What A Silly Thing I Did!

Comment Published at 21:2321:2337 comments37 comments48 Visits48 VisitsReport

Hope everyone is having a better day than me!

About twenty minutes into  cooking dinner last night, ( or Supper, as Marg would say ) , I went to remove a stove cover from  a  hot plate not in use, not realising that the hot plate underneath was on.   Stupid I know, I am usually so watchful of making sure the hotplates I'm not using are switched off.

Being black enamel, three of my finger tips just stuck....it was straight under the cold water, then on with a ice brick. Over many  years of  receiving burns, the treatment is cold water, an ice brick, then this remarkable burn dressing gel from Johnson & Johnson...the burns settle down within 1/2 hour.

Not this time ! Three hours  later my fingers still had the sensation of burning  not throbbing, burning....with some TLC from Steve he dressed my fingers very gently, plus a couple of panadaine forte, I sat with tears in my eyes for the burning sensation to subside. It was about 5am this morning that it did....don't think they would get finger prints off me today hee hee!.

i have'nt taken the dressings off yet, as i imagine my fingers will be badly blistered, so am doing everything with one hand, I have  experienced many burns but this one was a doosey!!!!!

This was a reality check also, for Mum's to be alert with young ones near stoves.

Take care Everyone.

Much Love

Your so right Nicki we don't realise how much we depend on our limbs until you can't use them...then it is a real wake up call.

War is over, have had my share, no more...fingers croosed.

Youch!  JJ, that sounds really awful!  You poor thing, I can relate to the many burns thing too, however it doesn't help when it actually happens.  I hope that your poor fingers recover soon - take it easy with those hot things, (except Steve of course).

Re: What A Silly Thing I Did!

Awwww janice (it feels so weird calling you janice because it's my mum's name LOL) I don't think it was silly of you, you must have just had a lot on your mind at the time, it happens to the best of us!. After all it's not like a tree didn't almost fall on the house or cheeky's antics etc They say bad things come in threes so now I'm here to sprinkle some of that positive juju your way Or even philisophical yet... they say bad things happen to good people to prevent worse things from happening (maybe you just prevented a minti users house fire because they remembered your article). I'm sending you positive vibes and hope that karma brings you something very rewarding to blog about next time xoxo

Ouch, see janice if your hurt we all hurt, gosh it must have been frightening too for you both. It is so easily done . when in the kitchen we have so many things to  think about at the same time. I shall be thinking of you more than ever for a few days as burns are really painful.

Re: What A Silly Thing I Did!

You are such a treasure Pauline, didn't enjoy writing this blog especially with one hand...was just feeling sorry for myself.

Most burns I've had the burns dressing settles them down quickly but boy this one is definitely letting me know  it is paying out on me.

Will try and think of something nicer to write about, the weather no as it is still  raining the only bright thing is Cheeky is still about annoying me for food, love the little fellow.

Love Janice xxxx

Lots of hugs  and a big kiss to make it  better, this used to work on my children and still does on the grandchildren haha

Re: What A Silly Thing I Did!

Mwah feel better  already amazing how a hug & kiss given with love can make such a difference.

Haa Haa being  selfish hey, never worry, I would find a way  by hook or by crook to still be around to annoy  you!

I do know about  the pain when the pain tablets wear off...think I've burnt a few layers of skin than I first thought, never had a burn that hurt so much....yeah just an old sook.

Re: What A Silly Thing I Did!

It's amazing it works every time. I have said so often to my children and grandchildren"Let me kiss it better " and they seem to brighten up right away so I rather hoped it would heal your hurt too.  I do hope you haven't burnt too many layers of skin (sounds awful doesn't it? )

Keep taking the pain tablets for a day or two, we do all care for you, you MUST know that

Lots of love Pauline

Re: What A Silly Thing I Did!

Steve said the same thing as the raw flesh is not just red but purplish, have never had a burn that kept on burning for so long. Think I'm getting a sook in my old age....gee the panadaine forte have come in handy today, though.

Hope all is going well with your pregnancy dear Nat.

Re: What A Silly Thing I Did!

Poor Janice. What a horrible thing to happen. I have had bad burns before as well so i know how you feel.

I once had a oven door from an oven a work fall close on my arm. The glass from the top of the door burnt the top of my arm and the bottom of the oven burnt the underneath of my arm. I actually had grill marks on the underneath of my arm for about a year.

I'm glad Steve was there to bandage your fingers for you. I hope you feel better soon!

Love Juzzy xoxoxox

Re: What A Silly Thing I Did!

Your burn ordeal sounded horrid Juzzy, hope you were not left with permanent scars, I feel burns are one of the worse pain you can endure.

Steve was  so gentle  ( for a man, hehe! ) bandaging my fingers.

Thanks sweet.
