Iguanadons, grazed knees and cancer

Comment Published at 04:0004:0011 comments11 comments56 Visits56 VisitsReport

3 stories tonight

1- The funny: Charlotte and Lachlan were working together to get into trouble tonight when I was trying to serve up dinner.  I knew they were playing with an egg and I had told them to put it away before they broke it.  I was on the other side of the kitchen bench strapping Imogen into her high chair when I heard "IT IS an iguanadon!".  well, I knew straight away what had happened.  they had revealed the contents of the egg onto the kitchen floor and proclaimed the species found within! (with Lachlan being the dinosaur nut- it would have to be some palaeontological specimen)........Meanwhile I was trying not to laugh....you know, discipline and all that!

2- The painful: Its lucky I am relatively fit.  I went to pick up the kids from kindy today, lachlan ran outside with his friends and promptly stacked it in his excitement.  Well, being emotionally fragile at the moment, he wasn't the bravest, and usually I would say its not so bad, you'll be alright...(ie get over it) but he didn't want to walk- so then I had to push him in Imogens pusher, carry her with a pram full of backpacks and shopping, as well as Charlotte hanging onto the side of the pram.  that was hard bloody work.  An Imogen doesn't hip carry well (she doesn't hang on, she just hangs) and Lachlan weighs a ton.  I was stuffed when I got home. I wish I had the baby carrier in the pram.

3- The not funny at all:  Do you ever get the feeling that you were some place, at a certain time, for a very specific reason? i worked on the oncology ward on the weekend and saw my 2nd cousin there.  I realised that it was HER son in room 1 with the possible kidney tumor yet to be diagnosed.  By the end of the weekend I had seen several family members that I hadn't seen for about 3 years.  If only it was under better circumstances.  he was having a CT scan today to see the extent and plan treatment.  but they are thinking its a wilms cancer, and my 2nd aunt told me that they had been told it was about 1kg, wrapped around his entire kidney and they think he has had it for a long time, but no Drs would listen to their concerns!!!!!.....he is only 11 months old.  I am going to check in on them tomorrow in my lunch break if i am working on another ward.  hopefully the scans weren't all bad news.

Buggies drive me nuts I only use mine now when i go shopping on my own ( without the car) its just too much hard work its much easier for me to just carry chloe if she gets tired but she loves walking so independant that girl.

we walk to and from kindy, so the pram is essential.  I had the kindy bags, some shopping and Lachlan in it.  Lucky it didn't collapse.

1.  I do think kiddies are brilliant!

2. Yes!  I hear you, my walks with five were often feats of pure strength... and afterwards you were plain done out, prams need options for added seating.

3.  Good vibes being sent for the baby. I hope he will be O.K.. My heart goes out to them, your family, too tough to stand when it is a child that is in peril.

multi seated prams that have removable seats for how ever many kids need to be pushed at once..........you should patent that one!

Thanks for the good vibes.....they are going to need it.

Re: Iguanadons, grazed knees and cancer

What a afternoon you had, would love to have seen a video of your antics of getting the kids home, sorry sweet had a little giggle reading that bit....I bet you enjoy that bath you deserve  tonight.

Sad to hear the bews about your cousin's son, everything crossed this way that the scans come back with better news than they are expecting. Shame on some doctors for not listening to the concerns of parents....one so young shouldn't being going through this.

Love Janice xxxx

PS. Hope the discipining went well over the egg, hehe!

Re: Iguanadons, grazed knees and cancer

no bath.....had 7 or 8 loads of washing to fold!

I saw the CT scan today. The tumor takes up most of his tummy- its 18cm big.  It sounds like he has had it for months..  Fortunately there have been NO metastasis found and they are thinking they could surgically remove it......But the formal plan has not been announced yet.  Either way, he has a tough  time ahead, with pain and suffering.  but he seems like a tough little boy...its in the genes and his parents are coping really well so far.  I am just going to try to make myself available if they have any questions (since I work in the area)  and try to support without being intrusive.

no discipling with the egg in the end.  It was easier just to show some interest in their game ("WOW, is it really an Iguanadon?") and send them to the table for dinner...and remind them not to play with eggs again!

Thanks for letting my know the results Josie, good news about there being no metastasis but gee 18cm that is big for one so little.....what a rough time the poor little mite is going to have. I'm sure they will appreicate your input and support, I know I would.

Well was it a Iguanadon????? Come on tell me!

No bath last night shame, hope you get time tonight to have that relaxing bath.

Love Janice

Found another light you can add to your bathroom.
