A 1/2 Hour Cyclone & Total Devastation!

Comment Published at 03:5403:5444 comments44 comments55 Visits55 VisitsReport

Our beautiful property is no longer beautiful!

On thursday afternoon Steve & i were out on our patio around 5pm, when we noticed this oh so black, reddish cloud coming over the hill. The next 1/2 hour was just terrifying.....when it was over, we went out to see what damage had been done and i just broke down....it was just heart breaking.

There is not one space in all the 5 acres that isn't littered with branches and trees.

This one just missed out home by inches and took out  Steve's beautiful garden also.

As you can see Steve couldn't even get his car out.

Our driveway is about 500foot loop, this took Steve & i all friday just to clear our driveway so we could get our cars out.

There is alot more photo's but i'm sure i have now used up all my  monthly quota....but all this  is just heart breaking....we had everything  looking so good and ready for us to leave for our holiday, which is only 4 weeks away today.

So i'll give you all one guess, as to what Steve & i have been doing the last few days, we are both totally exhausted.....getting to old for this.

So hope all our friends out there are having a better time.

Lots of love Janice & Steve xxxxx

OH how devistating!  I know how terrifiying it can be.  I grew where there were often tornandoes and hurricanes.  I'm glad thought, that the most important thing, you both are safe and unharmed.  I know cleaning up will take some time, and then it will love even more beautiful before!  Lots of love,

a little mama

Re: A 1/2 Hour Cyclone & Total Devastation!

Sorry to see the destruction of your property it is very heartbreaking to have all your hard work destroyed in a matter of  a 1/2 hour spree. no doubt it will take time to get back to it's beautiful state but you will enjoy doing it all over again, it is rewarding within yourself to know that yes I have overcome this again.

I had a fire go through my property in Bindoon (near Perth) while I was home and I lost thousand of exotic bird and fruit trees it is devestating but you do come through it a better person, although I could not stay there anymore I became to frightened so we moved to a smaller property but still have birds.

when you come back from your rest and recreation have all those photos infront of you and say I'll put that in that spot were that big tree was and there it starts my thoughts are with you and yours lol veejay

Re: A 1/2 Hour Cyclone & Total Devastation!

Hi Vicki, how awful that you lost  so much through a fire, must have been terrifying for you and how awful for all those beautiful birds. I think that is my other fear fire, especially living on acreage and having about 300 acres around us....not now while it is so green but when it is dry....it wouldn't take much to set it a light.

Thanks for dropping in and leaving your so kind thoughts...just took a peek at your homepage and noticed your the same age as myself....nice to know, i don't feel so alone now.

Hugs Janice

Re: A 1/2 Hour Cyclone & Total Devastation!

What a shame.  All that hard work and now 1/2 hour storms and this is what they do.  Makes me respect Mother Nature even more.

Think of the potentials that could come out of it.  New beginnings and that excitement of 'adventure' in your own back yard all over again.  Think of the new homes that those fallen trees will provide for more wildlife, especially in the coming months as they start breaking down.  Think of how you didn't add to the green house emissions for a while because you couldn't move the car.

Wish I could be there to help you clean it all up, but I am having trouble carrying a washing basket these days and am tripping over the smallest things because I can't see my feet.

Do the work slowly, take your time and rest when you are tired.  You will have your 'kingdom' back the way you want it in no time.

Hi Janice,So glad that you and Steve are fine just a little exhausted ,that must have been so terrifying and the timing when you are so close to going away, could have been worse  ,and luckily no structural damage to you beautiful home oh so close , little too close I bet. Mother nature is really at it's worst ,with the snow and ice storms that Marg had been getting ,some strange weather all over the world in the past months. If only our Minti community could be there in person we would all have it done for you in a jiffy, unfortunately we can on be there in spirit and wish you all the  emotional support. You are really going to need this relaxing holiday.

Dear Cham, still waiting to hear that you have become a grandmother, must be close now?

Many thanks for your beautiful thoughts and kind words & most of all the emotional support.....yes it was little to close that's for sure.

I agree the weather patterns world wide have been really weird for the past few years and i believe it has alot to do with man interferring with nature. But this is the 3rd one we have been through and we are getting to old to be doing all this.

OH MY GOD.. If I could come and help you clear it I would. I really would..

You be careful going in under the other trees, I'd hate to think some have become unstable...
I am sure you guys will have it all back up and running again.

You are very lucky it did not hit the house...

My thoughts are with you.. xxx

Re: A 1/2 Hour Cyclone & Total Devastation!

Thankyou Jess for your kind offer....and you are so right....while we were out there this morning another couple of big trees came down, you just hear this awful cracking sound and next a tree is down.....and there is many trees with huge branches stuck or wedged into other trees, which are very unstable.

Thanks for your thoughts.....love Janice xxxx

Dear Kerri, it is heart breaking sweet, Steve's beautiful garden was squashed in a split second and our  property that was looking like a park is now looking like mother nature was playing fun & games with it.

Re: A 1/2 Hour Cyclone & Total Devastation!

So glad to see you on my friend, i was beginning to worry about you because you haven't been on......know you have alot going on over there and my thoughts and prayers are still with you all.

Yes a few of the trees got a direct hit from lightning the rest that came down was from the force of the wind and are still coming down....Steve is out there at present with the chainsaw....just hope no more decide to come down while he is out there.....we seem to be taking it in turns, i go out and do abit, then Steve goes out.....but at present it is 4pm this way ans i'm not sure i can go out and do anymore today, the mind is willing but the body is saying don't be stupid.

No i'm not fond of storms ( know you like watching them)....but for  the the love of me, don't know how anyone can love storms....Steve is one of those people and thought he would sit in his armchair and watch this storm coming.....but he soon changed his tune when all the elements came bearing down on us.

Yeah i know nag, but i love you nagging me!

Oh Janice

We so often admire the beauty of Nature we forget the power and destruction it can bring too

You must be absolutely heartbroken to see this amount of damage

I am so sorry you have all this to deal with

Re: A 1/2 Hour Cyclone & Total Devastation!

Dear Helen, the beauty of nature is something to behold when she is behaving herself.....but when she is angry, she can caused so much destruction.

This is the 3rd one we have had in 12 years and i still can't get over the force and the power that all these elements came at us with....in just a short time there was thunder, lighting ( which hit some of the trees)....rain...hail....and the almighty wind that done the rest of the damage.....just so terrifying.

Thanks for your kind words my friend.
