A Nasty Midwife

Comment Published at 01:2801:282 comments2 comments24 Visits24 VisitsReport

OK so last night my contractions started at 6pm 15mins apart for 2-3 mins long, then 8pm 8mins apart for 1-1 1/2 mins long and finally 12am 4mins apart and 1min long. So we made our way (30min drive) to the hospital where i SHOULD be having my baby. This was after i went to the toilet for a pee and you know that feeling of relief from unloading that pressure well i had that but then clear fluid was still coming so naturally i thought my waters must have broken. So anyway we made our way to the hospital and everything was fine. Had the heart beat and contraction machine thingy put round my belly. Contractions now being at about 3 mins apart and 1min long and at 3am-3.30am for all this i was feeling pretty good for having no sleep and being in the amount of pain i was in. Then the midwife says you need to walk some just to help bring her head down a bit further and at 6am we will check you over again. So i spent 2 hours pacing the hospital corridors with my sister in law and 10min breaks here and there. 6am arrives and the midwife does a internal and tells me that my cervix is still at the back, I'm not dilated at all and more or less said i was lying about the pain i was having and sent me home. After an hours sleep at home i went down to my attending doctor and talked to her she did another internal to see if what the midwife had said was true turns out my cervix is in place I'm 2cm dilated and every thing's happening just very slowly so she gave me cervix a stretch (which really hurt!!!) and said if baby isn't here by Sunday night their inducing me at 5pm Sunday 11th may. As happy as i am to know I'll have my baby out by Monday at the same time this stuff with the Midwife concerns me. She made me feel like i was a lire and whiles leaving said to me "when you REALLY think you're in labour then you come in". I mean if i didn't think i was in labour i wouldn't have gone in in the first place. And after 12-13hours of contractions you know kinda seems like labour. Then today i found out that this particular midwife has a problem with unmarried women having babies. I have a 19month old daughter to my FIANCE and this baby with him as well, and yet she still discriminates and makes me to feel bad and in the wrong. I still can't believe it. If I'm not being judged because of my age I'm now being discriminated against because I'm not married.

Re: A Nasty Midwife

What you have described sounds like a very bad case of pre labour, this can last for a few weeks!!!!! Arrrgggghhhh! lol.

I would say you will have your bubs very soon, if you aren't already on the way to the hospital again!

I would report that midwife as they are not allowed to treat you differently because of marital status.

I had to be induced with my 3rd child, and the midwife I had wouldn't listen to me when I kept saying it was moving quickly.  I think she filed for retirement after that because I was right!  10 mins later, there was my daughter!  Sometimes the professionals think they know it all and don't listen to the woman who is actually going through it at the time.  With my 4th, I basically delivered her on my own, telling the midwife when things were happening, and she was a champ!  Stayed by me the whole time and told me it was my body and that I had done it all before and knew when I needed to push etc.  Let's hope you get a midwife like that next time.

Hope it all goes well for you!  Oh, and keeping walking as much as you can in labour, it helps to bring bubs head down quicker, expands the pelvis (like a warm up) and things are over much quicker.

Yeah, On top of this I have been into hospital 2 other occasions with pre labour and Today is my Due date. To all my mates that have had considerably more kids then me even they thought this was the real deal. I just couldn't believe the way she handled everything.
