Dog fell out the window...

Comment Published at 20:4920:4919 comments19 comments519 Visits519 VisitsReport

of my moving car...

I have electrical windows..  The dog likes to put his head out the window... I have a lock to lock the back windows, but not the front.. Dog puts foot on button window goes down, I turn corner and out goes the dog... OH MY GOD.. I am soooooo lucky he is not hurt, and no one was behind me at the time...

I was shown how to tie the dog in the car so he does not go jumping all over me while driving.. But in doing this the leash was long enough for him to be dragged a little.  Not long I stopped almost immediately.  I would have stopped sooner but I would have been in the middle of the intersection,  as it was where I stopped was not the safest at all, but hell my dog just fell out the window, and I'd have liked to see anyone try and stop me from stopping... Because he was tied, I believe he will have a bit of a sore neck tomorrow... But he seemed a unharmed, just a little shaken, to the point of peeing in my car... Yes he got back in and peed on the leather seats, but for those of you who know what i drive, I really did not care at all...  I took off my jumper and put it on the seat, had to mop it up, and sure I hope it does not smell tomorrow, but my dog is alive and that is what matters most. I can't believe he fell out the bloody window...

Some may laugh, and I guess in a way it was a little funny looking over to see the dogs ass slip, and yet at the same time realizing what was happening, I felt so bad, but was very happy that I was not going over 20km.. As I had just stopped at a stop sign and was turning I was not going fast at all...  I got out of the car to find my dog shaken and sitting calmly beside the car, had I have been going any faster it would have taken longer to stop and he would have been dragged, his butt did not touch the ground exactly and the poor dog had a choker chain on...

But to end this story, he is alive, and looks fine, i will just keep an eye on him to make sure nothing develops... But hey he swallowed a zipper and is still kicking so I think he'll be just fine, but i think he should ride in the back now where I have control over the windows...

I should have seen this as a sign the other day when he put his foot on the button and he got his head caught...  Lucky I have buttons for his window on my side...  Wish I had of seen it before he fell out.. xxxx

Re: Dog fell out the window...

Oh Jess I know exactly how scary this is - we have had it happen twice! The first was our dear Terra - we were doing 100km and hour in the old hilux & she was on James' knee while he was driving (naughty I know but that is where she liked to sit & he didn't mind) she leant too far out the window over James' arm & out she went...thank go my dear hubby's reflexes are so good & he caught her before she hit the ground! The second was Jack's dog nipper, just after she was first joined (which didn't result in puppies) at 70km an hour. I was not in the Hilux with James this time as he had just shot into town to see my cousin & was on his way back...she did the same as Terra & leant too far out the window & James didn't catch her - she had a few very minor scrapes but was otherwise fine. I think James has now learnt not the let the dogs lean out so far these days!

xxoo

Re: Dog fell out the window...

Thanks every one, dogs fine and so am I.. I think I was to dumbfounded to believe it happened to be upset.. But lets just say I am more then happy the cord was not long enough for him to go under the car, and second that there were no cars behind me.. He was a little shaken but other then that he was raring to get back in today to get to play with his friends...

But all is well with Murray...

How scary for you Jess........I know if it were me I would have been pretty upset by it. It's happened to my MIL a few times. I'm glad he's ok and I'm sure he's going to enjoy the TLC.

Re: Dog fell out the window...

I am sorry but I could not help but have a giggle here,  you said "it happened to my mother in-law a few times."

I am assuming that you mean to her dog, but at first read, it sounds like your MIL fell out the window...

Re: Dog fell out the window...

I wouldn't of been funny from your point of view but if I'd seen a dog jump out of a car window, I would of cracked up LOL

Glad he is ok. He'll have to be a back seat driver from now on!!!

Re: Dog fell out the window...

I'm sorry Jess, but that is way funny! lol.  Hhhhhmmm, someone should have told him that it is bad manners to climb out the windows and that there is a door there!!!!

Glad he is ok.  Just a word of warning though, he might start peeing in the car all the time now as he had a traumatic experience.  You have to get his confidence back and maybe get a harness so that next time he doesn't choke himself!!!!

Re: Dog fell out the window...

After reading the other comments I don't feel like such a sadist for laughing, and I mean really laughing....  Oh poor Murray I'm sure he won't be doing that again.....  I have power windows to but I can lock all except the drivers so my Molly is pretty safe when she is up flapping in the wind....  Well thank god you were not going very fast and Murray lives to see another day back to stealing toys from Francis pmsl xxx

Oh Jess!  OMG, I am laughing so hard, but I was worried when I read the title.  Poor DOG!  Perhaps you should get him a seatbelt harness so that he can sit firmly in his seat and be safe in a crash (and not fall out windows).

Re: Dog fell out the window...

The lady at the kennel where the dog park is today suggested the seat buckle.. She had none in stock but as soon as she does, my dog is getting it.. :)

They rock!  They are also handy to leave on and click the lead to...   Best of luck anyway, I am sure he appreciates all the effort you make on his behalf xox

Re: Dog fell out the window...

Oh my goodness.. I had a little laugh.. I shouldn't of.. It was kinda funny but thankfully you were not speeding!
Thankfully, he's alright. You're right, that's the main thing! I'm sure he will have a sore neck in the morning too!!
How did hubby take it when you told him that the dog fell out the window??
I would of been crying, shocked and stopping as quick as I could (like you!!!)

Let me know how he's doing.. Poor Murray!! :(

Re: Dog fell out the window...

Glad he is alright. It has happened to my brothers dog too and my ex-husbands and in both cases they were lucky and the dog was O.K. I was going to say it was lucky that it didn't go up the other way but you have already experienced that. LOL Oh well all I can say is.......kids and animals, hey? Glad he is fine. Bet that gave you a nice adreneline rush! LOL
