Pancakes

Comment Published at 14:3114:314 comments4 comments27 Visits27 VisitsReport

Em & I are still a bit poorly today but we managed to get things done anyway. It was one of those days when I miss having family nearer so I could just sit out an illness - I thought that, pre-kids I would have taken the day off work today and sat in a comfy chair under a duvet with a warm drink, telly zapper and mobile phone in the knowledge that if I rested completely I'd be better quicker. Instead today Sophie decided not to nap and wouldnt let me go to sleep (tried feeding her in bed, got continually kicked in the tummy, but if I put my hand over my stomach she hurt my "spare" boob instead - grrrr)! I felt a little better when I forced myself to get into the kitchen to make pancakes. I did bacon with maple syrup for 1sts and lemon with sugar for seconds (I actually offered bananas with peanut butter and chocolate spread - Emma's new favourite mix, but all she wanted was bacon!). Seeing the maple syrup reminded me of just before Christmas when we went round to a friends house for a girlie evening with home-made waffles, and our host offered a range of toppings including maple syrup. We were all politely putting small amounts on when a Canadian lady sloshed on a large portion of it. I tried to tactfully explain it's a bit of a luxury here!

Re: Pancakes

Oh hope you are feeling better soon! I loved my pictures of my girls! So cute, tell Emma her new haircut looks ever so grown up! Looks cute on her. You are having a time there with everyone not being well for the past while. Bet they just need summer to get a good long healthy spell and all this will be far behind. Hope everyone can manage to be good before that though and you get some rest!  Darn Canadians taking all the syrup, have to rememer you Brits don't have it in your rivers like we do here!

Re: Pancakes

Hi Marg! Glad you liked the girls calling in on you! The bad news is that I had a bad night with Soph, the good news is that I somehow feel a bit better that yesterday! I think it's helped that I've been visiting friends most of the day, plus Soph napped for 2.5 hours today!

Ohh, I wish we had rivers of maple syrup here! What is it about your climate that they like so much? Wish we could have one on tap in the garden - yummy! I Suppose your need is greater than ours - we have gloomy wet winters (with weird days like today that feel like spring), you get buried in snow for 3 months and have to cheer yourselves up somehow LOL!

Re: Pancakes

I forgot to make pancakes!  I tried today - but no eggs!  R says lets make them without eggs - tried to explain it wouldn't work and he couldn't understand why!  Dh asked last night what we are giving up for lent - I replied that we had given everything up anyway as this is no spend month!  oh well!

Re: Pancakes

well, next time you have eggs in the house, you could have a late pancake day?

Perhaps you could DO something instead of give something up for lent (eg suggest DH gives you a lie in at the weekend - or does he do that already?). Perhaps if you get this job, you will be able to take up chocolate for lent?
