I have two children - Jack 3 and Hollie 1. We live on a farm near a small town called Dunedoo, NSW Australia. Dunedoo has a population of 800 and it is a great place to live. Jack currently attends preschool one day a week and both attend family care one day whilst I do work for our business. That is about to change with our carer stopping at the end of this term. So Jack will go to preschool two days a week and Hollie will stay home with me.
Jack has just been diagnosed with Sensory Processing Disorder, being over responsive or sensory defensive. I am very lucky to have discovered an OT in Sydney who specialises in sensory issues. I am now currently seeking out advice and resources to educate myself so I can help Jack and my family. Jack is now undertaking sound therapy, a new sensory diet and brushing every two hours to start to desensitise his senses.
SPD is not something which is well known in Australia. I am going to have to educate his preschool, his family (grandparents) etc about this and so I am really looking for information about it. I have ordered a heap of books from Amazon as there is a heap of books and research coming out of America on it.
My husband and I are on a property where we breed cattle and crops/pastures. We love our life and have just had some decent rain for the first time in 5 years so we are on a high at the moment. Hopefully the rain will continue. It has stopped the last four autumns. |
