Some people do not think before they write or say something. I just read an article where a person said that giving formula was harmful to my baby. I have written an article on this already but I feel I have to say it again. BREAST IS NOT ALWAYS BEST.
If you can breast feed then great I did for eighteen months with my eldest and I enjoyed every minute of it. My second Weened herself off the breast and didn't eat anything for three days. Nothing we tried with her worked so in the end we gave her ( doctors orders ) half cows milk half water. My son was not getting a good enough quality milk from me. He was always hungary and so unhappy until I gave him formula.
A very good friend of mine had severe gestational diabeties. She had to inject herself in the stomach with insulin and move to canberra to be near a hospital that could deliver her son safely. Because of her diabeties her son was put into intensive care and she couldn't hold him for over an hour after he was born. When she was able to hold him she did try to breastfeed him. She was pushed and pushed to.
This woman is a first time mum who had a bad pregnancy and she had to worry about her babies life plus on top of that she was being forced to do something that her baby just couldn't do. The nurses gave her son formula in the end and she layed awake with feelings of guilt because she didn't feel like a good mother.
This continued after she went home with people telling her she was a bad mother because she didn't breast feed her son. Both myself and her health nurse gave her information about formula feeding a baby and no where in that information does it say that formula is bad for your baby.
Formula is made with all the nutrients and vitamins that your baby needs and after all people said to her and her fall into PND because of all of it her son and her have the closest bond I have ever seen and her son is completely healthy now.
I just wish people would get there facts straight before they tell a woman she is a bad mother for not breastfeeding. |
