full of everything Cars of course.
When we got home, he was finally given his gifts. He got everything Cars from his Nana and Papaw and I got him a toy vacuum (this one was overdue since I promised it to him one day when I went to the store by myself, but the store was out of stock!). Daddy got him a military helicopter with a motorcyle (we had to get rid of the guns) and his sisters got him Tonka service vehicles. They were all a hit with him!!
But with me being stressed out trying to get everything for the party at school on time, that when I got there, I forgot to take pictures. Bad mommy!!
This is Jojo on her Daddy's chest when she was 6 1/2 weeks old (right on her estimated due date!). I love this picture because it shows how tiny Jojo was (1 lb smaller than Katie at the time). She's so tiny she looks like a doll.
Most of you know form my blogs in the last week or so that my husband was sick for a long time and was admitted to the hospital. I had quite a busy and exhausting 3 weeks. My livingroom and kitchen floor were littered with toys, and kitchen countertops were littered with dirty dishes, and the dirty laundry piled up.
Well, one day while I was just playing with my son in his room, I thought I should multi-task and put away some laundry that were just sitting in the dryer. I wasn't going to do it all, but was just going to quickly do what I could in 5 minutes. I folded sheets and put them in the closet. My sheets belong in the highest part of the shelves. You know that useless space up there where no one can reach? That's the one. Looking for a stool was just a waist of my precious 5 minutes, so I jumped a few times. No luck. So I got one of my son's stool from his bathrom. No stinkin' luck. My precious 5 minutes were ticking away. So I got a slightly taller stool, but it just wasn't tall enough. ARGH. This multi-tasking was taking more time than it was worth so I had a bright (or not so bright) idea to put the smaller stool on top of the bigger one. In 1 second flat after stepping on it, I came tumbling down, sideways. I hurt my right arm, and I my left thigh landed on one of the stools. It hurt so bad, but since I didn't want my husband to find out what I had done, I tried to remain quiet. By the way my husband was just next door in the bathroom (it's right next to the closet) doing his nebulizer breathing treatment. But it was one of those pain that just gets worse instead of getting better after seconds ticks by so there I was moaning and groaning.
In came my husband and asked if I was alright. He found me on the floor. It took him only a few seconds to put 2 and 2 together and said, "oh no you didn't!!" Oh yup, I did.
I had the biggest bruise on my arm and on my thigh for a few days. I teased my husband and told him that if anyone asked me about it, I would say that he beat me up. Sure beats telling everyone how stupid I was.
Katie is on the right doing an ode to the celery and Jojo is on the left playing with her tongue, twisting it to the side (watch carefully). We've nicknamed Jojo the Lizard Girl. By the way, she got that gene from me.
Oh, and Daddy wanted me to add that he has nicknamed Katie the Billy Goat, because she puts everything in her mouth.
Three years ago today, you made a very loud entrance into the world. You were the most handsome baby we'd ever seen, and it's gotta be said, you were also the biggest. Everyone in the Labor & Delivery floor in the hospital came to see the "big baby".
You were a challenging baby. Mommy had to learn to do everything one-handed because you refused to be put down. You also refused to sleep. It was as if you didn't want to miss any second of anything exciting that may happen.
You continually amazed us as a baby. Every time I thought you may get cranky, you would be in your best behavior, especially in public. You reserved your crankiness in the comfort of our home.
You were always ahead in your motor skills, but it wasn't until 2 1/2 that your verbal skills took off. And oh, how it took off. Everyday, Daddy and I are always amused by the stories you tell.
You are a loving big brother. You welcomed your sisters with open arms. They were YOUR babies. You are a bit rough, and also super protective. But you have to be, with 2 sisters to fend for all your life. I'm sure you and Daddy will have the greatest time scaring suitors away.
Matty, you and I are both strong-willed and so we've butted heads many times, but know that I will always love you. Both Daddy and I are doing our best, but being the first child, we don't always do very well. From day 1, you've always known what you want and don't want and been very vocal about it. And this hasn't changed now that you're getting bigger. You are highly independent. When you were 15 months old, you walked away from me when we were in the park, just to see a man mowing the grounds. You got as far as 30 feet away without even glancing back once. I was worried, but also very proud. I just knew you would grow up to be a very independent, confident, sensitive adult. Daddy and I will do our best to nurture your little soul.
When dogs have behavioral problems, a great answer is to take them for obedience training. Do you think it works with toddlers?
Matty bit two kids in his class today. He told me about it as soon as I walked in when I picked him up. The teacher was quite amused that he was telling on himself. Oh, but I wasn't amused.
According to the teacher, Matty bit someone out of frustration this morning. But since it was out of character for him (everyone at school loves him for being such the model student), she let it go. But not 15 minutes before I picked him up, he apparently bit another kid. He didn't bite hard, thank goodness. Though I am trying to mentally prepare myself to be ambushed in the parking lot by a couple parents.
So I had a calm talk with him all the way home. Then somewhere between the school and our house, I thought there should be a punishment. I told him TV and video games aren't allowed this evening. Then the crying and the hollering and the "I want my Daddy" started.
He is probably too young for the punishment, and the punishment doesn't quite fit the crime (I'm all for natural consequences) but I couldn't think of anything else at the moment. I mean, what's the natural consequence for biting someone? Help me out, in case it happens again. Though I doubt that it would. I'm pretty good at scaring the bajeezuz out of someone.
This is my background, and has been for a long time. I need to update it, but I just love seeing my children here and then seeing how they've grown up.
Nana called to check on us and asked Daddy if the girls were pulling up yet. Daddy said no, not really. Well, what do you know, that same evening Jojo decided to try.
For the past 2-3 weeks, Jojo hasn't done much. She stopped smiling much and stopped interacting with her toys. Katie took advantage of this and grabbed every toy that Jojo held in her hands. But in the last week, Jojo has taken off like a rocket. She plays, and explores everything there is about a particular toy. She can now sit up by herself, though she did fall a couple of times once and wanted me to be near her to feel secure again. Now she's pulling up. I place her in the middle of the crib (sitting up) and yet I find her on the side grabbing onto the bars. Still sitting up!
In the meantime, Katie has not done much. She is actually refusing to stand up lately. She holds her legs up if I try to make her stand up. I don't know why she's doing it, because it really requires more strength to keep her legs up then to just go ahead and let them down and stand.
I think they let each other have their own shining moment and take turns. They leapfrog each other, which I think is awesome. This way we can appreciate and celebrate each one fully. What clever girls.
Matty has been sleeping in his bedroom since we moved him there some time in November. We progressed so well and so fast, it amazed us. But then the twins got sick and Matty regressed. I didn't make the connection at the time, but the hubby did. He theorized that since we were paying so much attention to the twins, he was feeling left out and wanted to sleep back in our room.
When the hubby was in the hospital, not only did Matty sleep back in our room, he slept with me on our bed. So to avoid frustration in everyone's part, I set up a sleeping back on the floor in our bedroom and let Matty sleep there.
Wait a minute. Weren't we in this exact same situation many moons ago? Not only did we take steps back, but it seemed we went back as far as the beginning. This wouldn't do. I made a deal wth Matty that he is to sleep in his bedroom in the beginning of the night. Whenever he wakes up, he is allowed to run to our bedroom and sleep on the flor.
It worked out yesterday, but this boy is just way too smart. Not 5 minutes after I said goodnight and gone downstairs, I heard running. I go upstairs to check on Matty and he was lying down on the floor in our bedroom.
I asked him why he was there, and he said, "I woke up, Mommy! Now I sleep in Mommy's floor." I rolled my eyes and said goodnight.
When Daddy came up and saw Matty on the floor, Matty said, "Mommy say to me I can sleep on Mommy's floor!"
My husband is a lot better, though is gets tired easily. But not having to battle a fever constantly is a load off. But we still do not have the results on all the cultures that were taken in the hospital, so don't exactly know what he had. Perhaps we may never know.
On Saturday, Katie awoke with a fever. I'm not one to run to the doctor the first day a fever appears, but being that the hubby situation and then Matty got an ear infection (possibly starting from a flu), I went ahead and took her to the doctor. The flu test turned out negative so we were sent home. The fever was gone that afternoon and was never to be heard from again. Jordan is coughing how, but is not showing any other symptoms.
It's been a hard 3 weeks for me. It sounds a little callous but I can't wait for my husband to go back to work on Monday so that the girls and I can get back to our routine. And I can finally start cleaning up the house! It's a mess!!!!
I am physically tired, but not as much as I am emotionally and psychological drained. While hubby was in the hospital, I was snapping at my son. I turned into a psycho!! Thankfully, hubby is back and able to snap some sense into me.
