A Tale of Two Saturdays

Two weeks ago on Saturday, I had the opportunity to meet with an actual "stylist" who pulled clothing for me. Instead of watching celebrities on TV get dressed by people who actually know fashion, I was the one being pampered. "Do you want a water, Kari?" "Here are some candy bars, Kari." "Step over here so I can snap your photograph, Kari." Yes, the other shoppers in the store looked at me a little funny, "Why is she getting her photograph taken?" It was all part of an amazing experience the...

Still Running

I am still running, literally and figuratively, although I really need a nap. For fun I created a little running gear shout-out to some of the brands I've used in the past six months. Also on Spectrum of Reviews, I have a preview of one of the two photo holiday cards I will be sending out. In the event that you are a family member or friend who will receive a holiday card, you may receive the one in the post, or you may receive a different one. I was lucky enough that two excellent stationery...

A Night in the ER = 14 Stitches

Monday night Splig climbed on a chair, slipped, and fell off into his dresser. He may have hit the side of the dresser, but I saw a metal container nearby that may have originally been on the dresser and could have hurt him as well. The garbage truck just hauled away the metal container. And I've rearranged Splig's room so the chair is not next to the dresser. Of course that guarantees nothing, but it was a psychological necessity for me. The laceration was deep. Yes, we saw bone (and...

So, I lost National Blog Posting Month by not posting Saturday or Sunday. Sure, I thought about doing a couple back-dated posts, 'cause what if Eden selects me to win a million dollars? I'd sure hate to lose some awesome prize just because I was feeling too tired, too sick, and generally too toooooo to post over the weekend. But on the other hand, if I won a prize and knew that I had done so as a CHEATER? Well... then... karma would probably slap me, and I'd not feel so happy with myself. So...

Post-Thanksgiving Slump

Yeah, I ate some, but not a lot. Sure, I slept in, but it didn't feel like I did. Yes, I was productive, but cleaning a 5 year old's room is pretty much futile. And scrubbing toilets makes me cross. But look -- pretty sky! This, after a fabulously gorgeous day yesterday followed by unexpected showers this afternoon. Storm Clouds + Sunset = Nice. Plus, the trees in my backyard are pretty, too.

Turkey Trotted on the Trail

I ran a 5K trail run this morning. I felt as though I was running faster than usual, but the clock said otherwise. Meanwhile, my sportband said I had gone a much further distance, but I know it is lying. Still, I like what my sportband says I did. I will be interested to see what my "official" time is once that is posted, and yet I know it really doesn't matter. Much. What is terrific is that the family had fun. The kids did the "Little Turkeys" race and came away with medals. I got a medal...

Before Giving Thanks

This post is from from my other blog here

I woke up way too early today. But thankfully, that meant I had time to quickly mention a free coffee promotion over on A Spectrum of Reviews that otherwise would have gone to waste, since I would have awakened pretty late in the day for all those east-coast people who could have actually benefited from it. (Even so, it is late in the morning for them, especially as I've spent 90 minutes twiddling around.) Today is going to be tough. The day before Thanksgiving often is, unfortunately. Every...

Donation

I was really excited when I was finally old enough to donate blood. Unfortunately, my body wasn't so cooperative. I went into shock. I tried again the following year. And again. But it just wasn't working out. Thankfully, Husband doesn't have the same reaction I do, so he ends up donating whenever he can. But I've found other ways to be useful. And 'tis the season to be generous. I triggered a fraud alert on my credit card yesterday, and it was a donation that did so. And then today I was...

Beauty and Exclusion

This is a beautiful wall at the Catholic church where I attended a wedding on my birthday. I love candles. During the ceremony I wished I could have taken communion to celebrate the couple, just as I wish I could have taken communion in honor of a friend during his funeral. But, I know the "rules" now. I used to think that as long as I was confirmed (which I was in the Protestant church) I could take communion. (Anyone can take communion in the Protestant church, but I at least knew there...

The Ballad of the BBQ Sauce

Comment Published at 20:1720:170 comments0 comments2 Visits2 VisitsReport
This post is from from my other blog here

Okay, it isn't as much a ballad as a tale. And it isn't a long tale. Really, here's how it went down: Someone - seriously not me - stepped on a packet of McDonalds BBQ sauce, thus squirting it across the kitchen floor. How I didn't notice the BBQ sauce at the precise moment post-impact is beyond me - I usually have a radar for Super-Cruddy-Sticky-Mess. Well, except the kitchen floor is quite a mess with other things - like magnetic Obama pieces, popcorn kernels, and the whole situation of...
