My Baby’s Feeding Bottles
You might find it interesting why I chose to talk about my kid’s feeding bottles. I found the topic odd myself but don’t worry I have a far more stable point in doing so. Just read on.
Ever since I found out that I got knocked up, I immediately did my research on well let’s just say everything there is to know about babies and motherhood. One of the topics that caught my attention was how feeding bottles can literally affect a baby’s feeding habit and health. All the while, all that I knew about feeding bottles was that they’re used to feed babies… nothing more to it. (well I kinda also know that there are anti-colic bottles but I never did pay much attention to the subject)
Aight, so after finishing several books from cover to cover and hurting my eyes reading every parenting website I find useful, I came to the part where I had to decide on what kind of bottles to buy for my own little one.
AVENT

This one right here is one of my Avent bottles. Its nicest feature is its teat. It has a valve at the base of its teat that flexes to allow air back into the bottle so baby won’t get colic. Another thing that I like about Avent bottles compared to other anti-colic bottles is that it’s so easy to clean since it has a wide opening on top. It also only has a few parts so it’s easy to assemble when it’s feeding time and disassemble when it’s cleaning time. Downside? Hmmm… Well, Avent bottles are a wee bit pricey but hey, if it’s your baby’s health that’s on the line you’d rather think twice about scrimping.
DR. BROWN’S by Handi-Craft

Dr. Brown’s Natural Flow bottles are like the Avent bottles also anti-colic. The ones I have are made of glass but they also have bottles that are made of plastic. They’re sent to me from Canada… by my loving dad. Heehee…What’s really nice about its technology though is its venting system. I’m talking about that straw in the middle. That is called the vent reservoir. It is attached to a rubber vent insert that connects to the cap holding the bottle’s teat. The vent reservoir traps the air inside so only fluid flows toward the teat. Ergo, no tummy pains for baby. The biggest downside of these bottles though is that they have a lot of parts. Not to mention that they’re kinda difficult to clean because the venting system has several small holes that needs attention when cleaning since milk can get stuck in them. You really have to be patient and pay attention to the small details. Oh and they’re quite pricey too. I only saw this available here in the Philippines at Rustan’s. But again if it’s for your child’s welfare then I think it’s always best to settle for the best no matter what it costs.
THE FIRST YEARS by Learning Curve

This shall I say is my personal favorite since this bottle has a very unique system yet still it’s so convenient to use. First, of course it’s anti-colic. But what’s unique about it is its Breastflow System. They called it such because it is designed to mimic the same kind of action as breastfeeding. Coolness right? It has a two-part nipple. The outer part of the nipple is shaped like the breast so baby instinctively compresses it and suckles at the same time. It makes it effortless for baby to go back to the breast when it’s time for mommy to breastfeed. This is a very big help for moms who do mixed feeding just like me. Working moms and those who are always on the go will find this nipple system quite beneficial as well. But that’s not all that’s nice with these bottles. They have bonus features (just like in a DVD) too! Haha… Each bottle comes with a lid. You can use the lid for mixing the milk rather than using the teat and cap so as to avoid build up that may clog the teats. You can also use it for storing the milk in the fridge. The lid has a white strip in the middle where you can write the time you made the formula so you won’t ever again have to worry thinking if you can still feed baby with that or not. The strip has a smooth surface much like a white board so anything you write on it is erasable Also, each cap fits perfectly on the bottle’s bottom so it won’t get lost. These bottles are also pricey but not as much as Avent or Dr. Brown’s
FARLIN

There’s one more bottle that I want to talk about. It’s nothing like the previous ones that Idiscussed. This one is just an ordinary 2-ounce Farlin bottle. It doesn’t have any special features or fancy system to it but it’s quite special because it’s what my baby used during the time that I was rushed to the ER and he was left behind at the clinic with the nurses. I was at the ER for 8 hours and this bottle was the one that let’s just say became my baby’s lifeline the entire time that I was away. It is so special to me that I wouldn’t give it away for the more expensive ones.
So there you have it, I hope moms and moms-to-be will find this helpful. Oh and if you wanna know how many bottles I do use right now… Let’s see. Uhm, I’m using 4 Dr. Brown’s and 3 Breastflows. I’m not using the 2-ounce Farlin bottle anymore since my baby now drinks 4 ounces per feeding. The Avent bottles will have to wait since the ones that I have are for 3 month old babies already. Don’t think that I spent a lot on these though. In fact I didn’t spend a penny on them. All of my baby’s feeding bottles were either sent to me by my dad from Canada or given to me by my friends. They’re all the brands that I want though since my dad and my friends know about that research that I did. I kinda coyly told them that ‘just in case’ they’re planning to buy me gifts for my baby then I would rather they look for those brands. (wise eh??!)
