I have a friend who was born a female and is now a male. There is no way he would consider having a baby as he identifies as a male even if he could like this situation. He has never felt female so why would this guy/girl in the US feel different? Now thats coming from someone who can understand completely and still disagrees. 

try answering a very smart 5 year old boys questions on the topic who happened to see a snipit of the story on daytime television. i confused myself trying. not sure how he is faring on the whole topic! ::S i is so switching back to ABC tv!!

Hmm, I am not sure what I think of this...will have to think on it for a while...certainly seems odd though.

Nothing is black and white and I'm of the belief that we shouldn't generalise or put people into box and label them.

They obviously want this more than anything due to the fact that no-one knew about his previous gender and now it's known around the world....he now has to carry the baby and deal with looks, comments, and the fact that people don't approve, but he obviously thinks that having this baby is more important.....and to me that speaks volumes. We as a society can only hope that the people around their community accept the child and let the child grow up only knowing love and acceptance and not the judgment of others.

Hmmm yea a little different and hard to get my head around.So if he had to regulate ovulation,and does not have a vagina how did he have periods.Umm to know when he/she was fertile.Or have i got myself really confused trying to work it out?.I also find it interesting if she is a he why wouldnt you just marry a real man,rather then somebody that is transgender.I am wondering whether they met before or after sex change.I believe if she wanted to become a man she should in the tru sense ,men just dont have babies.Ok anyway now i am really confused found this also http://www.abcnews.go.com/Health/story?id=4528852&page=1  i hope i can put this here as i dont understand how you do the click here bit.

i have a transgender friend who provided the "wrigglies" for her babies, shes now mum to both her kids. as hard as i saw it being from the outside once i was in their home and around their children i realised its just a family like any other... the kids know where they came from and they are fine with it. i dont really see what the difference would be?

I don't think it's wrong. Just different. IVF was a bad thing "test tube babies" were something to be ashamed of. Now look it's accepted just as freely as normal conception.

Sure the situation is a little weird. It brings up a lot of questions and worries, but so did more medical procedures when they first began.

Good luck to them. I hope the baby arrives healthy and they are all happy :)

The male still has his womb and ovaries BUT NO breast and NO vagina . .  . . I understand the need to have children but I firmly believe that we need to draw a line somewhere . . .  Personally I think men having babies is wrong, regardless . . . All jokes aside I think that IVF needs to draw a line in the sand. . .

I realise that most will not agree with me BUT I remind you that I too had trouble having my children and needed IVF so I do understand the point of view from a person having difficulties conceiving.

I have nothing against transgenders or other of the like, I have a very good friend who is a girl now, but used to be male. She is the sweetest person.

I read in the newspaper that he hasn't had a full sex change and still has a vagina.Work that out.Imagine the poor little mites taunting it will recieve as it grows up.And what about the emotional wellbeing of that child.I personally think its a bit sick and macabre.If a man wants to be a woman and have a sex change-fair enough but get yor bits done as well.It's just not ethically right.

MORE INFO: A previous insemination ended in a life-threatening ectopic pregnancy with triplets, requiring surgery, resulting in the loss of all his embryos and his right fallopian tube.   He is having a girl and they also to plan to say he is the dad and his wife is the mum.

I'm going to take the lighter side on this.  Les has always said that if he could carry a baby, he would, as he is sick of my complaining about this and that.  Now this poor guy/lady is really going to see what it is like for us other ladies! 

I don't actually see a problem with this as he still has all his female bits inside, and is probably thanking his lucky stars that he didn't have them removed.  Got to wonder if they aren't the should have been mothers eggs and a donors sperm, if that's the case, it is still her baby, and not his (gosh, this is getting confusing!).

I remember seeing the movie Junior starting Arnold Swarzzenager (shoot me for the wrong spelling!) and Dani DeVito and thinking if only!  Men really have no idea what us women go through and I for one will be the first one to laugh when they start complaining about the chronic back ache as they just have no idea.  Oh, and the movements of bubs against the bladder that makes you bolt like lightening to the nearest toilet, even barging past your neighbours to use theirs! lol.

Technically, even a 'male' could carry a baby in the abdominal cavity.  Something about a void that has the potential to act as a uterus.  It has never been successful yet, but I can see the potential benefits of this research.  Couples where the mother couldn't carry or conceive and aren't elligible for surrogacy because of laws etc can then reverse the role and have their hubby/partner do it instead.  I just want to know who gets to claim the maternity allowance!

I see your side too, but the past has taught us that things that are so every day these days were a big deal way back when they first began, like IVF.  i saw a documentary about the history of IVF and couldn't believe that there was sooo much controversy about it.  Same with abortions.  We learn to trust in the medical profession and other authorites and before we know it, the arguements are forgotten and we are onto our next scandal.

I too heard about this and im still wondering how he/she got pregnant in the first place?? was it done professionaly like ivf or something because his wife cant have children??

In a way a dont see a problem with it, his just bringing a new life into the world but then again its very sickening and i dont know how they would tell there child and if they didnt thats not very fair either!!

If he still has his ovaries then im sure he would still have breasts wouldnt he?? so im sure milk would produce,but then again if not breast feeding isnt everything,and i dont think its that bad to have to have a c-section, i can only think of one more hole and i dont think it would be possible ( ).( )  <<<< i cant really make it out hahaha.

i seen this on news this afternoon its brings up one or two questions, apparently his doctor has confirmed the preg bt surely it was planned with no vagina how did he concieve? maybe i dont wanna know its just odd its like hes gone through fertility and had baby inplanted but is that safe if he mc were wld it go? women struggle to have children all over the world and are turned away after a while does the medical boards support this? then some reporters visited his naighboures and didnt have a clue even tho they had seen him recently my first reaction is this is a hoax but then apparently he isnt the first man to carry a baby its been successful in past so why not if its safe?

are you confused now? i am...i guess we need to know more about it before we can judge it and that the prob isnt it so far all i have seen is the news reporteres speculating....
