Sad Holidays

Comment Published at 12:5912:597 comments7 comments20 Visits20 VisitsReport

I've been gone a while.  My dad has been very ill and passed away on Oct. 18.  One month is quickly approaching and I still haven't quite accepted his death.  I also haven't really had time to mourn.  I have been trying to keep my mother from losing it and to maintain somewhat of a normal life at home. It's been a tough month.  The holidays are not going to be pleasant I'm afraid.  As much as we want them to be, I think my mother's sadness will be hard to ignore.  They were married for 41 years.  My mother has never really had to be alone.  I really feel for her.

I miss my dad.

Re: Sad Holidays

I am sorry for your loss.  How are the kids dealing with it?

Last year (when E was 4) we lost my brother.  It was hard, but by working together we have all made it through.  If you want to Minti Mail me you are more than welcome.  Over time it gets easier in that the sense of loss changes and somehow life continues.

Much love and hugs

Re: Sad Holidays

Madeline had a pretty hard time the night we told her, but she has been okay ever since.  I'm waiting for the day that the realization hits her though that grandad won't be around.

I think she was already slightly prepared.  She told her teacher the day before my dad died that she thought her grandad was fixing to die.  We had never told her that my dad was going to die.  We had just been telling her that he was sick.  I think she is one of those special children that has a sixth sense or something.

Kace is just too young to really know what happened, but does ask where his grandad is every so often.

Re: Sad Holidays

You have my sympathy and `i know how sad you will be feeling for some time as I am sure you will be thinking of your dear mum at this time too. Of course you miss your dad but try to dwell on the happy memories you have had with him and remember them.

Praying and thinking of you at this sad time

Love Pauline

My condolences to your family.  Maybe you need to let it out and mourn properly. Is there anyone you can lean on?

Re: Sad Holidays

Yes,  my husband and sister.  I just haven't had the opportunity to mourn.  I don't want to upset my children.
