Our time at the cottage.

"Our Time At The Cottage"

After nearly 3 weeks with Marg and Dan at their home in Oshawa, they kept the best until last !  They both knew how much I loved spending time at their cottage on our last trip, so they arranged for my last week to be spent there ! And so the three of us,  oops, sorry Avro, the 4 of us, drove up to this wonderful paradise, set on the side of a beautiful lake and surrounded by nature, peace and serenity.  I could think of no other place more fitting, to spend precious time with my family, as that's how I now feel.
Driving off the road and up to the cottage is like abandoning civilisation and entering a new world.  The cottage itself is beautifully equipped  but its setting is as natural as it would have been a hundred years ago. Stepping out of car at the cottage is like  stepping into a natural wilderness , the forest seems completely untouched, just as nature intended. I felt so humbled to be back amongst nature in all her glory.
So many wonderful things happened in our amazing week at the cottage, if I were to write about them all, this blog would be as long as  "War & Peace" . So, I think I will let the photo's tell the story, if I have any luck posting them. I can say, being in this magical part of the world, with loving family, experiencing  peace and tranquilty in abundance was the best gift of love my Darling Husband could have given me.

Can you guess who was receiving or giving the hug? Marg took me  for a ride around the lake in the canoe. I enjoyed it immensely, as I sat and took in all the amazing scenery.... for Marg our return trip  was such hard work as  she was rowing against the wind. She battled on regardless and returned us home safe and sound! This shot was taken as we were coming in to dock.

A little Chipmunk enjoying a refreshing drink from Avro's drinking bowl.

A Corn Squirrel munching on a peanut that I just managed to have in my pocket, don't we all carry peanuts in our pockets?

After a few days of isolation a sugar fix was needed, a quick trip into a little township, we were set for a yummy afternoon tea. One thing stood in our way....Marg decided she was having them all and so pleased with herself, she was!

Returning home from a walk with Dan and Avro, we  came upon a bear print not more than 500 yards from the cottage. I was so excited with Dan's find,  studying the size of the print, I thought to myself I don't want to come face to face with this animal.

My mate Avro found a pail to play with  and went to great lengths to make sure we were not going to get it off him.

We experienced many a beautiful sunset while  at the cottage, but on our  last night we were graced with the most stunningly amazing sunset.

I wish each and everyone of my friends a wonderful weekend. Love Janice

Re: Our time at the cottage.

It looks like the most amazing place to be. So glad you shared the pics with us. Thankyou, I feel the pleasure from those pictures. I have to agree with a footprint that big I'd rather see a bear from the comfort of my lounge on the tele. I think the hug was a two way one.

Re: Our time at the cottage.

Absolutely beautiful place! How cute the little chipmunk. The bear print would have been a little bit of a scary find. I was watching some program on foxtel the other day about bears in Canada and they were relocating bears snakes raccoons and alligators getting a little close to homes and was thinking of Marg, especially after her raccoon story. The mother ones can be very fierce when protecting there babies. Thank you so much for sharing. xx

Re: Our time at the cottage.

It is that a beautiful part of the world and no photo's do it justice.

Sad as it is, I feel it is the homes getting to close to the animals territory and man destroying their habitat, which means they come looking for food. After seeing that paw print up close, I certainly have a greater respect for this majestic animal.

It pleases me you enjoyed sharing my adventures and precious time with Marg.

That grin is just the cats meow, isn't it? . . . do the flowers - trilliums - smell? They look sweet . . . Ooooh! Geese! . . . . lovely house . . . I love jetty's, don't know if I'm game enough to take the children on one, though! . . .  CHIPMUNK!! . . . . Was it ice tea in your ice tea cup? . . .

I love commentary photo's! They're brilliant!

Re: Our time at the cottage.

Not sure if the Trilliums have a smell Naomi, I will have to ask Margie....naughty with  the whole field before us and I didn't even get down and have a smell!

I could say it was iced tea in the ice tea cup but that would be telling a little white lie.....it was "Ice Wine", Marg bought a bottle so Steve and her could try it out....he was totally spoilt by Marg...every time his cup was nearly empty, she would be there to refill it.

Ooooh! You on the train! Reminds me of Agetha Christie . . .and sitting down to eat in it . . . .  is it Jess your holding in your arms like a tango position? . . . looks like your resisting kiddnapping by dog lead! . . . Ha! Dog as foot stool, yep been there, do that  . . .

Lovely, lovely! I can just picture it!

Being on the Rocky Mountaineer Train felt a bit like Agetha Christie.

Yes that is Jess and we were trying to keep her with us, using the dog lead, when she had to leave, Haa Haa! didn't work

You are a  sweetheart for taking the time to look back on our trip of a lifetime and it was that...my 30 year dream, did come true.

Oh yeah Timmy's too, if only Marg would share Haa Haa! In my months stay there were a few pit stops made to Timmy's....oh so yummy and what a variety.

Me thinks you might be right, with hugging each other.

I'm glad you have enjoyed my little array of photo's...this one is of a beautiful  garden in a park only 5 minutes from Marg's.

Re: Our time at the cottage.

I seen a cub  bear from a distant and very quickly backed up and made my way to the cottage...didn't want to hang around to see Mumma.

Avro is such a stubborn dog when it comes to sharing his toys, such fun I have with him.

Doughnuts hey winnie, poor Dan and I had to nearly beg for one, Haa Haa! Loved that photo of Marg just priceless, cheeky grin and all!

It was just beautiful out on the lake winnie, when the wind came I thought we might be spending the night out there. hehe! But oarsman Marg is defied the odds and returned us home.

I thankyou Winnie for coming along with us in more ways than one hey?

Love Janice xxxxxxxxxxxxx hugs alsoxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

We were a long way from home, hehe!

Re: Our time at the cottage.

Heee, heee, heeee, yah,  but I knew the chance of seeing the lake in a canoe would win my special Nature Buddy over.  The morning before I had been out early and sat beside the loons.  I so wanted them to be there for Janice to see but a storm was coming up the day we went out and the water very rough.  Trying to come back was a challenge in about 30 to 40 km winds! LOL!!!  Janice was a great passenger and I know we will do that again.

Yeah those early mornings were bugger to try and conquer, Hee Hee!....had nothing to do with the late nights of course!

I could see it was challenge my friend but your expertise got us home safe and sound, we will certainly be doing it again. Next time some lessons in rowing first so I can help my nature buddy out.

The feelings of wanting to still be there with you are mighty, how awesome it would be if we were able to stop time when we wanted to.

Love you dearly my friend xxxxx

If you hold on long enough then maybe you'll never have to let go!

If that fails give every one the kicked puppy look and they'll move mountains to make you happy!

If THAT fails you can try a temper tantrum, but I find this only attracts band-aid solutions, as people only want you to shut up, they don't actually care about your happiness at this point!

Chipmunks are cute and so fascinating to watch especially when these tiny little creatures are filling their cheeks with peanuts and acorns....just to cute!

Yes this time me giving Marg a hug, don't tell Marg she may disagree, hehe!

Have a greater respect for bears after seeing the size of that paw print.

Sweet dreams of sunsets Naomi.

Most dogs swim, but not Avro. So when Marg took me for a canoe ride, he sat on the dock and just whined till we returned. I so miss him....a real character.

Our journey  has been shared by many a cherished friend, none other than yourself dear Pauline. You were with us,  weren't your ears burning with the chats we were having together?

What are you talking about  " can't make real friends" just joking, Hee Hee! I think you just know and feel it ( in the pit of your stomach) when a friendship is real, whether it be in real life or on the internet.

You better feel it is real because the day is coming for me come and annoy you in person whether you like it or not, Haa Haa!

What a great pictoral blog

I could almost hear the laughter radiating from the pictures Janice

Its so wrong that you two live half a world apart, and so right that you have met and become the greatest friends, the bonus for us all here is that we get to share in it with you

Re: Our time at the cottage.

There was much laughter, tears of happiness and sadness thinking of our time drawing near, peace and hundreds of warm loving hugs.

It is wrong so wrong that we live so far apart, each time I visit I seem to leave a bit more of me behind.

If it wasn't for minti ( for which I am forever grateful )  this so ever special connection would never have happened.

In three years Helen we have experience so many aspects good & bad of each others lives and I for one feel very humble for sharing my friends lives. Where else could we do this other than  on minti, till me meet in person of course.
