With her arm fresh out of plaster for a whole three days...it was time to go to the hospital AGAIN! We had been on holidays for 3 days ( she had the plaster off the day we flew out) and was playing with her cousin - I was still in bed and thought she was riding the little trike and drited back to sleep - it was after all 5.15 in the morning- however her cousin decided to start zooming her around the verandah on it at warp speed and when there was a reverbrating thunk, I raced outside in time to catch the first scream. MMMHHHMM her head had connected with the concrete at 5.45a.m. I whacked a pack of frozen vegies on the rapidly swelling lump and cuddled her. After 20 minutes when she had stopped sobbing, I felt her head. There was a fine saudage sized lump, but my stomach bottomed out when I felt a largish hollow spot. A dent for lack of other description. Into the car and off to the hospital ( as we were on holiday, it was only an hours drive away!) As soon as I got there and explained what happened, they felt her head and we were whisked in straight away they apparently thought the same as I...a depressed fracture, however, after a CT scan, all was pronounced OK...just a bit of concussion.THe lump finally went away as did the mystery dent! I have this sneaking suspicion that I will get to know a number of hospitals quite well in the next few years! |

Finally, after years of pain, I think it may be gone! Early days yet , but 2 1/2 weeks and nothing but surgery pain to cope with! Amazing! I am now minus an ovary as the dermoid cyst had eaten it away ( I guess as it was the size of a decent orange it was sort of a given !) Although until the day before surgery I thought the cyst was outside the ovary ...... apparently not. It had leaked and spilled and caused adhesions to various organs, hence the pain. After being very nervous and organising hubby and cherub, I booked into a hotel so I could make it to the hospital at 7.30 a.m. Hubby didn't make it so I was on my own...very nervous!!!! But all went well and I was discharged after 2 days. 5 days later i had all the stitches out - They did it by laproscope but had to make the incisions larger to remove the bits! I had 2 days rest at home and then had to be up and about as hubby kept getting called out- the cherub needed entertaining and lots of Mum's attention as she had been deprived! Pain was fairly bad for a few days, I was in tears of agony the first day I had to be up, entertain the cherub, feed the cherub, bath her and get her to bed - but 2 weeks later, all is starting to look up! Mind you...apparently the cherub went to pre-school while I was in hospital and told everyone that once mum's tummy was fixed, she was getting a baby brother or sister......... I had several discrete enquiries as to whether I had gone for IVF ....hmmmm! Not quite but it may not be far off the mark as only time will tell! I guess at the age of 39 and only 1 ovary...odds are slightly reduced!!! Not having huge amounts of pain for at least 2 weeks every month is going to be a huge bonus! It was all pervasive...sitting down hurt, going to the loo hurt, the s.. thing was out of the question!!! Am looking forward to a huge lifestyle improvement! |

I can't believe it has been so long since I blogged! Where do I start! I finished the history book I was writing. The cherub has started pre-school 4 mornings a week. I have been working from home doing some curriculum writing and my contracting business has taken off so much I have had to take on employees! Never a dull moment! I have also finally had some answers to the pain I have had since having the cherub. I am in for surgery in a few days to remove the VERY large dermoid cyst and part each of my ovaries it has attached to. The Doc is also fairly certain that I have endometriosis and or adhesions that wil need to be removed. I am absolutely petrified, but if I can be in pain a bit less, I will be very happy! |

What a month! I have been so busy, I can't even begin to catch my brreath! i had a visit from my sister and 2 of her children ( she left hubby at home with bub!) It was so lovely catching up with her and my neice and nephew! She also had a bit of a break and enjoyed some R&R! Hubby went hunting, fishing and mate bonding for a week,I had his 4 mates staying a night either side. His Mum came to visit for a few days and as she is lovely it was nice! I picked up another friend from Darwin today and we had the local schools 50th anniversary celebrationthis evening ! As I taught there for 6 years I have a good connection! I finally finished writing the 50 year history of the school and it should be sent to the publishers soon! I have also been for meetings with the ed dept re: curriculum writing from home! The cherub is SO EXCITED as she starts pre-school next term! I am juggling fairly well as I work 35 hours a week at the moment and have taken on another 10 hrs with the Ed Dept! I think I may have to try and offlload something soon! I do not have the benefit of childcare of any description and am starting to feel the pinch at times! I have also started doing some swimming teaching..... I need to learn to say NO!!!!! However the cherub seems to enjoy the time that I work as it is out of the house, she gets to chat to lots of people and help mummy! I sometimes think that it isn;t fair on her , but she seems to be happy as long as she knows what we are doing and that she can help me! I have also had a fair amount of pain due to the cyst that is there. It seems to be pressing on nerves and every time I ovulate I am in so much pain, I have trouble even breathing! The doc is very concerned and tried to get me seen to sooner by the specialist, but no luck! unfortunately, I can't take anything stronger than panadol without being out for the count and I can't afford to be that with the cherub and I being home by ourselves most of the time! I love the pressie giving spree, it has meant i have caught up with lots of friends! Love it! |

I am breathing a big sigh of relief today! I feel like a great weight has lifted! It turns out the doc's think I have a large dermoid cyst that has attached itself to both of my ovaries. It will have to come out but as I have been very worried about the worst scenario, the news is GREAT! PHEW!!!! No more bad nightmares I hope! |

My gosh, I can't believe it has been so long since I blogged! I have been really busy with more work than I can poke a stick at! Hubby has been at home for the last 6 weeks as he trashed his knee playing rugby! He had an arthroscopy and informed him he really needs a reconstruction...but if he does that he is on light duties for 6 months, which would lead to us having to move...he doesn't want that just yet so is putting it off! I have had an offer of work from my old employer working from home doing curriculum support work...contemplating it! I think it would be good but I am sure my brain will be in pain for the first while as it hasn't really had to function too hard for the past 4 years! ( the body has and would probably enjoy a change of pace!) I have had a bit of a scare..to cut a long story short, on ovary ultrasound looks pretty nasty so am off for a barrage of tests tomorrow! wish me well, I am scared brainless and have had horrible nightmares the last 2 nights! Promise to be more up to date on my blog! Cheers for now! |

It's nice having an extra day up the sleeve! Went to the dawn service yesterday,..amazing since it's such a small town..there were well over 2000 people in attendance! ( town population 500!) I always get a shiver up my spine in thankfulness to those that fought to make us what we are today and a sadness to think that so many died in places so far away when at times it was fruitless! My own grandpa survived WW1 and WW2 and always marched, but with sadness for the many friends and colleauges that he lost rather than with pride.......always makes me think!

My cherub finally managed to swim properly yesterday!!!!!!! Yahooo!!!! She can now swim across the pool! I am so excited!!!! The final bit fell into place when she worked out how to get her head out of the water to take a BREATH while swimming! I have been continuing trying to teach her this summer but all she wants to do is play and do flips and swim under the water. No amount of trying from me ( as she didn't want to listen to MUM!) worked. We were at a friends place and she kept swimming from place to place under the water and the other kids had no floaties. She wanted to take hers OFF! So our friend said when you can lift your head out to take a breath, then you can take them off!! She did it the little toad! No floaties and swimming like a fish coming up for breath yay!!! I thought I must have lost my touch as an instructor as I taught swimming for years at schools! I guess it is different when you are Mum! Listening is optional! LOL! |

Finally got the last stitches out and the Doc gave it the all clear...results came back all clear a fibroedemea ( sp?) but nothing nasty! He said that was the good news, but the bad news is that I can expect to get more of them and given family history, he would recommend they be removed just to be on the safe side! I told him thanks....I think! It is SOOO good to be able to move without the stitches pulling!!! Vacuumed and mopped the house and cleaned the laundry/ shed and downstairs fridge and did 4 loads of washing...no pain, no bleeding!!! Yahooo! Never thought I'd be so pleased to be able to clean my house! Have been muddling through work very gingerly. I was feeling very much mended when I did gardening for someone for 3 1/2 hours nearly a week ago....not so mended apparently! Then to top it all off...I got attacked by paper wasps! Youch!!! I haven't run so fast for ages! The whole nest I'd accidently knocked down was determined to get me! Apparently, it was quite amusing seeing me fly through the yard flapping my hat and yelling OW! OW! OW!!! HMMMMMMM! |

Feeling better now! Thank goodness!!!! Despite my funk we had a busy week! I went to town and had a day out with some of my friends and their kids as it's school holidays! Their children are all a lot older than my cherub ( I taught all of their kids and most are in high school!) We went to a water park for a few hours and had a picnic lunch! One of the older girls took my cherub down the huge water slide ( the cherub wasn't worried at all but I held my breath as they left the top until they surfaced from the water at the bottom!) She loved it and wanted to do it again...and again..and again...! We then booked into where we were staying ...a kind of bush retreat, Everyone relaxed for an hour or so, then we all headed to the pool for more water fun! After that we pooled all the chairs tables and BBQ's in the central area and cooked up a storm, I then took the cherub off to put her to bed ( she should have passed out immediately due to exhaustion.... no such luck!!!! ) We both eventually slept like logs! We were up bright and early and the cherub made friends with the peacocks ...fed them all her toast! We then all headed off to the Wildlife Park for an early start! Great fun. We had lunch there and then went to hubby's cousins place to drop in a pressie as she had her 4th beautiful bub last week. He is gorgeous! She is very proud of herself as this is the first time she has been able to breastfeed. How quickly you forget how tiny they are ( he wasn't really as he was 8 lb 8 oz!) We then headed back home, the cherub was so EXHAUSTED that she just cried for half an hour on the way back. I nixed the idea of stopping to get groceries...just not worth the pain! As I pulled into our street an hour and a bit later, I got a reminder call re a BBQ that night......I still had to work- as I had played hookey the night before I had heaps to do! So after 2 hours working we raced off to the BBQ. Stayed a sort while then headed home. The poor cherub was beyond exhausted and slept VERY well! So did I! We haven't seen hubby since Monday except for an hour today!! Might see him tomorrow! |
