Visit over and nappy change for dolly

My inlaws once again were great and drove my parents over for a visit on Saturday (this is an all-day job as they live an hour from my parents, two hours from us and my parents live about two & a half hours from us) and they came back to take them home today. Mum's dementia is noticeably worse - she got constantly lost around our house (which has a similar layout to hers) and was very confused and in a world of her own. Today she sat in a chair and was bothered by the mess in my house (I had spent most of Saturday tidying so for us it was about as tidy as it could get LOL). So it's just as well they went home this afternoon. Dad enjoyed playing with the girls, so there was also lots of laughter. Life goes on...

While we were tidying up on Saturday, Emma helped for a bit then decided to play with Sophie instead. She got her "Annabelle" dolly out and switched her on, which was a novelty to Sophie, as Emma is not greatly into dollies. Sophie was really into Annabelle and another dolly who sings and then we heard an exclamation from Emma and then she tried to get my attention. I'm afraid I had my head down doing vacuuming and told her to see Daddy. Daddy then brought me dolly to show me. She was found on Sophie's changing mat, and Sophie had been wet wiping her bottom and had then found the nappy cream and had liberally creamed her belly button! I asked DH to photograph it, but he didnt get round to it :-(. "Little darlin'!" as Emma would say!

Thanks Pauline. Yes, seeing the weight lift off dad, albeit only for a few days, makes the effort worth it, and the girls love him. Emma listened as dad told her all about "long long ago" though she misinterpetted some of what he told her, as his description of his wind-up torch was later used by her to describe how long long ago all the lights had to be wound up for a "whole minute so they could work for a whole day"!

Oh Kathryn,so sorry your Mom is getting worse, must be so hard.  She probably was reacting to any change, not that your house was too messy, she could have thought it to be her place.   I am glad your Dad got a happy break!! That probably did wonders for him. Haaa, haaaa I do love your girls!!!

Re: Visit over and nappy change for dolly

Im afraid to say that she knew it was my house as she kept asking how I coped in such a mess, but I knew it was coming as she complains at her home how untidy and cluttered it is and its neither - dad has put away everything he sensibly can and he & I were joking that unless the walls were painted white, the floor had a white carpet on it, and the only thing in the room was one plain armchair (no fussy patterns) in white or black no doubt, she would still find it cluttered! So what chance did I stand? Yes, dad find the visits rejuvenating. Though he did seem more tired than usual, which is worrying, but then it was hot which is sapping, and he's 74 now, so he's allowed to be tired!

How sweet!  Sorry about your mum though - it must be very hard.  Don't you hate it when you think the house is clean and tidy and it still doesn't pass inspection - happens to me all the time!

Re: Visit over and nappy change for dolly

Im still smarting over hte memory (pre kids) of an earlier visit where I spent the whole of mum's drive to us (4+ hours at her speed) cleaning EVERYTHING and she came in and said (with no irony) "what a shame you are too busy to do any cleaning"! Aaargh! She has always considered me messy and unfortunately she will probably never forget that about me, just as she considers me to be a bad driver, and Im not! (She remembers how I drove stgraight after I passed my test - it was too aggressive for her tastes so she wouldnt let me borrow her car, and that is the way the impression has remained, since 1990!)
